I do like white, but don't have the cahoonas to buy a white car - too worried about resale problems. Albiet my worries may now be unfounded.
YES! my mk2's white
Suprised blue's so far down!
My sig says it all !
Had a look at used vw golf coulours for sale on autotrader today from £12000 to £2
silver 842
black 826
blue 552
grey 421
red 157
white 14
As i am not one to follow a crowd, i changed my ordered ED 30 coulour from red to white.
i've actually conducted tests in my laboratory
and while red was fastest (matches colour of my last car), black officially became the fastest colour when using a secret formula and 2 test tubes, i made a scientific breakthrough.......
keep it quiet though
Was it not that white cars were difficult to shift cos the polis used to swamp the market with their old cars, but now they opt for other colours on the cop cars there is less of an issue with white. From what I can see in the last year or so companies are showcasing their flagship models in white.I do like white, but don't have the cahoonas to buy a white car - too worried about resale problems. maybe not, since Europeans like black more.
Actually, white is hard to sell, I read statistics a few months ago...
I think white is chosen by braver people (because of the lower resale value, because of "cheap color"-stigma, etc)

Black always looks good but white doesnt look as good on a night. Black also looks better when its dirty as the white would show alot more carp

I've noticed that too. For example, the new Nissan GTR (though white doesn't suit it), the Audi R8's been showcased in white, and on the BMW site, the movies for the new M3 are of a white car (which looks rather tasty actually!).
I think it's the 'ipod generation' kicking in, plus the fact that almost every shopping trolley on the road is some variant of metallic silver/grey/light blue and every repmobile is some variant of silver/black/deep blue.
That's why I've ordered a white Edition 30... a month to go hopefully.
Anyone want a gti-6 for 1500 quid?

i gotta ask you hurdy, what qualifications do you have?
i've got a phd is talking BS! it took me 5 years to get that!!!Breaking news.......Breaking news..........
Awesome GTI have just this moment confirmed that Silver has just taken over again as the fastest colour.
A combination of rolling roads, diagnostics and careful analysis along with a thorough road test have proved undeniably that this is a positive result for silver. :smug: :nerd:

Methinks the black car owners doeth protest too much!
Of course black is nice. I'd even go so far as to say that every colour is nice (I'm so generous!).
However, black is done to death... Every repmobile is black. Grey and silver...again, done to death. The motorway is stuffed with grey...
That is, perhaps, why motor manufacturers are tripping over themselves to show their new products in white.
-practical (people get out your way thinking you're the cops)
-practical again (return to your car on a hot summer's day and it won't be so hot!)
-practical a third time (looks great dirty!)
-practical yet again (easy to find your car in a car park!)
-exclusive (everyone goes for black or metallic)
-traditional - White is the colour of the original golf (not sure about that actually, but never mind!)
-faster... Yes, unbelievably, 60mph in a white car is a full 10% quicker than 60mph in any other colour* (*this may not be entirely true)
...and most of all
-sexy and cool... just like me!
So, black owners, be happy that you have a great car in a great colour. Grey owners - be happy that you didn't choose tornado red. But white is *the* colour for the 21st century!

Most of the white cars i see on the road are generally driven by women who have "princess on board" stickers out the rear window

It is not entirely true, sometimes they are also driven by guys with a sticker "price on board" out the rear window. And these guys get all the girls, because, as we know, all the girls are looking for princes!
i saw michael barrymore the other day in a white car
I can't wait to get my white car. I've always liked black cars and think they look great. I even went as far as deciding my next car would be black, whatever it was. But after seeing a white Ed30 there was only one colour it COULD be

black = common + do not see difference between cars unless you really look for them, but
black is great, I agree

yes I am! I like to dress in womens' clothes. :nerd: You have a problem with that or something?
To skip the crossdressing theme for a moment, another reason I went for white is that there are some really nice design details on the Mk5 gti which white shows off best.
Specifically, the front has a lot of black plastic which on a car with rubbish attention to detail would be best hidden with black, but since the design is so good, white is the best to bring it out.
Then there's the way the recesses where the wipers go becomes shallower as it progresses up around the windscreen - or the way the same thing happens around the inner edges of the headlights near the grille. you only really notice these things on the white car. Then there's the shape of the windows - it's a really strong part of the overall design, and a light colour is needed to bring this out... it's a shame they've ruined the line around the back windows (the seal on the inside breaks the line from the front window).
Basically, I think black is best for cars where you want to hide the design of the bodywork, but the golf is unusually well done and these features need showing off! (compare with the godawful peugeots right now  which look best when covered in a sheet )
Final argument for white is that it makes the golf look like what the stormtroopers on star wars would be driving. Surely that's the most important consideration?

Silver is the fastest.
But where does United Grey get you?
Hmm.
So United Grey is fast. Agile and peaceful?
Not to mention easy to clean
