I remember a few of you guys lucky and intelligent to have DSG ( :lipsrsealed: ) had some teething problems with the box. One of the issues was the kangeroo jump effect when moving off and at very low speed < 10mph. The problem has got worse on mine so its going into the dealers on Monday.
The Master Tech who looked at it a week ago when I booked it in said he had seen this issue before and it required a software update - but wanted to keep it for 2 days  The thing is I am sure some of you with a similar problem had some of the DSG ancillary mechanicals replaced so I am wondering whether it really is just a software issue. Also, the problem seems to get worse the longer the car has been driven (i.e. when it is warmed up). In warmer weather it is more noticeable - or that might just be me imagining things. Also, it seems to be more pronounced when moving off on an uphill gradient. I suppose I'll know if the Tech is right (or talking out of his backside) after I collect the car on Wednesday/Thursday. I'm going to make sure its got 30 miles of fuel left in the tank so they don't cane the poor thing while its in their hands

I have never had this on my ED30 DSG fortunately but a MK2 TT S-tronic I had on hire earlier this early had this undocumented "feature" and it made it horrible to drive in slow traffic.
As I only had it on hire for just over a week I didn't worry about it and unsurprisingly Hertz weren't bothered either when I return it
Hope you get it all sorted without any grief.

didnt phil have this problem ?, or at least a problem with the DSG

When I had my AUDI A3 TDI DSG it had a problem with uneven idle, stalling  and a kangaroo effect (almost like a learner driver does in a manual before they've gained control of the clutch) at low speed. It turned out to be a faulty controller unit for the DSG and was replaced under warranty. When I searched on't internet I found others who had similar issues, but not always stalling. Maybe this is where the fault lies with yours Illyun?

Thanks for the quick replies guys... I suspect it might be that Hurdy which is why I wanted confirmation. It will give me something to suggest when I drop off the car. Can we hold a group prayer session that my car comes back unscratched and with no extras like a dent  I reckon it will need a miracle to come back from the stealers unscathed

I've taken mines in twice for this ! it happens worse in reverse, almost like a chugging , and the dealers saying there is nothing wrong with it, but they have made it worse.
What is the actual problem, just software or hardware ?
They are going to get it on Monday

ive not had the kangeroo effect, but the one thing ive complained off since havin Phylis, compared to the other 2 GTi's, is that it wants to do
4-5 mph just by releasing the foot brake!. The other GTi's were never as fierce.

Mine's exactly the same - it happens in reverse too...

I want a new DSG box ! im sure the tech rag our cars !!!
I hope it is hardware i want a new box !!!

I have the same issue,...sub 10mph after a long drive, the car has this horrible kangeroo effect, it doesn't happen in manual mode or sport mode, only in drive and reverse. I have had my car in loads of times and my local dealer have taken tons of readings and measurements, VW Germany saying nothing wrong, live with it!!!
I would be very interested in what your dealer says,...please let us know.
Quick prayer for your car!!
-
this only happens to me when i place it from neutral to drive and accelerate to quickly before the gear has engaged, its probably not the same thing but try just waiting a second after engaging drive. :undecided:
Just a thought

Not the same thing - I get a shunt from the transmission if I slam the accelerator too fast. This DSG problem is something else

Can't believe you've been so patient. All I can say is if it doesn't get sorted after a couple of visits, I will demand the box be changed.

You bet,.....to be honest, I find it better in manual in slow traffic and leave it in 1st while crawling through traffic, I find the control is better than it is with full auto, less need to use the brake,...I have had so many readings taken on the box, blocks, etc etc and all are within the necessary limits so they won't touch the box or change any software,....
Please let me know how things go mate, as if your dealer finds a resolve, I'll get some details from you and forward it to my local dealer to get mine sorted!!!

Mechatronic vallve block faulty, its solenoid controlling first and reverse gear faulty, had mine replaced but took about a month to get VW to own up to it. Gets worse the longer you drive the car especially after long run on motorway, pulll up on slip road car kangaroos away from standing start. Also when in traffic and g box gets hot first and reverse gears. the reverse problem was the worse as nearly wiped out the back of the car when parking. This problem is known to VW but at £1200 a pop they wont replace it uless you kick up a fuss.

