Just out of curiosity what things are people enabling/disabling or changing with VCDS/obd11?

Just out of curiosity what things are people enabling/disabling or changing with VCDS/obd11?

Things I've done is
Full brake lights
Leaving/coming home set to fogs and drl's and up to 90seconds
Drl's set to 100% and rear lights light with drl's
Fogs set to flash with main beam
Indicators set to 4 but can be set 5 flashes
Puddle lights set to stay on even if mirrors are folding
MIB2 set to sport
DIS set to red accent
Climate fan shows speed when in auto
Climate set to warm weather countries
Heated seats set to remember setting
Soundaktor set to 0%
Mode button set to stay white when in sport mode
ADS set to strong

There's probably more things I done but can't think of them now

Nuking start/stop is normally top of the list!

I've also turned on dimming drl's when the indicators are on, acoustic locking, auto closing windows in rain and enabling highlevel brake light with locking acknowledgement and in reverse gear.

Setting DRLs to 100% is a little bit blinding. I have set mine to around 50% (up from 26% default) so it doesn't burn the retinas of oncoming drivers at night. Then dim them down to 26% again when indicators are on.

Auto closing in rain doesn't work anymore on newer cars. It worked on my MY2014 GT estate but doesn't on my MY2016 GTD.

I knew I'd forget some stuff

Done the rain closing and also the holding hand behind door handle and thumb on the dimple to open or close all windows.

Don't need to stop the stop start as I have a manual, if I don't want it to stop I just keep my foot on the clutch.

I'm thinking with all the salt and crap on the roads that windscreen washer fluid is going to be the last thing on my things to be worried about getting on the car.

@Audy, that's what I used to do in my CC.

Nah, I'd rather an even layer of salt and winter grime without the runny streaks from headlight washer fluid, which always looks skanky even on a dirty car.

I'm afraid you are now banned from the detailing section until you get your act together, and then we'll think about if you will be allowed back in. I'm open to bribes.

Rain closing doesn't work?

Of course it blinds people, DRLs were specifically designed to be MORE noticeable than dipped beam at day (which are aimed away from oncoming traffic, DRLs are aimed AT it). Try it at night.

Yep, rain closing stopped working, VW changed the rain sensor and it does not work with the new ones.

Now why didn't I think to try it at night....

Of course I tried it at night, I'm not stupid.

Didn't say you were. Though they are far too bright on 100% - assuming you're talking about the U-shaped LED ones.
Turn one up to 100% and one to default 26%, drive up to a wall - about 10m away and look at the light pattern.

The fact that you thought I wouldn't have tried it at night to see if they were too bright says a lot about how stupid you think I may or may not be.

Now either I and the people I asked to see if they were too bright have some type of extra special eyes or they don't blind other road users because we tried it at different heights and angles around the front of the car.

I've got DRL's at 100% (on a 65 plate) and have tested them (beamed onto house wall, photographed them - compared to the default setting) and no way are they blinding.  Never had anyone flash me (with headlights, lol).

Is yours a MY17, i.e. 7.5?
Mine were a MY14 and 16, so had the U-shaped LED DRLs and they are bright as f**k on 100. I've got mine turned up too (to around 50~60%, can't remember exact value I put in), maybe the MY17 ones are more dim or the full DRL value is different, e.g. 127.

PS:
Don't read too much between the lines buddy ;) If I wanted to say I thought something or someone was stupid I'd do so outright.

Don't mean to be a wiseass but if you look at DRL when you're eyes or camera are adjusted to 'bright' it may not blind - if they aren't as the night is dark then they will blind you temporarily.

Try with a camera in manual settings (auto settings will adapt which your eyes won't quickly enough unless you've been looking at lights for 2-3 secs nds) open the aperture wide and set the shutter time so that the headlights (dipped beam from inside car) look as bright as they would if you're driving.
Now go outside and use a tripod set up to height where normally a driver's pair of eyes are at a few meters to say 50m away, offset so you're on the right of the car. With the same manual camera settings now take an image and look at the brightness with standard 26% and then 100%.

On a different note; not getting flashed by other road users doesn't really mean sh!t as a measure of how blinding your headlights are. ;)

I'm just wanting to discuss so don't take above too seriously. DRLs on 100% will probably still blind less than the idiots who drive round with misadjusted lights, HID bulbs in halogen headlights etc. I just see a lot if idiots on the roads due to my high annual mileage.... suppose that makes me a little sensitive :D

Eyes were fully adjusted to darkness when inspecting the DRL's at 100%.  Didn't just walk out of a lit house into darkness.  A period of adjustment was undertaken

DSLR camera was in manual mode (on tripod) with appropriate shutter speed selected for the conditions, as it always is especially when taking shots at night.

Getting flashed by other drivers (not by I wanted a GTI) can be an indication of blinding other drivers, look what happens when you don't dip your beams at night.

We'll have to disagree on this one.

Appropriate shutter speed for the conditions, I assume to take a nice photo?
Put the settings to what you'd need to use looking out of car, most likely they are longer so then taking a photo from the front would highlight what I meant with too bright. :)

But back to topic, OP do you need someone for coding?

