hey guys you may remember my last thread (the one where i crashed my beloved golf) well since that day (14th feb) i've been hunting for a new Golf but to no avail....
I'm looking for one that was basically the same as my old one, or one with the mods i had in mind. The search is not going well at all and i havent been able to find a decent example for my budget which is 4-5k. I'm looking for a 2000-1, 3door, turbo with the proper recaro interior. I have seen one that has caught my eye but am not sure. I rang the seller and he seemed honest enough (admitted to few scrathes and wear and tear), told him the price was very high and that it would have to come down, but price aside what do you guys think. I need honesty hear so let rip with what ever you think.
As im not sure its a great idea to buy a golf that has already been chipped but then again my old one was chipped and that was a nice example, and alot of you guys on here have had it done and you all take care of your golf's, am i stereotyping :laugh:
Anyway let me know what you think of the link below (dont consider the price) or if you know of a 2000-1 (preferably AUM) 3dr golf for sale.
I miss having a GTI and need to get involved with the forum again!

Yeah i know what you mean about a modded car - im the same wouldnt buy one TBH BUT that car looks like she has been VERY well looked after (oil change every 5000 that beats my 6000 lol :grin:)
I would say go and have a look meet the seller and make you mind up from there. You can tell a lot by meeting the seller IMO and if its been really looked after by general things like the sound of the engine - any unusual noises and condition of the paint etc etc.
Loving the wheels on that car BTW :smiley:
Plus as you used to own a golf 1.8T you know all the little things to look out for :laugh:
Just haggle with the price :wink:

yeah its a nice looking motor, but all depends on what kind of person the owner is. I swear it wasnt as hard as this to find a decent golf before, but i guess last time i didnt have a benchmark to judge everything else too, that and this forum has made me so critical of all Golfs that are not perfect or modded in a nice subtle way! i'm also quite a noob when it come to suspension, are koni a decent make and what type should i be hoping they are?

so what sort of price would you put the one in the link at then?i was thinking around 4200-4500

It's done over 100k, for that I'd say about 3.5-4k really.
My personal opinion has always been that mod's add no financial value onto a car :)

Looks a very nice example and id say it's worth its money if everyting is ok, you only get what you pay for and if the seller is willing to drop the price alot then there must be a reason why, whats my opinion anyway
As for the mileage i wouldnt worry about it been over 100k if it's bean looked after it will have another 100k in it

as said 100k doesnt matter if well looked after thats all that matters, id knocked him down a bit IMO.
its been in a family for 6 years so thats good even tho its modded i cant see it being a problem just have a look and no doubt u might just fall in love again!!!! :laugh: :laugh:

offer him £40 and tell him he's an idiot if he thinks thats the full Anniversary bodykit; the spoiler has a cut out and the rear valence has a twin exit exhaust!!

just annoys me that people don't take the time to advertise their cars correctly; 5 minutes on the net would tell them what's actually fitted!!

you guys are saying what im thinking, we'll see today what this car is actually like, as from my experiance photos hide a multitude of sins (they only show you the nice bits). I was thinking that about the rear valance is it from the 4motion v6? mileage doesnt put me off, as i bought my last one withe 100 something on the clock and she was a gem *sigh

Yep v6 4motion, needed to fit the rear twin exhaust.

It also already has colour coded rear vw badge - looks good in silver :smiley:

Well went to look at the car this afternoon, all the mods were nice and i was impressed by the drive (first experiance of jabba Remap) although wasnt as smooth as the ol' customcode, but all in all there were quite a few things wrong, large strip of rust located underneath the wiper on the tailgate, multiple chips around all the arches (too many to ignore) and inside the driver seat was bobbled to hell and back and had duct tape holding a rip in it. After a long convo with the guy it became apparent that he wasnt gonna budge on price much. On one hand getting all those mods thrown in was a good thing but on the other I set out to find a car that was as good in quality as mine and that means the interior exterior everything!
and it was a 2000 so no AUM :tongue:
So in the end i walked away as i felt that the mods didnt justify the lack of quality to be found throughout, and in my gut i want a car that is standard so i can build it up, dont want a ragged turbo!
so as the title says the hunt continues :laugh: any leads please let me know!

i saw that in tesco car park the other day was dark at the time and it looked sweet but guess it wasn't as good as it looked!

yeah its a bit of a mona lisa! looks great from a distance but is all cracked up close! dont get me wrong it is a sweet looking car its just that i need the basic car to be in great condition, cant be bothered to have to get it sprayed and change the interior! Did i mention that i have Golf OCD :laugh:
