Car was in getting serviced today, so went for a mooch around to see what was there, and guess what I came across!!
At first I thought it was an unregistered Mark 6 but then saw the headlights and the alloy.
Granted it was still wrapped up bt it looked good.
Here are some pics, sorry they are only phone pics.

Great spot! My dealer told me they would have a GTi in the showroom on Monday.
-
What Dealer GerryD
Could be the dealer Demo car
-
Hope the water drains out if those mirrors better than the mk6
I'm on holiday at the moment and I've seen more mk7 down here than I have mk6 back home, must've had a sale on in Devon!
-
Must be a dealer demo as it hasn't got the ADC radar in the front grill.
Looks bloody nice all the same.
-
It was TJ Hamilton's in Cookstown, Northern Ireland.
Also noticed it didn't have the ADC as the GTs had.
-
Nice find!! I believe your the first one to snap one in the flesh!
-
Brilliant find, seems good to see a RHD
-
Looking good, even in that non GTI colour (Shadow blue?). Still not sold on the side badges though, they look a bit naff.

It's funny, I would never in a million years picked navy blue for a GTI but the red accents really pop with the blue. Nice

There are loads of MK7s around here you're right!! I think most of them are hire cars but I do see an awful lot around Devon.
Nice find GerryD btw, interesting to see one in that colour too.
-
Nice find... must be the first one in Northern Ireland... now to press my dealer for a test drive... even if it is a GTI
-
Here's an odd question for you then.
N.Ireland are same spec as UK.
We saw the bulletin from VW saying all cars built before build week 22, will not have ADC but Cruise Control instead (this would tie in with this car as it would have been built before week 22, next week).
So, will this car be 5x insurance groups higher to insure as it does not come with the ADC, that is supposed to make the insurance lower???? :undecided:
And also, why would the cars before build week 22 not come with it? All the test cars for the press launch had it fitted, so its not a supply or tech issue you would think?

They'll be quite hard to sell on once demo duties are done with some half arsed non UK spec.
I remember a few years ago my mrs was buying a Polo and was offered choice of 12 Polo Match's of various colours 3/5dr etc, none of which had AirCon yet the Match was supposed to have AirCon.
-
So, will this car be 5x insurance groups higher to insure as it does not come with the ADC, that is supposed to make the insurance lower???? :undecided:
If you bought one of these I guess that unless you told the insurance company that your car was an early build and didn't have ADC then they would have no idea. I doubt they separate the mk7 into groups by MY, does anyone know to the contrary?
Anyway, even if you do tell them there is no ADC I expect they'll just ignore it. The sales reps are told what to do by their computers so even if you explain to them that you should have to pay more as your car should be in a higher group than most other mk7s they're just going to say "its a mk7... so its group X".
I can't see any circumstances where you'd engage them in this discussion anyway. You're just an average joe right? How are you supposed to know most other mk7s have a box on the front, or what its significance to safety is, or that it affects insurance, or that the insurance company don't know about it? Its not your job to decide for them what insurance group your car should be in, thats their own system.
-
It'll work from the reg plate which will probably be in the insurance databases. they'll know they always do
-
It'll work from the reg plate which will probably be in the insurance databases. they'll know they always do
Yeah I know they can run the reg plate, I'm just saying I doubt there will be a separate category for "non ADC equipped Golf GTI". Do you think there will be? To my mind that would require a lot of awareness, foresight and planning for a relatively few numbers of cars. And who is going to be informing the insurers of which cars have ADC and which do not? They'd have to get the manufacturer to do that so further complication. I wonder if VW even have an easy to frequently access database that would contain such information. Its unlikely to be a priority for them. They must be able to get at that data but in a way that integrates easily with the insurers? I'm sceptical.
Chances are the costs involved with separating out the non-ADC cars from the ADC cars are larger than the potential additional income they would gain from doing that.
-
Can the ADC be turned off?
-
How ironic. I was driving down the M18 yesterday afternoon and went past a car transporter with a Mk7 GTi on the back in that very same blue. I spotted the GTi badge on the grille first as it was pointing backwards out of e back of the transporter. Otherwise, you could barely spot the red stripe. Liked those wheels though.
I would machine it had come off the boat at Hull so at least you boys know there's a supply of them coming into the country.
Me? 3 years yet before I'll be car shopping again.
-
I wonder if VW are putting out the demos in the colour they perceive to be unpopular for GTI/GTD hoping that maybe if people see them in the flesh they won't be limiting themselves to the most popular Tornado Red, Pure White, Carbon Grey and Deep Black Pearl.
-
Good find, I like the blue and like said before you would not think that the blue and red look ok together but looking at that I think it does as well.
Can't wait to see one in the flesh, although I must resist to buy haha
-
Well done! I think it looks great, especially in my chosen 3 door body. Not sure on the blue though.
-
Awesome pics fella.. Great spot! My colour too!!

