Hi there. I'm a newbie to the forum. I'm just about to put an order in for a new company car and have managed to negotiate a GTi or GTD. I'd love to see one in the flesh and give it a drive before committing as I'll be on a 4 year lease.
I've seen there are a few knocking about around the company but had anyone got a list of the whereabouts of these at which stealers?
Cheers.
-
Flinty, you don't need to drive one to want one..............I'm the same as you, just ordered one as a company car (GTD) I drove the 2.0 GT & that was the best car I had ever driven. Wasn't sure what the attraction to the golf's were until I drove it. There's one in Glasgow if you can handle the, what, 8 hour drive!
-
Flintymutt: You might be able to get into a demo MK7 GTI right now for a drive (not sure whether they're officially giving customers test drives until 01 June), but you won't get a GTD yet, doesn't seem like anyone has a GTD demo in the UK. To get a feel for the GTD, go out in the GTI for a feel of the car and get a go in a Scirocco 170 or 177TDI, or a MK6 Golf GTD to get a feel for 90% of the performance. I'm guessing that GTI or GTD decision is down to you and and how much tax you want to be paying for it as a company car?

My local dealer have a tornado red one in so I'm off here on Friday afternoon for a quick gander.

Does anyone know which dealers in the middle/north of Scotland have GTIs either in the showroom or as demonstrators?
Thanks

South Hereford Garages have a Blue GTI, 5 Door, Manual, 18", Discover Pro Nav, Heated Seats. 352 miles on the clock when I took it out.

Is that the one off the Roman road? I'm down that way tommorrow so might go and have a look.

They rung me a week or so ago to say it was on the road. I've not had reason to go down that way to have a look yet. What time do you think you might be there James? I might pop down and have a look with you.

I'll be working down there, i'd like to pop in during my lunch break so about 12-12:30?

I've got a meeting at Shrewsbury at 1:00, so I'd be hard pushed to get there in that time.

White 3dr GTI in Cameron's, Perth. ACC & Media & Winter Pack.
Had a look but not a drive today - going to do a back to back when GTD demo is in too.
Front "radar" is not standard so unblemished honeycomb grill.
Prefer my mk6 steering wheel and seat side bolsters.
A few GTI orders already taken and lots of people waiting for GTD drive.......maybe the build times will get longer when customers make up their minds between the two!!!!!!

Popped into South Hereford today, unfortunately the director was just about to take it out so i couldn't get in it >:(
The blue looks OK imo but i don't think it's a shade i'd go for personally, the dimensions of the car seem quite a lot different to my mk6 even though there is only an inch or two in it the rear looks quite a bit smaller, lower and wider but still somehow smaller?? ???
The Austin wheels have a few more nooks and crannies than the Monzas, so will need a little bit more attention to keep clean but are definately attractive.
It looked like the under side of the rear spoiler was actually blue rather than black as Bear mentioned on the car he saw which is a bit strange!
Overall i'm ashamed to say it didn't really blow me away but i'm pretty sure thats down to the colour as i didn't particularly like it and i think it will look a whole lot better in lighter colours like white, red, silver etc.
Anyway, i took a few phone pics just before the gaffer took it out:

Did you get a chance to sit in it?

Nope! :'(

Nope! :'(
If you did you may have a felt a little better ignoring the colour. I can imagine its difficult for guys who are coming from Mk6 to the Mk7 as it may not seem much different. It's almost like someone moving from the iPhone 4 to the 5. For me it's going to be a totally new experience and I personally can't wait
-
Nice pics Jimble, but overall I have to agree on the colour. It's probably the one I dislike the most, and for me doesn't suit the car at all. Put one in white next to it and it's literally like night and day.

This was my thought too, i prefered the red one i saw at the Gadget show live but i still think white or silver is the way to go with this cars lines.
-
I'm glad it's not just me that was a bit underwhelmed with the mk7 GTI in the flesh.
Maybe it's just that Steel Grey mk6's look so awesome all else is an anticlimax?!! :lipsrsealed:

The red one was definitely black. Could be metallic gets matching colour spoiler? Or maybe the blue reflects? Hmm...

I reckon the night blue will come alive when the lights are on. Particularly from the rear. Then again white should look great at night too so....
Also I agree about not being blown away.. initially. I still think the body kit could be a little bit more adventurous. doesn't have to look like a VXR, but just slightly more different to the stock Golf and the mk6 GTIs would be good. But, wait until you drive it! It's such a good place to sit and you can feel its raring to get out on the road.
-
I like the fact that it's somewhat underwhelming!

Me too, however I think that white or red are the best colours for it.

Nothing better than driving a "wolf in sheeps clothing". I used to get regular use of my boss' Ford Granada Scorpio with Cosworth engine, the only giveaway as to the performance was the exhaust. Put nigh on everything else to shame on the road at the time.
-
Modified with a Sierra Cosworth engine, or the Cosworth tuned V6?

Same here, I like white cars in general, but the GTI pulls the look off so much better than most cars out there. Red looks good, but is better suited to the GTD with its silver/grey accents.

Oh yes, a mate of mine had an old Sierra that he purposefully made look bog-standard, but under the skin it was a beast of a car! Was great fun watching the faces of RS Turbo boy racers drop as they were left standing at the lights!