Thats what I think it is... I have heard that before. Well there's 2 years warranty left on my car so VW aren't going anywhere with this one

I had a problem with the mechatronics module on the dsg 'box. Whenever i put it in tiptronic (paddle) mode, there was no transmission (pressing the accelerator would only rev the engine without drive to the wheels). Switched the car off, then on again - this would fix the transmission, but the airbad, power steering and traction control warning lights were continuously on. Took it into the dealers and they replaced the mechatronics module, and haven't had the problem since
By the way, praying does help as the car came back unscathed and couple of miles extra on the clock (mind you, it does help if you have about 2 litres of fuel in the tank before you give the car ) Hope your car gets fixed soon and hope they don't give you a fox as a replacement car

right just to add a few points there are a number of dsg ecu gearbox updates regarding this issue, also vw look at every dsg fault as a fresh fault they dont look at it as a common problem so the liklyhood of you getting a new dsg box is slim to none. you are right in saying they have had issues with the mech units but like i just said its a 2 grand bill to vw so they need to make sure it is going to cure your car before they fit it a new one, costly guess you would agree. Dsg boxes are not made in the same factory as the cars in germany if you have a faulty dsg mech unit they will then make you one to order on a one for one basis (dont have them on the shelf like a oil filter) just thought that might help as a few people are complaing about going back to the dealer a couple of time and saying that they want new boxes its just the way it is or you could just leave your car there for a week why they do all there checks etc. one last thing tech dont rag the cars you brought a gti for a reason to drive it hard so enjoy it.
-
Thankfully I've never noticed this at all. Phew, err yet  :undecided:
Only issues I have noticed on DSG were from a standing start at traffic lights, there was an occasional very quick uptake in power, almost like a jolt...however there was no pulling off of power after that, so I could not describe it as kangaroo...and taught my wife to drive so I know all about the effect
I have however noticed on odd occasions, when the weather up here allows to drive with the drivers window down, a kind of metallic clunk...well clunk would be too strong a word...more a slap/clink of metal, like plates coming together, only occasionally happens and I cannot really replicate it. Although, perhaps if I have been driving hard and then come to a quick slow down for traffic lights. Hope its not the start of anything expensive....cos I am now unwarrantied

I'm not expecting a new box from the outset but some of the stories on this thread where owners have gone repeatedly and been fobbed off is not acceptable. If they manage to fix it with a software update then thats fine, but I won't accept any nonsense like 'it is normal sir' etc... Although saying that, the Master Tech has already said it is a problem so I don't think my local stealer will go down that route... they are better than most.

All you need guys is a little gizmo that has R,1,2,3,4,5,6 that is placed in between the handbrake and the ashtray, I am sure you will have no problems then :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:

Illyun who is your dealer ?
I just want the problem fixed, next time i go in im not being fobbed off, as it wasn't there when i had the car and its only come in the last 3000 miles. definitely not right :(
I guess i will tell them these problems / cures people have brought up and leave the car for a week :(
Also how many of you guys have had the steering rack replaced ? i've had it done once already less than a 1000 miles ago and its whining/grinding again ! :(

Sorry Ed30, I didn't see your last post. My dealer is Wolsey of Ipswich. I gave the car in on Monday and rang them today. They said that they had ordered a new mechantronics unit from VW Germany (surprise surprise... the software update obviously didn't work then   ) and they would fit it next week. Your dealer should have done the same in my opinion given that their 'fixes' haven't worked. They sound like a bunch of clueless monkeys to me.

Hi All,
Just registered so this is my first post. I picked up on this DSG issue and I wanted to let everyone know that I had a new Mechatronic module fitted this week, and the problem, exactly as described, now seems to have been solved. They knew exactly what it was but did some extra diagnostic checks just to confirm, because of the cost of the repair. (Their story not mine).
Mine actually rolled backwards on slight inclines and jerked dramatically when pulling away. It was so bad that my wife refused to drive it - woooohoooo! If they try to tell you it is OK, demonstrate by stopping on a slope.
I am reasonably confident, because the improvement is dramatic, although I have only driven it about 10 miles.
I will update with any news.
-
I have had my Ed30 back since yesterday and the mechatronic module has been replaced. It now drives like a dream. No kangeroo jumps, I still have to get used to it as I keep expecting the car to jump forward when I move off and it doesn't

Great result again Illyun
Now get it tuned

I'm absolutley gagging to get it remapped etc... but want to do it properly -i.e. want to have the suspension and brakes done at the same time. Plus I'm waiting on a job in Qatar - might have to go this year - so am holding off until then.

Quick update on my DSG. Mechatronic module was replaced about 2 weeks ago, and I can confirm this solved the problem. As with Illyun I spent the first week expecting a "stutter" at the lights, or rolling back on slopes, or worse reversing into a parking space, but so far it has been a delight. I think I can say with some confidence "Problem Solved"!
