Title: Tips required on shutting the woman up/keeping her happy.(Sick of car talk)
Post by: LowlifeDubber on 07 September 2012, 08:10
Right so the missus has been going on at me this morning about all i ever do is talk or work on cars.Im in the middle of a project and granted it is taking a lot of my time up.
I work the weekend shift (36hours sat-sun)but when i get up monday lunch after the night shift i have the rest of the week to my self.
During this week she will have a day or 2 off work but if im not working on my own car im fixing someone elses as this helps pay for a very expensive hobby/build.

Apparently cars "consume" my life and she feels left out,ive also had the "you love your car more than me" line.
Now i am very driven i have goals and i can easily spend 12 hours a day in the garage. But every now and again i will have a full day off and we will go out somewhere.
However apparently i always seem to bring cars/engines into most conversations.Shes getting sick of it and says i dont even know im doing it.
If im not in the garage im online researching the best route to take with the VRT im building.
Does anyone have the same problem?Or have some tips to keep her happy?
Im a bit of a workaholic but i stopped contracting so i could have a decent relationship and im home every night.Im not one to sit and spend time watching tv as i have to multi task and have something to feed my brain.

I keep telling her she needs to get a hobby, something i can take an interest in with her but she doesnt know what she wants to do.

Im guessing its all my fault. But any tips would be appreciated.

It didnt help that i jokingly posted this on her facebook this morning.

You can't reason with the unreasonable, woman are just wired up wrong! Fact!

They need something to moan about, if you didn't work on cars it would be something else!

 To be fair she doesnt moan too much, she tries to take an interest and came to UD with me this year.Meets are a no go.I see lots of other guys with their missus at meets and wish she would take a bit more of an interest like them.Granted half of them look bored to tears sat in the passenger seat on their phones. But i need someone to pass me jelly babies while im driving so want her to come.

The little things go a loooong way mate. Try flowers once a week, doesn't have to be flashy, it's the thought that counts. Breakfast in bed once in a while or a spontaneous trip to the cinema to see Her choice of film. Make an effort to give her a massage, foot rub whatever she wants, even if it's only once a week, after all what's an hour a week. Tell her she's beautiful every day. Make a conscious effort not to talk about cars, when you're not working on them. If you really do spend all that time working on them, then to her any time spent away from the garage is sacred and you should try to make it just that. It would be a different story altogether if the extra work you were doing, was to put put toward a combined end result for both you and YOUR partner, but it's not, it's for your own project build....that must make her sick.

Hopefully some of that helps fella.

Now f**k off and go and MOT out your ball and chain.

pmsl.Cheers mate, some good advice there. If i get her flowers it always makes me feel like im trying too hard though.
Her front pipe is blowing on her car atm.To me,being thoughfull is buying her a new one and fitting it.Maybe im just wired up all wrong. :undecided:
I tell her nice things most days.Just to keep her sweet.I take her to the cinema every now and again and we ALWAYS watch what she wants.(Read:Me having to sit through 3 hours of Titanic in 3d and Harry Potter and wanting to kill myself)
Took her out yesterday to a museum thing up the road which she liked. Then took her out for a meal.

See,im not all bad.

I havnt really got time to MOT her out atm as im just about to start gasket matching my cylinder head.

So you can remedy her front pipe that's blowing, but you can MOT her out. Sounds like the same thing to me.

Maybe you should tell her, you REALLY want to help improve yourself and your relationship and can she give you any hinters, because it's been playing on your mind that you cant autonomously think of anything yourself and it's making you depressed thinking she's unhappy. She is your world! Throw in some crocodile tears for good measure and she will be noshing your old chap before you know it....BONUS or should that be BONER!

Hmmm I will give it a go but I don't really do emotion.
I think there's more chance of her fixing her own front pipe than me getting noshed off atm though.

From the stories you have said, i can see why.

Remember that canvas you were supposed to get, you know of the both of you.. but instead you have a picture of a lovely Mk3 now.. Well go do that for her as a suprise.

Also, tell her you've been having an affair for the last 2 years and have a child. Say you are being taken to court for 10k of unpaid child support. Then tell her you are joking and is spending time under your car really that bad? She might see things differently..

I haunt got many decent pics of us both as I had to delete a lot to fit build thread pics on my spare drive.
700 pics of the build and 5pics of us both together.
Think she might have a point
She won't believe the affair story as I don't have time for one.
Good shout though lol

all you have to say is "its my way or the highway *bi7ch"

If she choses the highway then engage plan b and grovel like a bi7ch yourself. Its a win win in my book  :smug:

Sounds to me like you have a "moaner"....

If it wasn't cars she is moaning about it would be something else...

You Work hard and earn the money to do the car and I guess you aren't asking her to stump up cash for parts....

I would tell her to like it or lump it and I guess she knows where the front door is and she can make here way out of it....