Thanks for this, it's going to be all the car you ever need personified............for all of us getting one whatever the no. of doors or spec.
GOLF GTI the only hot hatch you can track in, drive to work, go on holiday and turn up to a true 5* hotel and look cool

Do you work at Pulman in Durham George??

Some very quick photos of first GTI demo car to arrive at my local dealer this morning... (Practically identical car as GerryD posted), but different dealer. Note no ADC radar box on lower grill!

Yeah it's encouraging to see demo cars filtering through. As for the blue colour, I never liked it previously and I don't like it now - just doesn't seem to suit the GTI in my eyes.
Regarding the lack of ADC on the front above, I thought I'd read around here that this was how demo cars were going to be built anyway?

Who's the dealer MKVIIGTD?

Looks like the RHD models don't get an aluminium footrest like the LHD ones too... balls.

Yeah I just noticed that too... Shame really, but finding a positive, it does balance out the look of the footwell being dark plastic either side of the pedals.

Phillips, Lisburn

I wouldn't take too much notice of the specs on these demos as they are different to retail models.

Howay George, get some photos in.

How do you know lovely person
Because they don't have the fancy sensor in the front grill where UK spec cars do, so who knows what else is missing.
-
I wouldn't expect an aluminium foot rest. They've had them in all the other incarnations of high spec VWs for LHD only. I had the MK5/MK6 pedal set put in my Scirocco and there is no part number for a RHD foot rest plate. Looking at some of the interior photos shown on this forum today, doesn't look like anything visually obvious is missing from UK spec apart from the ADC.

Tornado always looks good on a GTI, great post thanks.
-
George k: Thanks for the pics! Mick Stones at Sunderland branch reckons me and mcmaddy will be getting a drive of it next week when the Sunderland branch borrows it! I hope I don't like it too much to want a GTI over my ordered GTD, although mpg wise it'd not be a huge loss over what I am already getting with my 170TDI Roc (53.3mpg published combined).
-
Disappointing its got Dunlop boots

Nice pics George!
Looks like bit of a lottery with the tyres... I've seen Continentals, Pirelli's & now Dunlops!!!

I hear they are only using Dunlop on tornado red

Funny that... I've heard the same thing. Dunlops are only fitted to cars with standard paint. Everyone else will be getting Conti's or Pirelli's

It doesn't look like there is a front splitter similar to the mk6 and they have still made a poor effort on the side skirts.

 looks great thanks Sir.

If I do get my test drive in the Pulman GTI then hopefully i'll be able to pass judgement on the ride (if it doesn't have ACC) compared to my Roc (with ACC and also on 18" wheels) and decide whether it's a good £800 saved to do without.

Either way it's a moot comparison. The ride may be better/acceptable to you, but it's a whole new setup, so the only meaningful comparison would be GTI with and without ACC.

