Where did you get them done?
-
Wigan Alloys. I was worried because if you buy cheap you buy twice but all my mates have had them done and they are excellent!
-
Yea mate i know what you mean had a set of bbs rx 504 centres done in a bodyshop £120 not happy with thm like and £80 for the four barrells powdercoated by a "mate" powdercoated over the sand they used to blast them they are awful!!

Very nice indeed now stay away from the kerbs!!!!
-
They look good
-
they look sweet, how long did it take them?
did you leave car or lend you courtesy car?
-
Did the op not say same day?
-
Nope sorry other thread
-
I always thought you could not beat the original finish of the vancouvers but must say i am pleasently suprised! That looks very smart... you got me thinking now as my GT is in Mettalic Blue Graphite and i think the colour of your wheels would contrast quite nicely
-
Lush colour but its oem for me the way the light catches the contrasting spokes
-
No that was for a sig ... Which I've now got ... Right photobucket it is ;)
They look fantastic
You don't necessarily need a photobucket account. You can just easily post picures from Flickr. Just follow the exact same process I gave you in the other thread, you just paste the link into your post instead
-
Just some more photo's, it was done in less than 6 Hours, They didn't give me a courtesy car, but then again, for 6 Hours I didn't really need one ;)

Cheers mate! I didn't want to go black, seemed the obvious choice, took the risk with these and going off what people are saying, they seem to be the right choice!

They look great. Really like them!

I think they look great, really suit it.
Horrid??

Like Matty, I prefer the OEM look of Vancouvers, but if I didn't know how they originally looked, I'd say they looked good...in the photos. I can't help thinking that 6 hours and £80 isn't going to give as new results on closer inspection.
Not Vancouvers obviously, but these are a set of BBS RA's having had the Lepsons treatment.

Honestly mate, for £80 they are superb, they are really good quality!!!!!!! I can understand why you would think that though, the porsche on the picture with my car had exactly the same treatment and they are immaculate (hense why I had mine done) The guy is trying to make a name for himself and £80 for all 4 and really good quality is giving him alot of custom through word of mouth....

Oh, I like that. Shadow Blue with dark (but not black) wheels...awesome.
But then I would say so...I've gone the same way on my Mk5 GT

Love those BBS Wheels!!! But then again, I'm quite happy with my wheels for the minute ;) Especially after the paint job!
-
The calipers are getting painted this weekend, now... I'm not sure what colour to go for, I've got white at the minute, on the front only because I wanted to see what they would look like, and I've got yellow (not just rubbish yellow it's like the MEGANE RS yellow) what do you all think will look good with these wheels and the colour of the car? Personally I'm feeling yellow, what do you think???
-
Either black or original silver. Anything too standoutish will draw more attention to the tiny brakes.
-
Id say black, keep it more stealth than show....
-
Black from me to suit the wheels as well
-
Yep, black too, keep it classy and subtle. I can understand your thinking with the yellow but I think it will cheapen the look and as dubber says will only emphasise the size of the brakes. Bright calipers only really look good on big kickass brakes.
-
yellow will just show how small your brakes are
-
Hmmm .... I just think yellow would look pretty class ... I'll try black on one side and yellow the other, see which looks best ...
-

Yellow will take all the class away. Yellow is for FR and Cupra's or people under 22
*edit, after just checking your profile, your 20 - Go ahead it will fine mate.
-
on a porsche with a ceramic option maybe, not on iddy biddy brakes
-
Hmmmm I suppose ... Might have a little look, white doesn't actually look to bad at the moment, not really that noticeable..... Wish I would have asked before I bought the paint  hahaha! Ey well I'll have a look at them on the weekend, see how they look!
-
Listen if you got the paint doit and put some pictures up and the ask us what we think it can always be changed if it doesn't look any good go for it buddy

Yeah, That sounds like a plan! Just need a breaker bar to get these wheels off now. Tried getting it off the other day and it was impossible!
-
Right, the car gets lowered on the 30th Jan, is 35mm not enough, I use it everyday motorway miles, and on my route there are speed bumps, I want it noticeably lower, but have been told I won't even be able to notice 35mm .... What do you think?
-
35mm should be spot on black calipers are BORING what is everyones obession with black? Is this wheeler dealers? Where ed china paints eveything matt black? Just noo! Mine are going gloss white or candy purple however i have rs 4 pots for up front
-

So your saying no to yellow? I really think the blue and yellow will go together! I'm just gonna try white black and yellow! Haha! RS 4 Pots? What colour ;)? (I'll steal ideas haha!) will the 35mm be noticeable do you think?
-
Go yellow! I think to the ppl who will appreciate it 35mm will be noticeable i wish had that car when i was 20!!
-
I think that most of us are saying no to yellow as they will emphasise your teeny weeny brakes. It's really not a good look.
People that know cars, will give an approving nod to a subtle 35mm drop, but they'll just snigger at standard calipers painted yellow. Do the job properly, or leave it alone.
-

