Hi guys! Is this a standard option on the gti or do you have to pay for the winter pack?

It is my understanding that any vehicle fitted with xenon headlights must have headlight washers by law.

correct
-
So winter pack if you specked leather is a waste of money in that case!

The other items in the winter pack, apart from heated seats and headlamp washers, are heated washer jets and low windscreen washer fluid level warning light in the instrument display. I think you automatically get the low washer fluid warning light if you've got xenons, so if you spec leather in a GTI or GTD which come with xenons as standard, the winter pack only gives you the heated washer jets(!).
So, not the best value option to spec on a GTI or GTD.

Thanks guys! No winter pack for me needed.

Very very much so.
-
why have so many forum users specced the winter pack then if its
such a waste of money , did they not realise , easy done cos vw marketing are very conniving in their description , ie telling you you get something on a pack which is already included on the standard car , naughty naughty !

Some might have specced it to get heated seats with cloth.
With most VAG options that have equipment that overlaps with standard spec on certain trim levels or with other equipment, they usually reduce the price for that affected trim level or in conjunction with another optional pack. Doesn't seem the case for the winter pack though.

Because most people didn't get leather but do want the bum warmers?
I still think its very very expansive even so... but then so is the leather, and the sat nav, and the sun roof, and the DCC.... If I was ordering again from scratch I would go for Keyless and Pro Nav and thats it.

I think most would argue that the Pro Nav is a seriously expensive option (considering it is more than twice the price of the standard unit for a little extra functionality and a bigger screen). I resisted all optional equipment - the markup on those things are huge, and perceived value is low when you compare to other things you can buy with that money (such as a very high end gaming laptop).
Bum warmers not as important on a cloth seat - doesn't feel anywhere near as cold as cold leather (says the man who'll go out drinking in Tynemouth on a Cold December's night in a short sleeved shirt!).
-
no you wouldn't bill , you would go for the bimmer

 I did go for the bimmer. On which I have leather and the pro nav.
What I mean is if I now reordered the GTI so as to have both cars I would do so with minimum options. Actually I'm not even sure I'd spec the pro nav much as I like it. Keyless yes but maybe thats it.
EDIT:
Nah, expensive as it is you need it to finish off the interior and for all the cool functions. If its one of only two options it doesn't bump the price of the car up too much.

Bum warmers are for us soft southerners not people from Newcastle!

I think the winter pack is cheaper on the GTID/GTD by about whole £20.
-
bum warmer on leather yes , but on fabric ! hello , reckon you need to stop driving in your birthday suit , what is the point of having a toasted arse , when the extremities of your body ie nose hands and feet are freezing cold , just makes the situation worse
-
Have you tried heated seats on a freezing winter morning, I'm guessing not? Each to their own.
Options are a b!tch, I'd have them all and if the truth be known so would every one of us.
-
yeah have , genius invention , on cold un- welcome leather , but fabric that's never really cold seems very expensive at over 300 sobs !
-
If I was ordering again I think I would probably ditch the ACC and maybe replace it with the Dynaudio but I would definitely keep the rest
-
I had a Skoda Superb rental a few months ago and it had heated seats. Have to say I loved them and it wasn't even that cold out! Something very comforting about sitting into a warm toasty seat.... Unless its a toilet seat of course

Each to their own.
I have cloth seats and I couldn't live without the heated option. When I've been outside scraping frost off the car or lugging my car cover around to the back of the house to hang up to defrost, it's a godsend getting into the car and having the seat warm me up. It's also less distracting than having the fan on at high speed blasting warm air around the cabin - I can leave it on the setting that directs the air towards the windscreen and leave the speed at 2 or 3.
The seat may or may not be cold. But I certainly am.

Great for piles too I would imagine!
I'd rather have a heated steering wheel - nothing worse than hands cold and aching from scraping ice in sub zero temperatures, just a 5 min blast of warmth would do it - has any car manufacturer ever put out a heated steering wheel option?

I'm sure there are a few out there. I think some Mercedes may have them but its definitely been done before
-
BMW have a heated steering wheel option, it comes with the winter pack.....
-
Range rover do heated SW as do Jaguar.
Edit: Standard on the Toureg R line i specced on the configurator! ;D

On my brothers RR he sets the seats and steering wheel to heat up automatically so that when gets in the car in the morning they are toasty warm - now that's an option I'd pay for!!

I don't think it is the law as there are a couple of Audis that have xenon lights but no headlamp washing system. It does say the headlamps are coated in some nano technology so maybe that is how they get round it.
Also I hired a basic Vauxhall Corsa learner car and it had heated seats and heated steering wheel. Couldn't believe it.

Even the Astra VXR has a heated SW option!!
Which (to be honest) is the only other car I am considering. Although with the paint problems they are having on the only colour I would consider (Arden Blue) I am still steering towards the GTI. I am in the lucky position of being able to buy tax free, which makes a vanilla build VXR £2k cheaper than the GTI - however I feel the GTI residuals, build quality (although the new VXR is miles ahead of my Mk1 VXR) and running costs will win me over in the end!