And ideally a blind test.
EDIT:
However, we're still desperate to hear how you find it MH. I guess if its less than you expect and doesn't have ACC that would be somewhat useful to know!
-
Cars are to everyones individual tastes and therefore subjective. What I like in mine may not be liked by you in yours. Its all part of the rich tapestry of life :nerd:
-
I would consider it a waste of money (for me) if the standard ride is as compliant as ACC in Sport mode (where my ACC spends most of it's time). Sport mode on my Roc is fine for me and making it any softer is something I only do when there is the risk of a pothole.
If it's any harsher then ACC might be money well spent after all. If I had back issues or there were always back seat passengers I might've considered it anyway.
-
Ive had back trouble for years so the heated seats and the acc hopefully will make my driving experience much nicer
-
Thing is as well, not selecting it is not actually a saving at all. It's like me saying I've saved £1600 or whatever by not getting leather, and a further grand by not choosing the pro nav!

Thanks for the welcome.
It was White Rose VW in West Yorkshire.

Great spot, really like the red

Hey,
Thanks for the photos, I have ordered a 3 door in red and was starting to doubt myself about the red or the white, but that looks brilliant, so pleased I went with the red!
Cheers,
Phil

I'll post one of one of my neighbours new MK7 GTI. Unsure how he got it so quick?

Is he a dealer then? Nice pics, interestingly again it's up North that's having all the fun

Ha, is he one of the Pulman managers? Was it mcmaddy went to see a red GTI and they told him a manager was borrowing it for the weekend? Such assholes some of these dealers. If they worked for me that would be a reprimand. Using your job for personal gain at the expense of customers... An instant dismissal would be justified if your boss decided he wanted to do that!
-
Am I missing something here? Adam has a neighbour that has just got a GTI and Adam's location is "Hampshire". I wouldn't consider that "North" to anyone except maybe a Channel Islands resident. Looks like the South are getting a few of their own.
-
I'm still not feeling the the red. :(

I'm still not feeling the the red. :(
Same here. When I see pictures of it I do think it looks good. But, in the flesh, and on a GTI with red accents...nah, doesn't do it for me at all. Thinking about it, there aren't too many cars out there that I'd ever consider owning in red.

I see what you're up to . Getting all those who ordered TR to change their order to bump them down the queue and you up it!
Maybe it's a GTI thing, the lack of red accent for a GTD might suit it more if you're worried about losing it in a sea of red. White is not an option for me - far too many white cars out there of all marques although I cannot deny the GTI looks good in white. If you could get a crap repelling coating for the black i'd have maybe stuck with it or perhaps the Carbon Grey (although the black detailing is lost a bit). Getting a Tornado red all glossed up properly with some decent wax/polish will show it off to it's best abilities - the dealership demo pics here have done it no favours.
Some cars just don't look right in red, needs to be a small car or a medium car with small car proportions (like the Golf is - no disproportionately long bonnet etc - it has the silhouette of a small car, scaled up). There is an A5 in bright red in the next street to me and it looks sh!te - take the same car in dark grey metallic and it looks amazing.

I agree, Tornado tempted me for a while and I still think it looks really good. I walk past some old guys house, he has a boggo 62 reg Polo but he's obviously into detailing and it looks stunning in both sunshine and a dull weather. A dirty or neglected red car looks pants, but one that's looked after can look outstanding.

Damn, I've been rumbled!
True, there are a lot of white cars out there, but I've been a fan of white cars way before they became the new fashion! Like you, if black could have magic coating that repelled dirt and made washing it easier, I'd take that for a change no problem.
Yep, you're absolutely right - the style, shape and purpose of a car really does determine what colours suit it best.
-
Hello all, I went into a VW dealer yesterday near Basingstoke and they have a white 3 door with nav and winter pack. I'm not usually a fan of white but I have to say, it looks fantastic. Those who have ordered one will not be disappointed... I could even be tempted myself.

Nice one, never had any doubts over my colour choice! Was hands-down the easiest decision of the whole spec, right up there with 5 doors and being manual.

That's "Flash Red" on the Polo, it's a slightly orangier (?) shade of red, just as bright as Tornado and I think it looks great. Salsa Red on the Scirocco on the other hand I think is awful. Bright red or no red for me, really don't like the darker shades heading towards burgandy territory.