Candy purple - don't do it Matty  There's a car round here with purple calipers and it looks truly awful. It doesn't matter how good the rest of the car looks, all you notice is the tacky purple. Candy purple rarely looks good on anything. Matt black - no.
OP - if you've got the paint, then try it but I'm betting it's not long before you change them. Whilst your car colour looks good against the yellow Porche, that won't necessarily translate well onto to little brakes.
-

So maybe I get huge brakes and that solves everything, how hard is it too fit big brakes and what kind of price are we talking? Okay, I'm happy with 35mm being subtle, still have to tell the insurance though, and they want £40 the robbing b*stards.
-

If your telling me to go yellow so I look ridiculous, I won't be happy ;) hahaha!! I'm gonna try it, see what everyone's thoughts are ( which I think I know what they are anyway) , and then potentially go and buy some MORE black paint ;) I'll have to see how they look!
To be fair, I had milk bottle tops for brakes on my corsa c and I painted them ;)
-
Right I've been given some spacers aswell, (for free!), I've been told to steer clear from spacers ( due to the amount of miles I do ) is it wears tyres or other components down, is this true?
-
Front wheel drive cars with independent rear suspension, especially those with larger wheels, can suffer from uneven rear tyre wear. Lots of us have suffered it. It's generally down to too much rear toe in. It only needs to be out by a fraction of a degree to cause issues.
My car is totally standard and has had it's alignment set up at VW and now drives like a completely different car, with no tyre wear issues at all. They are very sensitive to the slightest changes in geometry. Lowering and modest spacers will need the suspension geometry setting up accordingly, so budget at least another £100 if you want to do the job properly.
-
Awesome gti are fitting and doing geometry for £180 ( discount because I bought the springs from them ) sound like a good price you reckon?
-
So If I get the geometry set up, will I have any issues with spacers? Do you recommend spacers or no spacers?
-
Unless you need the spacers to clear the brake calipers, do not fit them. Puts extra strain on the wheels bearings.
-

Fair enough!! No spacers it is!!!
-
Finally got round to painting the brakes once the car had been lowered, Personally don't think they look that bad! Thoughts? Slightly disappointed with the drop as well ....

Yellow looks ok

Yellow looks ok
Doesn't look too bad does it ?
-
Not to my taste. Still think black or grey would look classier, but it's your car. Did you want it lower than that?
-
Maybe it's just the pic, but your tyre looks like it needs air
-
Not a fan of the brembo sticker tho lol
-
Not a fan of the brembo sticker tho lol
HA! They are actually brembo disks and pads so thats my justification ;)
Yeah the tyres need air, I've got the warning light on, I just haven't had time !
-
Haha ok budd
-
Not sure !!!!!! But I haven't dismissed them
-
I still think they make the brakes look even smaller than they really are.
-
What are your issues with "looking" like small brakes paint doesn't change the size
-
It draws attention to them. Why would you draw attention to something so small?
Mine are just as tiny, but they are silver and behind silver wheels kind of go unnoticed.
-
I think we'ill agree to disagree
-
I don't think me and you will ever agree on anything, probably not on even when to disagree.
Being an architect, I do have an eye for proportions and how to emphasise or disguise them. Contrasting colours draw the eye and as I said before, I don't understand why someone would want to drawn attention to something that's not worth looking at.
-
Liking the yellow callipers
-
I said black originally, but i think that was wrong as some color adds a different contrast. But i do have to say mate yellow is not the right color at all.
The GTI / GTD looks classy in blue, painted yellow just looks like a halfords mod. You have actually managed to take peoples eye away from what a nice car you own.
Im only 27, so im not being a golden oldie, but i think they would look a ton better if they were painted red. Red and blue go really nice on the GTI.
*Edit* - Cant believe you used a scissor jack, if that would have tipped or snapped (which often happens) you car would have smashed into the floor with no wheels on that side. That would have f*cked up all your disks and suspension. Stop buying yellow paint and buy a trolley jack.
-
red would have been nice with your wheels

Off topic, I know, but good to find a fellow architect on here, although I am now retired.
-
I'm a colour technician
What does a colour technician do?
-
Talk about colours in a technical way or appreciating them making them more rich and diserable
-
Everyone will be influenced by their own experience.
I studied painting (fine art) and used to be a painter, so I see and look at colour combinations, juxtapositioning, tonal contrast, etc from that perspective. I think the yellow is not the right tone and is too chalky against the deep blue. If it has to be a colour, something with more depth would be better.

Matty, you just keep them as you like.

