Need to step up on the basics if they want to get anywhere. Outplayed the whole game IMHO

Better team won!
England was shocking!

Thank god we are out, the most boring team in the tournament, just long ball all the time.
Rooney was dogsh!te all game too
-
England are top 8 at best, people need to realise that.

Well done England for showing the rest of the world the truth about English football. Over rated third rate players pretending to be world class but failing miserably.

Nail on the head, hit the.

Italy are not all that, if they were they would have done us in 90 minutes. They failed.
As for England, no expectations this time so it was alright. Over paid and under acheivers, still they done well....................

Hodgson shown for the crap manager he is.
How all the england players can be knackered after 30mins is beyond me.
The england players will be glad to be back in england where they can water their dry ar$es
... and as said, they have just saved themselves major embarassment against germany

Did not think the defence was too bad, at least they kept a clean sheet with Italian help.
Italy bossed the centre of the field and read all our attacks, We resorted to the lumbering giraffe and long balls when they kept shutting the door.
We desperately need a new midfield, cant we handout some passports in Brazil or sumfin....
I'm picking Germany v Portugal in the final, Germany 3-2 no pens
-
Tbf England were pretty good in the first half, they were taking it to the Italians but the second half was another story.
Terry did a good job but Rooney couldn't be arsed as usual.
-
I think they played to their capabilities & were just not good enough, they looked pretty crap the whole tournament to be fair !
-
Kick. A. Ball. Run.
And we defended well as we had at least 8 men behind the ball at all times. It's like trying to penetrate a steel hymen. But the Italians nearly managed even that. :lipsrsealed:
Every other side were able to fluidly move the ball. Even those knocked out. England just can't make space or pass. End of.

Just accept it that were a pile of sh*te allways will be due to the amount forign talent that play in the premership and its those players that make the premership look good.

crap manager?? because we went out to a very good italy side, shut up mate. its the players who let England down not the manager tacitly England were very well set out.
pirlo ran the show last night for italy who played the long ball system very well.
-
One thing I dont know why they do those adverts that say "What are you doing for England?"
You know the ones Rooney stands looking cool.
Talk about making the fall bigger than it should be, but hey he proberly made a few grand out it mmmmmm?
I've had this plan and want England to try it out!
Take 11 kids get them to play football without any football boots make them live in a hut, starve them once in awhile and get them to sort huge mountains of rubbish to make ends meat and say this is your life!
Then ask can you improve your life and your family on a pitch? :undecided:
-
Now they are out and Rednapp is out of a job I do wonder if there will be a change lol Football is a fickle world loyalty is only as good if your winning lol
Funny thing is as a Scottish person we would been very happy with making the 1/4 finals because we at the end of the day are realistic ( yes before you say it I know we will probably never even qualify again ) but it's true the Scottish would have come home heroes not public enemies lol

I think that it should be seriously looked at how Spain managed to become world beaters and try and mimic what they did.
Not play like them, but to pick a style of football (whether it's total or long ball) and choose a team that can perfect that style be be brilliant at it. It doesn't have to be a team full of galactico's, because that never works out. Pick players that can play the chosen system well. Seems simple but so is football.