Yeah flash, quite similar to tornado IMO, bright. Salsa red is piss poor.

Haha, I'm the exact opposite. I don't like the bright reds, if I had to have red, or any other colour, I'd opt for a dark version!
As an example:
I wonder why anyone would do that when virtually any other colour would be 1 million times better! Even worse when its a bog standard Fiesta or Polo, then you don't even have the prestige of the vehicle to fall back on! hehe
That said I do love to see TR GTIs, they look cool. And some colours suit some cars. Mazdas just seem to fit the bright green colour Mazda do. Likewise the Focus ST/RS in bright green seems 'right' even if the colour seems 'wrong' in general. Not saying I'd pick these myself, but I like to see them on other people's cars!
-
There are only two cars that can legitimately pull off Red. One is a Ferrari, the other a Golf GTI
The red always looks much better in the flesh too, so eye catching and one of the signature colours IMO.
That said I'd always go for Grey. Real shame there's no Steel Grey anymore.
-
I'm the same Bear, would go for a darker red if that were going to be my colour of choice.
Funny you should mention about the colour of other peoples cars. We were out for a walk on Monday and parked up nearby we passed quite a few cars, quite a few of which were a focus of some model. One was an RS in green, another a pagan gold/green, and a red candy. We commented how they all looked good, but how we wouldn't want them for ourselves!
A lot of it is to do with how you would feel about putting up with something on an ongoing basis. I'd happily drive around in a Tornado Red GTI for the weekend, but wouldn't want to own one that colour.

Funny enough, I feel exactly the same about the white!
-
That red MK7 doesn't look great to me either...
Having said that, a mate of mine has an Edition 30 in Tornado red and its absolutely stunning. He minds it like a baby and its one hell of an eye catching car. I had a "blue graphite" MKV GTI, a rare enough colour, which didn't photograph very well at all. Always looked more Elephant grey in photos! But in bright sunshine after it was waxed it looked absolutely stunning too.
You really need to see the car in good lighting conditions to make up your mind on a colour.

Just drove past Vindis Cambridge on my lunch break and spotted the very tip of a GTI body kit sticking out of a line of cars. Quick 180 and I snapped the below pics while having a very silly grin on my face.

Chap said they are one of the first dealers to get one (believe it?) and that they had no control over the spec at all. He said they had taken 15 orders already (believe it?) and that an order now could take up to 20weeks/5months. They're not supposed to offer test drives until the launch but he said serious people can have one now. I was having fun reving it when he said I could have a drive now, but sadly I was due back in work. Might head down Saturday, although apparently there will be quite a crowd!

Nice pics Bear. Red and white seem to be the order of the day for demo models. Would so like to see pics of a black one

I work just around the corner from there... time for a stroll

If you want to drive it I'd give them a call first. Chap I spoke to was Jack and he said he's already booked in "several" people for Saturday. Might be sales tactics but would hate for you to drive all the way up here and find its out all day...
-
Funny enough, I feel exactly the same about the white!
... and herein lies the beauty of choice! ;)
Nice pics by the way Bear...shame it's red though! Just kidding

Exactly, I almost commented that it matched them perfectly myself! haha. Fortunately at my work they don't really care how I dress so long as everything is done on time.
It was a real mistake going to see that car though. I can't stop thinking about it now. Totally distracted and just want to go back and sit in it all day.
This is not good for my mental health.

Not the same company as you so you are ok
Might have to get a demo once you eventually get your car

Even when my dealership gets a demonstrator, I'm not sure I'll bother. I know it will be stunning to look at, drive better than what I have now, and only make me want it more!

Lusting after a car that you have no control over when you'll get it, and having a test drive in something that we already know is great, isn't any better for the state of mental health!
-
I'm not sure I would have been able to to turn down a test drive. Quite how you did Bear is beyond me, you have far greater mental strength than me!
-
Guys, I'm off to see a GTI. Will try and take pics. Dunno if I can test drive it cos apparently it is still being PDI'd. Let's see.

