Do I buy?
« on: 16 June 2013, 19:05 »
Hi all new to the mk6 side of things, currently have a mk2 16v and a mk5 gti. My question is I have my mk5 from new but fancy a change, a nice white mk6 gti has become available locally and I'm tempted. Could anyone advise me to any possible benefits if upgrading or is it not worth it, and should I wait a while and look to selling body parts and getting a mk7?

Having gone from the Mk5 to the Mk6 Gti myself I'd say its quicker, more refined, cheaper tax, oh and better mpg according to the specs. i however have noticed no improvement in mpg. The only real negative is the electronic throttle in my opinion, which has a slight lag in pick up.

I've had a Mk5 R32 and a Mk5 GT TDI and my MK6 GTI does feel a lot better, I cant put my finger on why (obviousl;y the R32 was quicker, but also thirstier!) but I really am enjoying my Mk6

Also the last two gti's iv had have been black and there so nice to polish there's no better colour in my mind. Would white have as much satisfaction when I'm finished?

My R32 was Deep pearlescent blue, my diesel was black and my Mk6 GTI is Candy White, out of all of the DBP is my favourite by far

This sums it up.  It's a great car.

Also a devotee of black cars - on my fourth one (third DBP gti).  The only other colour I would go for in a gti is the white.  It will just be a different kind of satisfaction and will undoubtedly look cleaner for longer

The car I liked has now sold, so now looking at a ed35. Are the worth the extra money or should I still look for a gti?

35's have xenons and fairy lights, which I think is a must. Also the larger turbo means more tuning potential.

Having said that, it you're not bothered about xenons and will be leaving it in standard tune, 90% of the time, you won't feel the benefit of the 35's slight power increase. So a nice speced GTI might be a better option, as there are more to choose from.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
