As per the title was hoping after sorting the rear discs and pads and handbrake last week that the light would go out after releasing the handbrake erm nope  also the abs light fails to illuminate to is this going to be down to a fault on the abs system?
-
Common prob with Mk3's
-
Yep handbrake light is linked to abs.
I thought when handbrake light stays on that a rear abs sensor is at fault. But I remember someone saying its the pump. :undecided:

Thanks bud  scanned it earlier and all four sensors were showing a fault code  looks like have to bite the bullet and fit all four

cheers Tweed, been looking into it on here and i thgought that but as said in my prev reply i scanned it earlier and looks like all four are no good fitted new rings on the rear hubs last week to wish i had changed the rears then  but wanted to be certain via vag com which ones were no good, another job added
-
Looks like this will be coming in handy :grin:http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=204972.0

Re-fit ABS bulb.... this should come on on turning the ignition on... if not then bulb is broken or removed....
If all 4 sensors show in fault log then I would get suspicious.... before you remove them check they don't work with a mini DSO or if you don't have anything like it then use a LED test lamp
-
If you had one rear sensor out you swap the plug under the seat with the other side scan with vag com if the abs sensor didnt change to the other side the pump has gone i had to change my pump as it had a smashed abs bulb when i bought it if it turns out to be your pump i bought mine from stevens vw dismantler 35 pound and has been working for 7 months so far
-
Have you done a live test on them to see if they are showing what speed they read? Dont just replace them all if they all show a fault. My abs light was on a few weeks ago. Diagnostic showed rear sensor i unplugged it, replugged it and cleared the fault and it started to work fine. The abs light went off.
-
I believe that the light in question is also linked to the fluid level, check and make sure the plunger on the cap is not stuck down.

my abs pump went dead i had no handbrake light come up (not that every symptom is the same) take the advice from above about the level also have a look at the hand brake switch but the abs issue probarly is seperate from the hand brake light dont quote me on that but im sure its has no link to the abs system as the pump only takes information from the wheel sensors

Cheers wayne i read that previous on here and already ruled that out as i fitted a new cap the other week and the plunger is free

No worries, I had the same issue with mine.
Might be worth checking the handbrake switch and wiring

Thanks bud :afro: and thanks to everyone for their helpful replies too
well looked into it earlier tonight and removed the airbag/abs warning light module and unclipped apart so as to check for the suggestion of the abs bulb being blown (thanks for that advise ) and when plugged in airbag bulb illuminates and no the abs one doesn't  so after getting the part number and not even ringing vw as i know they can be up to £100 !! i found a 6 pin unit on e-bay  1H2 919 235T mine ends in s but apparently 'T' replaces this part,so will use the bulb unit from that  also re-scanned tonight for fault codes after wiping them and here's whats come up:-
(http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr22/mjwvag20vt/Mk3%20Golf%20GTi/VagComScan15042013.png)
(http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr22/mjwvag20vt/Mk3%20Golf%20GTi/VagComAutoScan15042013.png) (http://s466.photobucket.com/user/mjwvag20vt/media/Mk3%20Golf%20GTi/VagComAutoScan15042013.png.html)
Well looks like the airbag code was due to battery disconnection and only one sensor seems to be at fault so will fit a new sensor and see what happens

-
I hope its just a sensor to mate i done the same as you i bought another light unit from ebay i unsoldered the airbag bulb and soldered it onto my unit you will be better of with the airbag bulb as mk3 are more known to have abs issues than airbag so it wouldnt have spent alot of time illuminated and should last longer

:afro: cheers bud i hope its just this sensor now will price some up  light unit was reasonable so hopefully get that this week then fingers crossed
-
Abs/airbag light unit arrived today and is the same part number as the original :afro: plugged it in to try and working abs light stays on  two new front sensors arrived today too,so hoping to get fitted tommorrow morning after work
-
Well Fitted two new front sensors and found one reason why the fault, upon removing the nsf wheel i had a quick look over and realised the tip of the sensor was shot and there was No abs ring only the 3 securing bolts   so after some thought i ended up at a breakers to find a new bottom hub  so the sensor change took longer than planned and cost more  driveshaft was a pain to slide out all finished and....................hey ho abs light and handbrake warning light still on after roadtest  scan showing nsr is faulty now ffs!
-
Looks like still a dodgy ecu. I think every one you will buy will have some kind of fault. Usually it's common to have rear sensor fault

now do this under the rear seat u will see 2 plugs they are were the abs sensor joins undo both plugs and plug the n/s into o/s and o/s into n/s plug ur car into vag com if the abs is still reading the n/s sensor ur ecu is dead this is a 100% working method to diagnose the abs pump if it says o/s now ur sensor needs changing

Cheers :afro: checked this earlier and vag-com still reads near side sensor  been searching for and abs pump/ecu and located a couple with the same part number as my unit, for reasonable £££ hopefully i get one and then get fitted and hopefully no more abs faults :lipsrsealed:
-
U can fit it yourself its not that hard but i only reccomend a snap on brake pipe spanner as there old brake pipes now