Chap said they are one of the first dealers to get one (believe it?) and that they had no control over the spec at all.
FYI. When I worked as a junior salesman for BMW back in the day - This was normally the case for brand new models. You get what you're given and deal with it. They usually consist of an easy to sell colour and a few of the options boxes ticked.
This was also echo'd by the sales manager of my VW garage a couple of weeks ago when I went in.
-

As at other dealers one of the "managers" is driving it. The dealer is open until 6pm and I don't get off work until 6... I could bunk off but I strongly suspect the manager will be driving it home at about 5 based on what the chap I was talking to was saying.
Also I didn't have my license on me.

Been out GTI spotting again and found a Grey one.
This one has already been on another thread so can't claim to be the first to photograph it:

Not sure if it's Carbon Grey as it's still not on the configurator.

OK well I did get to see the car. And I got to DRIVE IT for 20 mins!! Too good! Just wow! Loved it!
It was a standard 220hp version but was plenty quick.
But it's put a spanner in the works for me. For the following reasons.
1. I can't believe how sexy night blue looks. So much so that I'm thinking about this colour seriously now.
2. I was gonna go for 5 door, but damn does the 3 door look nice in the flesh.
3. Ordered it in DSG but when I drove the manual it felt very nice. Not sure now.
4. Wasn't going to get the ACC, but this car had it and although i couldn't tell the difference between modes that much, I'm wondering if having it made the car drive better anyway cos of the self adjusting dampers.
Verdict: Car is everything I expected. But now I'm more confused than ever about the spec!
Also, funny thing happened at the dealership. Whilst I was waiting for the car to finish the PDI, I realised it had come when all of a sudden I heard sales staff saying "whoa... that's sexy, looks awesome" and there was a real buzz of excitement around the dealership.

1. I like the Night Blue, would be very happy with it, but still think the White brings out the GTi lines and features best.
2. My last 2 cars have been 3 door, both look great! but cannot state enough what a royal pain getting passengers in and out is, and 5 door is something I personally am going to enjoy having and to add think the MK7 genuinely holds its lines well in 5 door
3. DSG was only thing that wife would not move on, she loves it and as it has paddles and option to shift from stick then it caters for times I want to take over.
4. I left off ACC originally but more I read on the new v.2 ACC and how it is active on each wheel then more I was convinced on UK roads it was a must have - Ride on my S Line is harsh at times so think I crave comfort more than most here though!
Thing I took from your mini review, is if that is what is bothering you most then that says a lot for how rest and most important things ticked all boxes to not be mentioned negatively.

Thanks for the feedback mjh.
I'm going to drive a MK6 GTI DSG tomorrow. See what it's like. Just need to see if I'll miss the rewarding feel of manual. I live in London, a lot of stop start traffic can be a pain.
I think I should look at a 5 door before deciding. I agree it does hold its lines well, so did the MK 6 5 door GTI I think. 90% of my driving is on my own. But when it does have passengers it will be a pain I guess.
Was going to choose white. But I really need to see one in person. Probably will go for black in the end though.

Not a very good PDI done as still got transport covers on and looks like transport blocks still in front struts. Be careful if you drive that as will be extremely harsh ride

Why harsh?
Transport blocks stop the suspension compressing so it doesn't bounce on the transporter.
-
Harsh as blocks stop car bouncing on transporter so very very stiff. Odd how plates are on, normally done at PDI

Ye maybe. I was waiting for half an hour. I think they just bought it in for me to drive.

Maybe that's why I couldn't feel difference between ACC modes?

Did it still have all the wrapping on? If not then it's been pdi'd

Sorry guys, its only a 30 sec video taking ages to upload on youtube :( Won't be long now.

Yes it did have the wrapping on. Wasn't ready by all means.

