I suspect that for some of these orders already in place which subsequently get cancelled, the dealership may just keep them going for the dealership and try to get as close to RRP as they can, with prospective buyers being offered to “jump the queeue”, Or they may get them into stock to show prospective buyers and say to them “you can have it now!” (for full RRP or a very small discount).
The prospect of getting something nigh-on immediately that you should normally be waiting 5 or 6 months for is a powerful motivator for paying full RRP or close to it.