Cheers tshirt had a read of one of the previous abs faults you replied to and decided today after another check confirms the ecu could well be the problem i have ordered another unit same part number,i had a unit that came with the car  wrong part number tho so undid the ecu on that earlier now i'm thinking could i just remove the ecu from under the pump unit and put on the ecu from new unit or would it be best just fitting the whole new unit?
looking to fit it myself will have to get a snap on brake pipe spanner for the job
-
I would only reccomend changing the whole unit to guarantee to fix your problem
-
You can remove just the ecu so brake pipes can stay connected so no need to bleed, just bend them out the way a little
-
You can remove just the ecu so brake pipes can stay connected so no need to bleed, just bend them out the way a little
not worth it if a pipe snaps youve got to replace a brake line

It is worth it. You won't break the lines and its nort worth changing the whole pump unless the bolts holding the ecu are rusted and can't be undone. So your recommendation is going to cause the OP more work than is necessary.
Also who's to say, the whole new (second hand) unit won't be broken?
As I said earlier, most units you buy secondhand will probably have a fault on them anyway
-
tshirt2k is it you who is handy with a soldering iron and can fix the ECUs? Mine is definitely faulty...get an intermittant OSR sensor fault, same code even when swapping over sensor wires under the seats.
-
Fairly handy. Pm me if you like.
-
ive said before on another post but, send the ecu off to bba reman, make an offer on ebay for 90 quid and they come pick your ecu up, fix it with a life time guarantee and send it back, then you know for sure its fixed and if anything else plays up you know its most likly to just be a sensor.

Cheers for all your help/advise :afro: i shall remove the ecu i had a look earlier and the bolts aren't to bad shall have to see if fitting the secondhand unit hopefullly solves the fault,if not 'tshirt2k' will most likely be getting a pm  seems like your handy with fixing ecu faults :afro:
-
You will need an E5 socket to remove the ecu.
-
I will be PMing you in a few days too once I've got my hands on the correct socket, Halfords Pro tool kit only starts at E10!
-

Nice one :afro: well handy to know i'll pop into a local tool place and get one then
** Just ordered one online be here friday
-
ive only red ur post, none of the replies tho. ive had both ur probs when i had anmk3 8v, hand brake light stayed on when brake released, this too happened after getting new rear brake bits fitted , all it was was there was dirt on the hand brake sensor. If ur abs lite isnt lighting up at all its because its been on for agood length of time and the little bulb thing soldered in to the circuit board has burnt out due to been consantly on .
-
Replacement abs ecu not yet turned up  scanned it tonight and now the fault code is 01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64) 16-00 - Signal Outside Specifications
-
How much did u pay for abs module
-
How much did u pay for abs module
decided as the replacement hasn't turned up that i ordered same part number pump/ecu last night from steven's dismantlers was £30 inc delivery  my units 1H2 614 117B ecu 3A0 907 379 if my original order turns up i'll be selling that
-
Thts were i got my pump from its got 90 day guarantee but if you take the ecu off the bottom no guarantee
-

Might keep that as a spare then :undecided: the company i bought the first one from rang me earlier and its at a local depot as the courier driver couldn't find my address  hopeful of delivery tommorrow  now they know where to be
-
Unit i ordered saturday turned up earlier  just fitted it and suprise suprise abs light and handbrake light still on quick scan and Now this

i give up!!
-
Didnt i say most replacement units will be duff?
-
The one i bought off stevens vw worked perfect for me try that one as its 90 day guarantee they must know it works and its still working 5 months later

cheers bud that's the ecu i took off and fitted to my pump already
-
might sound stupid but did you clear all the codes after fitting the new stuff??
-
You dont even need to clear the codes i didnt need to but i scanned with vagcom all codes dissapeard im sorry to hear about the abs ecu i hope you get it sorted mate

Cheers mate another one turned up too so two spares  going to take the original fitted one apart i think and have a look got until july for the mot to sort this
-
You do need to clear codes. Even once repaired the codes stay on. They may clear after a drive but initially, code will still be there.
-
Yes agreed about clearing codes but in my case they just vanished most garages dont even realise the abs is not working on a mk3 if its not fixed by mot take the plug out of the back of the holder and put the face back onit most garages wont realise it but some can thts a last resort option
-
Well after sorting the ecu fault code,i opted to also change the rear lh sensor as that came up,ecu seems okay no fault shown and i have soldered my original unit and same result, fitted rear lh sensor a few mins ago and finally handbrake warning light is now out  but shows rear rh sensor now  will get a sensor fitted and fingers crossed this sorts the abs light.

Recently did mine due to RH sensor showing constant fault, light did not go out with new sensor and ring.....
Fitted new LH sensor and ring, bingo

:afro: good to hear new rings on my rear hubs too will get a sensor on monday and get it fitted all four will be new then.
-
Decided i would fit a new osr abs sensor and then all 4 have been replaced  luckily i rang local eurocarparts this morning and they had one in stock  been over and fitted it on the car fitted my new airbag/abs light unit (finally) and quick drive down the road and..............finally abs light went out :afro: checked and cleared old fault code and issue now resolved.

A mk3 with working ABS
Your in a rare group............
But not for very long
Eicher sensors sold by GSF and Europarts are turd, they swell up and let in water.
You can make them last a little longer by relieving the hole they fit so they just drop in, but they eventually fail.
The left rear on mine was only 18 months old
We will see how long mine lasts this time