It can be quite dangerous driving a car that's not been prepped properly for road

My driving is mixed can do long motorway run one day, town next and then be parked on M25 to finish (you know what I mean!) so DSG really works for me and the times I do get to enjoy some lanes it will be into sport & paddles :)
About 40% of time I have passengers, so it is a bigger issue for me and seemingly more so recently and every time someone moans I say "I am getting a 5 door next time" - Attempting to get in a 3 door Golf R last weekend convinced me this choice is right for me.
My previous was Phantom Black and present is Brilliant Black A3 and they look amazing when have the full TLC treatment but get dusty and dirty very quick and bird mess really stands out! Think the white though obviously will get dirty will manage it better - Love them photos by way, that blue with red GTi accents work well.
Everyone view on here is personal except for maybe some of the more technical posts so you doing the right thing totally in going out and seeing and trying for self and be interesting to see what finally spec.

Damn. And it was wet

I have a driving video too. Will try to upload that one soon.
Here's is a short clip of the dealership's designated driver taking the car back after my test drive. He was really spanking the car earlier lol. He said it's one of the best cars he's driven and definitely the best golf he's ever driven.
I love the reverse light design on the gti. Love the sound it makes as he pulls out.

I'll probably be worse when i see mine

I like that they've put a reversing light on both sides. The brightness of the single bulb in the Mk6 is completely useless!

master_hayabusa - is that Citygate Colindale? If so, I'm due to take my Mark 6 there next Tuesday for some work...I'm not really supposed to be looking to upgrade this early but if I'm there...

Also weird alien time dilation effects going on at the start of that video...

Yes I see what you mean. Sorry this was my first ever upload on you tube and it said I should remove the shaking. That's what caused it. I've undone the change it has reverted back to the original video.
I do have more videos from the inside though. It's of the drive. It's pretty shaky though. Dealer was like "what the...you making a video? You gonna put it on youtube?" and then she just laughed. She was pretty cool about it all though. I'll try to post the clip.

Great vids, good work chaps! Makes it seem more "real" when you watch a non edited, non review video!

I'll post one of one of my neighbours new MK7 GTI. Unsure how he got it so quick?
Bloody Hell that is quick!! What colour has he got?
Red. It does look tasty.

It was a real mistake going to see that car though. I can't stop thinking about it now. Totally distracted and just want to go back and sit in it all day.
This is not good for my mental health.
My dealer won't be getting their demo till mid June. As a result of this, and your post yesterday Bear, I cannot resist going up to see this motor this afternoon as Saturday is too far away!!

Maybe he painted the exterior white to get an awesome contrast with the GTI? Sure looks immense in that photo. Do we know if it's owned or borrowed from dealership?

Just popped down to my local dealer to see their demo.
Red five door manual with cloth and expensive nav, keyless etc.
No sales guys around so didn't get to chat about it with anyone.
It was parked next to a mk6 Cabrio and the thing I noticed most about it was that the wheels look lost in the arches compared to the mk6. The details on the car look nice. Still think I prefer the looks of my mk6 and the colour too.

The more I see TR, the more I don't like it! Not keen on there being an actual cigarette lighter in there either, rather than a nice sprung cover like in my mates Focus... Other than that, great pics! ;)

The wheels/arches look pretty much like for like with the MK6 IMO, remember these demos will need to settle a little on their springs. Thanks for the pics

Is there a noticeable suspension 'lift' from Sport - Standard to Comfort mode as that does look more lifted than others seen?
Is the lighter a smoker pack option? think it is which means should get a covered socket instead?
Most Tornado Red seen look like needs a good shine!
-
suspension doesn't have adjustable ride height just adjustable shock absorbers if it's got acc.
-
Is the lighter a smoker pack option? think it is which means should get a covered socket instead?
I had a MKVII S as a hire car without the smokers pack and it just had a cheapish plastic plug in the scoket instead of the lighter (looked like a lighter)

So glad i ordered White, what a filthy looking b!tch
I wanted to take some 'everyday use' pictures. Not showroom shine ones. We can all see those in the marketing brochures.
-
Trust me. I know what white looks like, my last three cars have been white. What irritates me about white is that you can't see when it's really clean and well detailed. At least with red you can. I've only seen a few pics of tornado red that make it look the way it should and that's on a cookng mk 7.
Here's one which looks cool:

IN TRUTH, I really like the white, I just need a change!