Cosworth tuned V6 2.9 150kW engine. What a car for an 18 year old to have had access to in 1993!
Used to regularly drive him to the airport for business trips and then have it while he was away. How I kept my license i'll never know. Took it up to 135mph on the M27 once (just quickly to see what it could do and straight back down to 80), and it had air conditioned seats!

135...80...both breaking the law! ;) Should have taken her further!

The grrrrr noise is nice though in third when floored. But yes blue is not on my shopping list.

Hi Guys,
Just to let you know that VW in Wolverhampton has a white GTI demonstrator in stock, just been to have a look at it and was throughly impressed. Build quality was incredible, and on start up it sounded a dream.

All good to hear. Take any pics Scotty?
-
Just took the one, but it was no different to others that have already been posted. No ADC, but had keyless entry and nav. Don't think it had PP either. Seems like a common theme on the demos.
-
I have just had VW Fleet confirm that GTD demonstrators will be available mid July.
My booking for the GTI Demonstrator is for beginning of August.
-
Just popped in to Stourbridge VW in my lunch hour and they've got a White 5 door manual with keyless and pro nav, it's in the demo bay and hasn't been driven yet, a nice sales lady let me have a sit in it (first chance in a RHD) and needless to say I was very impressed! The seats are so comfortable even compared to my mk6, the white is fantastic on it and the back seems so low and wide making it look very coupe-esque!
This is gonna be a long wait!...........
-
Took my UP! in for a service only to find that Vindis St Ives had just taken delivery of their GTI demonstrator and was about to go through for pdi. Managerd to have a quick look round and take a few pics. was even in the colour I had changed my order to so was great to see one in the flesh. Sorry but only had my phone to take the pics
Only problem is I want it now not in October.

Oooh, CSG! Might have to go take a look at that one since its just up the road.
Thanks for the tip Cats!
-
How does it look in the metal? That's the colour I've ordered, but haven't seen it anywhere.
-
Looks brilliant, the light was just right for that colour being hazy sun, am so glad I changed my order to this colour even if it did but my provisional BW from 27 to 36
-
Excellent! Thanks very much. Mine's being built this week according to my dealer, so fingers crossed I'll have it sometime in July. Can't wait.
-
I'm a little confused. How come the radar in the front grill isn't on the demonstrators? I thought it was standard for all the cars safety features. What extra isit that adds one on then?
Looks very nice in CSG. :)
-
My dealer told me that ADC was not originally to be on GTI's but was later changed and it looks like this was after the first demonstrators build schedule.

We only started seeing GTI demos filtering through 3 or 4 weeks ago. They would have been scheduled for build 6 weeks before that (assuming 2 weeks delivery, which we have seen is very very plausible).
ADC was a known standard equipment for the UK market earlier than 10 weeks ago but as they were MY13 builds they decided not to include ADC (even though it was available to MY13 cars as an optional extra - mad IMO).
-
These cars are going to be hard to sell as ex-demontrators with ADC missing and what about insurance for a car that's not standard. Did this feature not lower the insurance group by 5 places?
-
Interesting just went on meerka.com to get a quote and they are listing two versions of GTI for both standard and performance editions with "launch model" being shown. Are these cars without ADC?
-
Are these cars without ADC?
Yes. Could make a canny difference to premiums fror someone looking to be paying more than £500 a year for their insurance. Did you do an example quote for each variant to see the differences?
-
Tried both versions, no difference in quoted price.

£179 for protected fully comp. with Hastings but once I get a registration number Saga will be cheaper, about the only advantage of being old is car insurance. :smug:

Don't think that would help as it's always based on the youngest driver. Saga should be around £150 as that's what they quoted me for a new Fiesta ST which I think are the same insurance group.

it's based on risk not age at least not entirely. one person driving a car all the time is deemed more of a risk than two drivers who may share some of the driving. in theory your risk is halved giving lower premium.

Yet when I added my wife (who is older than me and has more NCB than me) to my current policy those fatherless sons at Avivia bumped the price up! I specifically pointed out that this meant I would be driving the car less than if I was the single driver and that they agreed she would pay less as a single driver, yet they are so f**king dumb they couldn't see that contradiction in their thick little heads, and no amount of explaining yeilded anything but long and tedious quotes from their terms and conditions or some other bullsh!t document that negates their need to use their brains. Yes I hate Aviva. Don't use them, trust me on this!
Apologies for curse words, but those guys make me mad.
-
Bear that would have been my point to tell them to go multiply themselves and take my business elsewhere. shopping around on all the comparison sites will net you a better deal than aviva who have to pay Paul S4itehouse for those crappy adverts!!

Agree with you both Aviva are sh!t (adverts are total sh!t) I'm with AXA for both my cars and manage the accounts on-line so far so good.

Not with Saga adding any type of driver puts up the premium.

so don't go with saga and find somewhere else. plenty of insurers for everyone but some do target particular cars, people and areas.

They are by far the cheapest for me with or without extra drivers and no one else drives my car any way.

Not sure what options yet as I haven't driven it. It arrived the day I went to them to place my order last week and they were still cleaning it and PDI-ing it. Will drive it next week probably.

Matchboy, vw birmingham's gtd demo is this blue. I had a spin in it and personally the CSG would look better. The blue looks a tad bland. That's just me though. I'm going into the dealership Saturday. If it's still there I'll take a few pics if you want.
