Hi all new to the mk6 side of things, currently have a mk2 16v and a mk5 gti. My question is I have my mk5 from new but fancy a change, a nice white mk6 gti has become available locally and I'm tempted. Could anyone advise me to any possible benefits if upgrading or is it not worth it, and should I wait a while and look to selling body parts and getting a mk7?
-
Having gone from the Mk5 to the Mk6 Gti myself I'd say its quicker, more refined, cheaper tax, oh and better mpg according to the specs. i however have noticed no improvement in mpg. The only real negative is the electronic throttle in my opinion, which has a slight lag in pick up.
-
I've had a Mk5 R32 and a Mk5 GT TDI and my MK6 GTI does feel a lot better, I cant put my finger on why (obviousl;y the R32 was quicker, but also thirstier!) but I really am enjoying my Mk6
-
Also the last two gti's iv had have been black and there so nice to polish there's no better colour in my mind. Would white have as much satisfaction when I'm finished?
-
My R32 was Deep pearlescent blue, my diesel was black and my Mk6 GTI is Candy White, out of all of the DBP is my favourite by far

This sums it up. It's a great car.

Also a devotee of black cars - on my fourth one (third DBP gti). The only other colour I would go for in a gti is the white. It will just be a different kind of satisfaction and will undoubtedly look cleaner for longer
-
I love my Candy White GTi its just that there are soooooo many white cars about at the minute
-
That's it just got to convince the wife" who wants to go to dubai" cars last longer!!!!!

The car I liked has now sold, so now looking at a ed35. Are the worth the extra money or should I still look for a gti?
-
35's have xenons and fairy lights, which I think is a must. Also the larger turbo means more tuning potential.
Having said that, it you're not bothered about xenons and will be leaving it in standard tune, 90% of the time, you won't feel the benefit of the 35's slight power increase. So a nice speced GTI might be a better option, as there are more to choose from.
-
The car I like already has leather sat nav,the colour I like and those fairy lights are rather nice. What other speced up items are good to have?
-
Bluetooth is nice. It was standard on later cars. The Luxury Pack adds folding and reverse dipping passenger side mirror. Parking sensors and a rear view camera are also a good selling point. You can have Park Assist, but I don't know of anyone who's been brave enough to use it. Other than a sunroof, I can't think of anything else worth looking out for.
-
I used park assist yesterday to show my parents I say they were impressed

You interested in a CW Edi?
-
Hi ginge not sure what cw edi is
-
Candy white Edition 35, lux pack, TPMS. Plus lots of small mods at the right price.
-
I'll be using a dealer cause ill have to use my car as a trade in ta

Sell your car privately for more money than you would get as a trade in, then buy Neil's car for less money than the dealer would want for it. You'll be £2-3K better off that way. Even if it means buying a £500 stop gap to ride round in. There would be no shame in doing that, especially if you're saving so much money.

And you can be sure that Ginge's car has been very well looked after and maintained. The evidence is on this forum
-
would also vouch for Ginge's being a superb example of the 35, also not many 3 door manuals with watkins glens

Gonna have to mate, I've accepted a jib with my bro and it means 35k per year in miles, so the Edi will just be murdered. I've got a decent budget with the job so currently looking at a loaded A5 sport back or 330d m sport. Gutted really cos I'd love to keep her for shows etc. if the wife's cab didn't sit so wrong financially she'd go into it.

Ouch! Been there done that, I used to have an Mk5 R32 doing 30k per year, I kept it for 2 years until I realised how much money I was spending just on fuel
Good luck with the new job and with the sale of the car

Me and bev have agreed that we could really do with a 4/5 door car in out house and seeing as this will be a bit of a work horse then I guess it's mine and I can't bring myself to have a Golf in the 'more door' guise. Sorry to all of those rocking 5 doors.

You hate 5 door golfs that much!!
Steady on mate, you'll trigger the old 3 door v 5 door debate again
-
I can understand the 3-5 door debate when talking about Mk2's, but I think that larger cars suit 5 doors much better. Besides, 5 doors generally mean kids, which means your plumbing works, which subconsciously the ladies find quite attractive.

Haha! Must be very subconscious. As a lady I can honestly say I've never looked at a bloke driving a 5 door and thought 'ooh, he must be fertile'.........but keep thinking that

I get exactly what you mean :lipsrsealed:
-
My boss has just bought an A5 and although it's a nice looking car it's no GTI so lacks any fun factor. It's just a car. 330D for me every time.
I'm of the "a real GTI should have 3 doors" camp as it fits with the ethos. BUT the mk5 and 6 just look wrong in 3 door so it's been a series of 5 door GTIs for me but going back to 3 on the mk7.

It's the whole subconscious non-threatening thing as opposed to the thrusting look at me stance. A bit like a lad I was at school with who always had the girls swarming round him. We couldn't work out what they all saw in him. Everything fell into place years later when we heard he'd got married...to a bloke called Brian.
Actually it's nothing like that, but you get the idea, or maybe you don't. Oh what the hell do I know. No man will ever understand the workings of a woman, unless he's like the lad from our school.

Dubber, I do get the idea. Your post made me giggle too
Yes, we women can be unfathomable  At times this forum gives a bit of insight into the male psyche and all in all you seem a pretty sound bunch - restores my faith in men
