Title: Strong Smell (Again)
Post by: MoshiMoshi on 31 March 2014, 21:04
Whenever I've been driving the car for a period of time (say 20 minutes on the M4) and then come to a stop, the car stinks of rich fuel. Properly stinks. I'm getting a 17705 and a 17545 (fuel trim bank 1 too rich or something). Any ideas on the cause of this?

I'm thinking: Dodgy MAF? Boost Leak? Problem with my Forge DV?

No, it passed the MOT on emissions a few weeks back. The cat is a little worse for wear and will need sorting next year.

That I believe is a lambda problem (I was getting the same on the vRS)

 the famous 17705 fault, good luck  http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17705/P1297/004759 this can be alot of things also been well documented here and other forums  :lipsrsealed:

Your 17545 code http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17545/P1137/004407 as wayne has said a lambda problem  this is one of the faults to throw that code up

Thanks guys, can we be more or less sure its the front lambda at fault? And can anybody recommend one that wont cost me a fortune? I'm pretty broke at the moment and don't want to spend much.

I order through my friends garage, but they must do cash accounts, is there a branch near you?

Not sure if I'd jump straight on a Lambda personally. Air leaks, dodgy temp sensors etc can all make the car run rich and throw that code.

What I thought. How much do you reckon a garage will want for a pressure/ smoke test of the whole PCV and intake system?