Can you please just explain to me who was italys best player last night and who was marking him... because whoever it was wasnt within 20m of him all night.
This manager has one tactic and its to bore the other team to death. what has he ever done thats good for any team?? He talks down every team he has ever managed then basks in gloy when they win when not expected. let me sum up englands campaign for you.
FRANCE - played well defensively, hung on for a draw
SWEDEN - poor defensively and theo scored a goal which any decent keeper would have saved. even he didnt know how a shot down the centre of goal went in.
ITALY - defended reasonably but after the first 20mins they had been snuffed out. Italy made the tactical changes necessary and didnt have to play a single long ball in the second half becasue they were never in their own half.
I have said it before and i will say it again.. the man is a one trick pony and the FA are about to find out the hard way!!
Tactics - the man simply has none. let me hihglight his tactics for you
Played an unfit rooney because he didnt have the balls to play anyone else.
Played milner (on the right of midfield) because reporters questioned him on Johnsons defensive capabilities. When johnson was probably one of englands best defenders overall.
Went on a about a 23 man sqaud... how many of those did he use??
Downing - enough said
Ashley young... well I have said it a million times and I will say it again. This guy can not play in a rigid system and was exposed for the fake he is.
One thing all strikers thrive on are crosses... in fact all englands goals (apart from walcotts) came from balls from out wide into the danger area. how many of those were put in by the wingers? none... because the wingers didnt put a decent ball in between them.
Me personally would of had a totally different approach to penalties! As the manager you do the homework as to where your players put their last 10 penatlies and then YOUtell them where you want them to put the ball. Its as simple as that!!
Ashley cole has taken one penatly before and it was the same place it was saved this time by Buffon. Coincidence???? I doubt it... if the opposition can work this stuff out then so can the manager.
Cappello was the best thing to happen to this england team... and they got rid of him simply because they wanted an english manager.
Well there you go FA.. you got your man... enjoy!
As an employer of people.. i dont hire people based on where they are from. I hire on ability alone... as does every club side which won a majoy honour this year and the last 20 years in top flight football in every league in europe. I wonder why that is
Next time you wish tell me to 'shut up' when it comes to football... then make sure you come better prepared.

Roy Hodgson took over a disorganised rabble who looked unlikely to get out of their group and turned them into an organised rabble who did.
Before the tournament reaching the quarter finals was about the best that could have been expected, so we have delivered to expectations.
It feels worse because having got into a winning position in the penalty shoot out, the big time charlies bottled it.
"Cappello was the best thing to happen to this england team" what aload of crap.
so SHUT UP nuff said.
-
which england manager had a better record than capello?
the only reason they expected to get knocked out at the 1/4 finals was because thats what the old fool woy told you!
if those same 11 players were to be sold by their clubs tomorrow they would command a fee in excess of £200M!
The reason england always lose penalties is very easy to figure out.... because they play for them by hoping some devine right they will win one and justice will be restored. How many times have england played a team off the park them lost on penalties.... none!
Roy Hodgson took over a disorganised rabble who looked unlikely to get out of their group and turned them into an organised rabble who did.
dude... seriously wtf are you talking about
-
I was fuming about no one bothering to mark Pirlo all night.
Every single person watching the game last night and before the game knew to beat Italy or to control the game more, you need to stop Pirlo.
Did Woy bother to set anything up to do this..no. All game Pirlo had as much time and space as he wanted to pass the ball to who and where he wanted. Look at the stats...
Pirlo did 131 passes last night, 87 more than the nearest English player. That for me shows Woy's tactics were completely wrong. He did nothing all game to stop him running the show.
We was very very lucky it went to pens last night, Italy had 31 shots to England's 8 shots and if Mario had his shooting boots on or the post did not save us, we could of easily lost 3/4-0 last night.
I don't buy in to all this sh!te about how Italy are a great side..maybe 6/8 years ago yes, now? Not really, their manager before the Euro's had less expectations than we did.
The fact is , as always with England the tactics were completely wrong.