Haha I feel your pain, missus says shes happy I've refound my passion for cars and all but feels i'm "working" too much. I keep telling her that working on the car is like my form of TV but she doesnt quite get it . . . I also try to get her involved, if theres a problem I'm trying to solve I bounce ideas off her Dr House style, works a treat for my thought process but she says she just finds it boring as she has no idea what I'm talking about! Even she says she wants to find a hobby but cant think of anything that would be as time consuming as my car!

A woman that moans about a mans hobby is a woman that doesnt understand their man in my opinion of women.
end of the day what do we put up with? constant clothes and shoe buying and them dragging us around, waiting for them to put on make up before we go out and the ever lasting need for attention because otherwise something is wrong.
as said already if its not one thing its another

my misses loves cars as much as i do and thats why i've only ever had 3 GF in all my life. they aint worth the time if they cant be bothered to understand our obsessions and hobbys when we have to understand there need for womany things.

end of the day your project isnt going to last forever so the sooner she leaves you alone to finish it the sooner you can spend the time and money on say a holiday... bribes work a treat

Go out, get some food and cook her a lovely meal. I do a Korma, because i am awesome. Candles and the lot, some wine and flowers. Tell her you love and all that sh!te..

Then destroy her in the bedroom, front and back bottom. Should then give you enough time to work on the car whilst she learns to walk again

Nearly sprayed coffee over the screen reading that one!

My missus is great, we're currently house shopping and she rules out anything without a garage + hardstanding for extra cars, plus she loves her transporter (although shes reluctant to let me mod it!). I think she just wishes I could work a bit quicker!

Some cracking replies thanks lads.
She's not too much of a moaner and to be fair she's not a typical shoes dresses and make up fanatic she rarely spends money on herself either.
Im liking wherrys idea although I'd make a madras because I'm not a poof

The car will be done for April next year and then it's a case of just enjoying ot.She wants a caravan which isn't my bag but I said I will buy her one mad go away in the week next year (although on the understanding could tow it with what I wanted)

I think she just needs to get herself a hobby but when I ask her she doesn't know what she want to do!

Bloody women!

In all seriousness though, a relationship is give and take. You need your time she needs hers. You have something to fill yours with, she doesn't. Spend some time with her talking and finding out what she likes over a dinner you cooked, with all the little extras too. Show it's not all one way as it never can be in a relationship. She'll feel great and you will get your space too. Win win as she is happy and you get to finger your bores.

I still think you should get a canvas of the two of you like was originally planned, you'll get some brownie points on that one. If you know her well enough you should already know what to do

What is her job?

*Really difficult giving a serious answer*

I think that's the 1st serious post I've seen off you.

She works at the hospital in housekeeping. If i ask her what she wants to do she never had an answer! It's like if YOU don't know what you want to do how the furry fluck will I know
Sometimes I wish beating women round the head with a wet fish wasn't so frowned upon :(

If I get the canvas thing she will probably take my pic down to put it up though!

Let her have that one then, just the one though!

Tell her that she never knows what she wants to do, so you just assume that she doesn't want to do anything. Tell her she has a voice and to use it

Also give her a massage, they ALWAYS end happy

Once you've cooked for her and done everything, wait until she is asleep just gently rest your testicles on her head for about 5 - 10 seconds, just to reclaim some masculinity.

Buy her a sewing machine and tell her you'd thought she'd like a nice relaxing new hobby.

Once she's become quite good at it, get her to start re-upholstering your car. The bonus here is you get to work together AND you car gets sorted.

As the partner of someone who talks about cars CONSTANTLY I sympathise with your other half. It is BORING to hear the same sh1t day in day out. Now I am interested in cars and we go to shows etc together and I'm happy to talk cars a lot but when it's just all the fricking time it gets dull! There's other stuff in life! How would you like it if she constantly went on and on about one thing all the time?

I used to work at a restaurant called 'The Spinster and the Serial Wife'......the latter felt she was qualified to give marriage advice too hahaha! Five husbands all left trailing in her wake, two dead, one paralysed, one cheated and one just disappeared.

Been Married Twice as well....

2nd time round - it's as simple as this....

Ohh b!tch - Pick up my parts on your way back from the party I've just paid for.... & make it sharpish as I need feeding and the dishwasher I bought you now needs emptying and your binlid (Kid) need putting to bed....

 >:D

Not Really  :D :D :D  as the 2nd wife was told before we got married that it was pointless trying to change me & if she did try she knew where the front door was and she could piss of back to her parents and share a room with her sister again - instead of living in my big detached house... ;)

Funny but after 10 years she still lives here  :smug:

She must have been desperate to hang around after you laid that on the table. At least you've demonstrated chauvinism isn't dead. Oh, how it must feel to be firmly stuck in someone's pocket  :lipsrsealed:

An X4MGS communist dictatorship, lovely, she should have told you go f**k yourself and found a man whose mindset isn't that the resembles one from the early 1900's.