If you can't find someone or want to do it yourself - go for Obdeleven as it's considerably cheaper than VCDS and user friendly.

Buy direct from here https://obdeleven.com/en/

The Pro version enables you to do long coding as well as use apps to make changes.  It only runs on Android (I bought a cheapy Android tablet as I'm apple user).  Cheeky to direct you elsehwere but lots of info on the R forum and lots of coding on there too.

I'd second all of the above - quite easy to pick up from scratch.

Had a few instances where OBD11 and Carista can't do quite as much as VCDS. Recently on an A3 (MY17) where it failed to turn on audible locking confirmation. With some stuff they are a little behind in implementing (to do with them needing to implement ASAM data).
Though I'd say it's a feasible and cheaper alternative but would recommend to write down all changes as it doesn't keep a log (like VCDS or VCP do on the PC) so you can revert back to original if you have to or want to for any reason.

You may be right, but in the context of a mk7 Golf OBDeleven did activate acoustic locking for me. Also, there is a history of all changes made which I have made use of. And it's only £40.

Obdeleven is not as feature rich as VCDS, particularly on the diagnostics side, no question about that, but for the money it covers the majority of adaptations and a good level of diagnostics. Well worth the money.

I have done way more on my Mk7 with OBDeleven pro than I ever did with my VCDS in my CC's

VCDS is great if your doing it as a weekly thing or have different VAG cars but if you only have a Mk7 then I'd pick the OBDeleven every time, and for the the extra price if the pro it's a no brainer to get that.

Long choosing may look a bit daunting at first but it is easy as hell if you follow the many guides  on here and other forums and make sure you do a backup first..

Go to Booth11's link and scroll towards the bottom and buy both the OBDeleven £35.10 and the pro key £21.93 and your done. The pro key is just a code written on the little bag that it comes in.

No the pro key is a onetime thing, it is for the OBDeleven that you get. You download the app from the google app store and register your details to log into it, you can use your facebokk or twitter logins if you want but you don't have to. When you've logged into it you can then enter your pro code.

My bad, it's €40 plus the pro key. You can buy this code at a later date if not sure.

So do u need the pro code to alter sound aktor and light settings or can i do that with just the ebdeleven itself ?

Yes, but even if you could do it without the pro code you would have to pay to get the credits to do it. For the extra money it costs for the pro I wouldn't dream of not getting the pro key.

Jesus I sound like a promoter for them

Once you get your head around it all(did I mention long coding is mostly in german) but the guides are so easy to follow. Have a look here http://obdeleven.proboards.com/board/81/mk7

Don there is very helpfull is very easy to follow guides.

Short answer is no, and if that's all you want to change it'll do it fine. Like most things though you end up looking deeper and further for other tweaks which require detailed coding changes.

Anyone in Milton Keynes area got one? I just want to switch off soundaktor so reluctant to buy just for that.

I considered manually disconnecting it which looks easy, but to have a cable connector lying loose (even if i managed to tape it up) goes against the grain when there's an option to switch it off.

Thanks itavaltalainen - have PM'd you.

Also dropped by my local indi VAG specialist. They didn't know what a soundaktor which was worrrying, but plugged in their laptop. Found what we thought might be it, but it was in German so not sure and decided not to de-activate it just in case!

Not too impressed by them....

So 3 months on I've been a happy bunny - peace and quiet with the soundakto disabled.

Had to take her in to the dealer to check a break warning light (they found no fault), and I swear the soundaktor is active again. They swear they haven't touched the settings, but then said anyway it's driver set-up via the mode (which is not the same as disabling but they don't acknowlege that).

Is it possible/likely they reset everything to factory settings and switched the soundaktor back on without realising?

mike: Hi - anything is "possible", but I suspect it is unlikely unless the dealer re-flashed the firmware in the control module (which I would have thought that they would have mentioned)
Anyway, it's an easy thing to check. Just log-into the Structure Borne Sound control module, then navigate to the only adaptation channel in this module and check if it's value is set to 0

Same way you turned it down/off, just check the setting you changed is still the same and not turned back up

I've coded it out, would be weird for it to reset itself!

This is the coding you need to do:
Address A9   5G0 907 159    channel IDE04472-Volume of structure-borne noise actuator   adapted from   100.0 %   to   0 %   Monday   2   April   2018   14:07:32:58731

I won't likely get to MK any time soon (or at all anymore) as I'm soon moving to Germany.

Hopefully I'll find someone else around MK, or invest in a OBD11 which might save future hassle.

Finally bought an OBD and have made various adjustments. A few via free credits and some with the Pro key via the 'adaptions' options.

One that's stumped me, and instructions on the Pro board are inadequate: to alter the 'puddle lights' (ambiant lighting) I found:

 The following coding applies:

    Select STG 52 (Beifahr Türelektr..)
STG long coding -> function 07
    byte 01
    Disable Bit 5

    Select STG 42 (driver Türelektr.)
STG long coding -> function 07
    byte 01
    Disable Bit 5

but no helpful explanations anwhere of how to do this. Anyong give a step-by-step guide?