I know what you mean. White is a colour that will never look as good as red or black after a detail. It's similar to silver in that respect. But if you're a lazy arse like me it's a practical choice. Although I may still go for black ;)
-
Indeed, red is prone to swirling, but using a glaze that is full of fillers and designed for red makes upkeep of a perfect red finish easy for lazyarses like me. Prima Amigo does this.... Autoglym SRP is a good, easily obtainable alternative!
-
I really like the white... But there have been a few pics of the blue (night blue?) and I'm kinda tempted to switch. Oh dammit, I had my mind made up on the white, most often when a car turns my head it is white, but that blue looks so good. Urgh. Advice?

You need to see them in person. That's all I can advise. See all the colours that you're thinking about. However, most demos are in either red, white or night blue. Call around, just don't go by the pictures. So far I've seen a 3 door night blue and a 5 door pure white. Both looked fantastic.
-
Really? Just stick to your original decision! Dark metallic colours are a real pain to look after. I had a Golf Mk 4 GT TDI in black metallic that the supplying dealer had prepped with a cloth which had been dampened and dipped in sand. No matter what i did, it never looked any good after that!
-
White is the best colour for gtd and gti's. red looked ok but you lose all the little details that really show up with the white. if white is detailed properly it looks fantastic.
-
VW use white in all the literature and ads say no more
-
Bear: if it helps, when I was looking at an A3 instead of the Golf, I was 100% sure it was going to be Scuba blue, as I see photos in the sun and it looked stunning.
However, when I eventually saw one at the dealers under a typical grey leaden UK sky, it looked just like a plain old dark blue, certainly nothing like the beautiful shimmering blue in the photos I'd seen. As the weather in the UK's normally crap, I just wonder if you would get the full advantage of it very often ?

OK here's a video of the 5 door GTI DSG I test drove-today. It's a very short video of the dealer driving off and then parked up. Sorry about the shaky camera.

Excellent pics! The red stripe on the inside of the door - is that a light??
-
Nice pics, ive been waiting for some of the cabin at night, especially the red stripe
-
Very nice pictures. I must say the red does look good

Yes, it is a light. It looks excellent.

That was very same TR GTI put photos up on last Sunday when visited MK it had only just arrived and was still in need of a good shine!
Your review was great and my S Line is fidgety in its permanent sport set up on town roads with all pits and pot holes so good to read my taking option of ACC for towns will make a noticeable difference.
-
Some great pics there mate! The footwell lights don't look very bright, i wonder if thats just due to them being LED's or whether the brightness was turned down a bit? Either way the interior looks so nice and fresh lit up in the crisp white!
-
Nice pics mate, love the red lighting touches they've done to the GTI

Lol, I had to kill the background wind noise so I picked up a random instrumental offered by youtube :) ain't that bad though.

I didn't really look at what the footwell lights were set to as there was so much to take in. But I did notice that the interior lights in the roof weren't particularly bright either with a very narrow dispersal.
Saying that there are a number of things that are customisable so maybe you can adjust to suit. I did notice that there is no red mood lighting shining down onto the gear stick which means you can't see any writing on it. Maybe there wasn't enough in the budget after the light on the door

Thats a shame, i'm sure i've read that there is an "ambient" light in the centre arm rest?? ???

Yes, it is a light. It looks excellent.
Loving the night time pics.
Is that light a GTI only thing? Or do us GTD peons get a white equivalent? Also was that the pro nav or normal nav?

That was normal nav, but the card wasn't in it so I can't give you an opinion on it.
I have no idea about the red light, whether that's just a GTI thing. Would be a shame because it really sets off the cabin.

I believe it's only a GTI feature. Discussed here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=251691.0

The GT and GTD gets white ambient lights in the doors, not sure about the sills though?