I know, I actually have axel stands somewhere in the other half of the garage but I couldn't be bothered looking for them, and a trolley jack will be my next investment I promise ;)
Oh, and I hate to break it too you mate but 27 makes you a 'golden oldie' ;) hahaha!! Maybe if you were my age again you'd agree ;) hahaha!
It draws attention to them. Why would you draw attention to something so small?
Mine are just as tiny, but they are silver and behind silver wheels kind of go unnoticed.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion I suppose!! Just think its something different to everyone else's car I suppose!

red would have been nice with your wheels

I did think red to be fair, I've had them before on my little corsa and I wasn't to sure ... Might have to test red after seeing your photo ( Once I've bought a proper jack of course ) ;)

As in the one with the fins on if that makes sense and not flat?

As in the one with the fins on if that makes sense and not flat?
oh, i didnt know GTDs didnt have the fins.
-
Yea its diff to standard gtd looks unique not to my taste tho
-

oh, i didnt know GTDs didnt have the fins.
Isn't Passant's car a GT (albeit with a GTD badge and grill)?
-
Correct whats the point dude?

Correct whats the point dude?
The point being that if it's got the original diffuser on, it won't have fins. Does it have a GTD diff on at the moment?
-
No mate i have a gtd no fins the only one with fins i've seen is the gti twin exit one

Yeah, Its just the GT so Im thinking the Diffuser with the fin's, I didn't realise they were standard on the GTD, I've never really seen one, Will have a browse on the internet now to see if I like them!
-
They aren't standard on gtd's
-

That's right, only on GTI's. I was simply wondering what you had on the car currently.
-
The item he has the link to is and aftermarket item tgat is neither gti nor gtd its something completely diff
-
I know that

Thats what I've got on currently, It is an aftermarket part, also If I fit the GTI Spoiler do I have to dewiper my back windscreen?
Apologies for all the questions ;)
( Oh and before you say it, I'm aware it needs a clean )
-
I know that
So what you on about then?
-

Eh?? I think you and I are talking at cross purposes.
-

No, but as well as the spoiler, you'll need the correct brake light to fit in the spoiler and I think, an extension pipe for the squirter.
-
Right, as you have all probably read in the past posts I've put I've had my car lowered and the springs are just sitting in my room taking up space, how much would you say I put them on eBay for buy it now... standard mk6 gt tdi springs ... Any ideas?

They are not a very sort after item and dont often break, Most people list them for £50 including postage. But if you ant a quick sale id say about £40
-
are they the stock springs??
I'm after the GTD springs, which lower the car by 15mm. I've got a 2.0 TDI GT, but its not lowered.

That's odd, because my GT TDI has sports suspension and is the same height as my mates GTD.
-
here is a shot of the car
it doesnt look too bad here! But trust me, its worse from the side profile.

I'd really like to drop it just 15mm like the standard GTI / GTD.
I dont want to compromise the ride / comfort levels too much.
How does the 25mm drop feel compared to stock?
-
^Hadwins??
The ride might be slightly firmer but still comfortable imo, best bet is to find a GTD for sale and have a go.
-
Here's mine compared to a Match with standard suspension.
(http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t264/dubber36/SAM_8057.jpg) (http://s162.photobucket.com/user/dubber36/media/SAM_8057.jpg.html)
I know that the Match has 16" wheels. This picture really goes to show that larger wheels make a car appear higher than it really is. I measured both cars ride heights, from the center of the hub to the top of the wheel arch, and my GT is 17mm lower.

yes, Hadwins in Grange over sands. thanks
cheers Dubber 36, looks pretty similar on those shots.
arrggh, may end up going for the 25mm drop, hope my wife doesnt complain about the ride!!
-
25mm drop shouldn't really effect the ride at all mate cheap sh!t coilovers will speaking from experience
-
I would have thought the spring rate would effect the ride, more so than the amount of drop.
-
I've lowered mine by 35 mm as you can probably see from the past posts, I do 60 - 100 miles a day and can't really tell the difference in the ride! So am I right in thinking these are 15mm lower than a standard golf, would these fit a mk5 do you reckon?
-
So am I right in thinking these are 15mm lower than a standard golf, would these fit a mk5 do you reckon?
Yes, and should do as it's the same platform. Just bear in mind they are rated for a 2.0 diesel, so may not have the same effect on a 1.4 petrol.
-
Would bulb holders for a MK5 golf fit my MK6.
-
Thanks for posting the photos its answered a question ive had about dark wheels and shadow blue for a while. I like the anthracite but I think black would be too dark.

I'm glad you agree! Just don't know what else to do to it now!!! Any suggestions based on the photo's I've uploaded so far!?

Late reply but did you ever sell these? I want to lower mine slightly from its stock Match ride height and GT springs seem the easiest way forward
