Hi Guys,
It saddens me to say that I have decided to cancel my GTI. Personal circumstances mean that I won't be in the UK in October (when I get my car). I may even buy the Golf R in February 2014, let's see.
Anyway, instead of cancelling I thought why not offer my slot and amazing deal to someone on this forum.
My build week is 39, expecting delivery mid October.
My car: Golf GTI PP DSG, 3 Door, Pure white, ACC, with Reverse camera. Price is just under £26k (about £3600 discount).
Spec can be changed as it's in 'With the factory' stage and build week is not confirmed yet. Though I'm sure this will add a couple of weeks to the delivery time.
Please PM if you're interested.

Can't be both?

With delays the way they are, you might only be a few weeks off the wait for an R by the time this arrives. That is a cracking deal, and anyone who hasn't ordered yet who's struggling to get a decent deal out of their dealer should definitely consider this. For that level of discount, if my car wasn't so close to build (they may even start my BW33 car before the weekend is out), i'd probably take you up on it myself if I could lose the DSG and reverse camera (which it looks like I could).

Sure. To be precise, what my dealer emailed me was...
Your Golf currently has an estimated build week for its production at the factory, it is currently week 39 23rd-29th September.

Wow, they're dropping like flies! Drisser, Bear, now your good self :(
It's a real shame, but if you do end up going for the R I'm sure you'll have a blast. Not quite my bag in terms of looks (rear looks chavvy, front looks boring), but no denying the power plant under the hood!
Good luck mate, let's hop you get a taker for your build slot, and hope you stick around.

Yes thanks mate. Actually, VW delays have a lot to do with my decision. If I had gotten the car in reasonable time I would have been driving it come the new plate in a weeks time.

I have also been thinking about offering my slot to someone on here, so I'll follow hayabusa's lead.
- Please note it is not quite yet available as I've yet to actually ring my dealer and do the deed (waiting on signing the deal with BMW).
- My slot is a BW37 confirmed (but as we all know it may slip) so I think it is unlikely you can change the spec, so you'd have to put up with my unpopular choice of leather.
- I do not know if the dealer would be willing to offer the same discount (£2800) to others as they may consider that they can probably sell this car at full whack.
The spec is:
GTI 5 door - Pure White
DSG
Professional Navigation
Performance Pack
Adaptive Chassis Control
Leather Seats (with seat heating)
Sunroof
Keyless Entry
Rear Camera (rare chance to own one I guess)
5 years Factory Warranty
Total comes to about £32500, which makes the discount about 9%. I actually added the PP, ACC, Sunroof and Warranty after signing the deal and did not get an additional discount so you could always try it on for another £300 off to bring the discount closer to 10%.
Now I'd prefer that if someone takes this car it goes to someone who has been stuffed with a huge wait such as an April order stuck on BW51 (Ricepop?) rather than someone snapping it up and jumping the queue. I think that is only fair to handle it like that (rather than how VW handle it) but obviously because its unlikely the spec can be changed there may be fewer people interested. So if no one who already has an unfair wait on their hands steps forward I'll give the details to anyone else.
Like I say, I'm offering no guarantee the dealer will accept a transfer of the order, I haven't discussed it with them so I do not know what they will do with the car when I get round to cancelling it.
Good luck all!

Well it's not really a transfer is it. All you're doing is letting someone else buy the car. New buyer pays the deposit and they refund you. It's not even been built yet.
I reckon the spec can be changed too but this may add a couple of weeks to BW.

Its very disappointing seeing all these cancelled orders, but totally understandable. I hope someone who's been waiting since April picks up one of these cars and not someone off the street or someone who's only ordered in July (no offence to anyone that has, but fairs fair!)
This in itself is the crux of the problem though, and why VW don't give a flying f7ck - someone cancels and someone else buys the car hence they don't lose out, and therefore don't care. I do not agree with this in the slightest but that's the bottom line. P!ss poor and a shame to see good people get f7cked over.

My plan was to tell the dealer to return my deposit but say to them I have a friend interested in taking the car and they will call as soon as I hang up. Do you plan another method?
I'm less keen on having someone give me £500 themselves and if I was in their position I would not be keen either. How do they know I won't pocket the £500 and then keep the GTI or cancel it without telling them? Also I'm not sure how the dealer would feel about dealing with a Mr X who has just become a Mr Y with a new contact number, and new address, and new banking details.
I suspect they'd say the deal signed was between them and myself and if I'm pulling out a new deal with a new customer needs to be negotiated. Have you spoken to your dealer about it at all?
-
I suspect that for some of these orders already in place which subsequently get cancelled, the dealership may just keep them going for the dealership and try to get as close to RRP as they can, with prospective buyers being offered to “jump the queeue”, Or they may get them into stock to show prospective buyers and say to them “you can have it now!” (for full RRP or a very small discount).
The prospect of getting something nigh-on immediately that you should normally be waiting 5 or 6 months for is a powerful motivator for paying full RRP or close to it.

I feel like buying the car and selling it the next day lol.

Well I see your point. Of course it would be easier to just cancel it. I just didn't want to waste the opportunity. If it was a friend I could say to the dealer just register the car in his/her name. And then sort out the deposit return between us. But this is different.
-
Tell the dealer you want to change the first owner from MR X to Mr Y. Mr Y pays deposit to dealer, dealer gives deposit back to Mr X. Then all money is going through the dealer.

That could work. I'm calling to cancel first thing tomorrow morning then heading to the BMW dealer to sign the dotted line so if anyone wants my car say NOW. Well... before 8am tomorrow anyway!

Just to update all. I didn't cancel my GTI and noticed it's gone to status 'Build week confirmed' (22nd Sep).
It's a fantastic car and I got an amazing discount. I realised I'd be nuts to give up such a good deal particularly when I'll have it soon. So I adjusted my plans and will be here to pick it up :)
The Golf R will have to wait...

Just don't forget to order the "R" 6 months before you actually want it!

My GTD is the same build week and same dealer - we may bump into one another on collection!!!

That's great news mate :) It is indeed an absolutely fantastic car, and I for one can't believe how much of an upgrade it is over my old Mk5. If all goes well you should be driving it around mid-October, if not sooner (mine was 2.5 weeks from the start of the build week to delivery at the dealers). Plus, based on pictures, the GTI looks more distinctive than the R anyway, but no denying it will be an absolute beast in terms of power!

Lol really mate? VW in Kent? That's gonna be a heck of a trip back to Belfast then :)
Nice one!

Cheers Gryzor. Saw your car mate. Congratulations! Well worth the wait eh :)

Thanks mate, and yeah, more than worth the wait. I'd happily do it all over again knowing how good the car is :)

Yep - long story but family nearby, local dealers little discount called in on the off chance and they give out generous discounts as you know! Slightly bettered DTD at the time for me.
Probably a 5 hour drive plus an overnight ferry to look forward to but saving thousands so well worth it