Sorry I meant the 'red' light is a GTI feature.

Cool...
The following link seems to suggest that the GT has the door light in white which means the GTD should have it as well. Thought there would be someone out there with GT to confirm though but couldn't find anything.

You would think so but the GT has Nav as standard and the GTI and GTD don't.
-
Guess we won't know for sure until someone has one in their hands espicially with the ballsups on the configurator but in the price list for GTD it list things as in addition to GT. in the ICE section it list the std composite media so hence we know we don't get the Sat Nav. No changes under comfort and convenience - only additions eg 2 zone climate change.
There's a VW vid of the ambient lighting here which confirms the white stripe on door:

that looks fantastic. pleased I've gone with white. some cars just look great in white and the golf is one of them.
-
Very nice indeed. But what's it doing in a park?
Used it as a goal post while I had a quick game footie with my son before we took it back to the dealer

I don't see the dealer in your pics, is he standing with you or did they let you take it out alone? How long did you get to play?
-
Looks fantastic.
What tyres did it have?
-
Have to say I didn't notice what tyres it had. But I did love the wheels, I nearly ordered the 19" alloys but I'm glad I stuck with 18's, there is a slight dish to them that looks just great.
Turned up at the dealer at 3.00pm and was out in the car by 3.05pm. Just me and my 10 year old son. Told to take as long as I like. I was out for about an hour.
Interesting to hear the dealer say that they didn't know exactly when they would get their own demonstrator, he described this car as a British spec German car (it was right hand drive of course). I guess it was built before they were officially building for right hand drive markets?

Test drive on your own? That must have been nice. Wish all dealers were like this.

I'm sure UK cars will all come with Dunlop's.

Great post, wonder which lucky bugger that belongs to.
-
Dunlops on 19", there's hope for the standard 18"ers yet. Lucky fookers That must have been built prior to week 22 to be here just into week 23 surely?
-
From what I could tell it was built 23 may
-
Sure this isn't another demo? I know it has the radar but... seems really early delivery. Its only Tuesday in wk23 so must have been one of the very very first built I guess.
EDIT:
From what I could tell it was built 23 may
Hmm... thats wk21 though. Strange.
-
That looks like someone's car to me as it has the ADC. Lucky f7cker!!
-
Well what could a week 21 GTI that could be a demo spec be missing that a week 22 wont? Does it have a colour MFD? You could order ADC and colour MFD as extras on a pre-week 22 car, but if this is a bona-fide week 21 full UK spec car then it would seem that VW UK has bullsh!tted us all again with the "no UK customer cars to be build before MY14" line.
-
That looks like someone's car to me as it has the ADC. Lucky f7cker!!
lol
-
This does have colour screen and is a MY14
-
I can't believe it's a customer's. Just too early.
-
Could well be a MY14.
If you look at the Vin on the second picture you will see it says "E" on the 8th last digit.
Our mark 6 is MY10 and has an "A" in that position on the VIN.
It is also the 2428th car out of Wolfsburg.
-
Someone knows chassis numbers
-
I can't believe it's a customer's. Just too early.
You are believing (the apparently clueless) VW UK. Of course it could be a customer car. Irish customer cars are arriving into dealers now and they've been available to customers for a while across other markets.
-

Ireland is not in the UK.
I say it's unlikely because when I placed my original order with my dealer, he said it was the first one he had and was quoted July/August. Found out later it was going to be September. There just can't be that much of a gap between dealers.
And as soon as I say this there is a 'Mine's Arrived'! thread. Its all c**k really!
-
this car at Pulman Durham not only blows what VW UK have been telling us but also what myself and monkeyhanger were told by Pulman Sunderland. also the fact it appears slightly non standard with the wheels would suggest that vw UK know absolutely fu** all about build weeks and have more than likely been taking the pi** from day one!
-
I can't believe it's a customer's. Just too early.
If it is a customers then VW have been bullish!tting the lot of us.