Hodgson has been in the job two months. TWO FCUKING MONTHS!
What did he have to work with exactly? And for how long?
Hodgson organised a fairly poor bunch of players into a team that were hard to break down. We beat two average sides in Ukraine and Sweden and drew against two teams who are better than us in France and Italy.
I don't honestly know what more he could have done, and going out on penalties in the quarters is a decent enough performance, all things considered
If we're still playing backs to the wall stuff in two years in Brazil then fair enough, some criticism and questions will be valid.
For now, I want to know exactly what England were expected to achieve in their performances and group games given the circumstances.
-
Best thing for England to do is get rid of all the old players & start again from scratch, they have no chance of winning the world cup so what have they got to lose !
-
which england manager had a better record than capello? Sir Alf Ramsey, Bobby Robson, Terry Venables, Glen Hoddle. Sorry i forget weren't we knocked out the second round of the world cup with capello in charge?
the only reason they expected to get knocked out at the 1/4 finals was because thats what the old fool woy told you! why would roy tell use we'd get knocked out of the 1/4 finals? its what the press and public expected because of the sh!t performances the players put in.
if those same 11 players were to be sold by their clubs tomorrow they would command a fee in excess of £200M! Wayyyyyy overpriced, most players are, so you think andy carroll is worth £35 million......no didnt think so
The reason england always lose penalties is very easy to figure out.... because they play for them by hoping some devine right they will win one and justice will be restored. How many times have england played a team off the park them lost on penalties.... none! so you then admit roys tactics worked if he played for penalties and the players let us down?.
Roy Hodgson took over a disorganised rabble who looked unlikely to get out of their group and turned them into an organised rabble who did.
dude... seriously wtf are you talking about  Roy took over a very disorganised England team which were expected to get knocked out of the group stages but has made an improvement by organising them and they exceed expectations, unless you expected roy to take over, score a million goals and win the euros?

Give him the job for the next 10years for all I care.... he will NOT win anything. He has a negative attitude to the way football should be played.
How you can say these players are poor is beyond me.... poor performance? yes. poor levels of ability? no.
Capello adapted his tactics to suit... players were not fond of it, but who cares they are paid to play!! pretty much like every other person who works. Did they not beat spain with Capello in charge? Why? because he had more than one plan unlike Won tactic Woy
I know you will be quick to talk about circumstance... did Woy not watch every single player in the Premier League this season when his team played against them??? Probably more matches than Capello watched!
So what are these circumstances you speak of? If you think that was an acceptable level of performance then you are as deluded as Woy
-

None of them had a better record than Capello
If you are trying to say that the level of the performance against Sweden, Ukraine and Italy was acceptable... from those players then you are a fool. They were set out to play the incorrect way & someone should be asking questions as to why Parker, Gerrard, Rooney, Milner struggled to play 45mins of football let alone a full match.
Pirlo at 33 certainly didnt look tired.

Why do you think they were expected to get knocked out of the group stage

WHAT??? have you seen what you've wrote? first you go on to say its the manager then you go to say its the players make your mind up!!!
as i said the players have underperformed not roy.
-
WHAT??? have you seen what you've wrote? first you go on to say its the manager then you go to say its the players make your mind up!!!

I personally think he has to accept some of the blame his defensive tactics were great but the midfield & attack was woeful, should of not made a massive deal about Rooney being so important as yet again on the big stage he was sh!t.
-
WHAT??? have you seen what you've wrote? first you go on to say its the manager then you go to say its the players make your mind up!!!

So you are defending Roy and blaming the players??
The run up to the Euros had seen england with a better record (over the past 2 years) than any previous period. FACT
So why was there so little expectation??? Because Woy was in charge... thats why!
I wouldnt say the blame lay with all players.. just those few regular under performers such as young, rooney & milner even welbeck was poor aside from his goal. Where was the rest of the 23 man squad Woy???
Of all the players he took the only others that made it on to the pitch were Henderson, Walcott and Ox (and Carrol if you count bring him on as simple target man with no support and part time defender).
Just remind me of Woys premier league AWAY record so we can all have a giggle? Or maybe you have his WIN record so we can laugh even more?? :smug:

Yes you have obviously read that information before...
The win ratio may be similar... the slight difference being the majority of Capellos games were competative. Time will tell...
Just for the record if you compare the previous england managers record...
He won the Seria A - 4 times
Coppa Italia - 2 times
As a coach
Seria A - 7 times with 3 Different teams!
Italian super cup - 4 times 2 different teams
Champions League
European Super Cup
La liga - 2 Times
Not to mention numerous manigerial awards.
There is simply no comparision between the two manager which kind of reflects the difference in football knowledge between you and I

Gilly for England

England did ok, but that doesn't make it acceptable. If we are to win a major tournament and compete with the very best there's a number of changes that need to be made and it needs to be done at grass roots level. I've been around junior football for a few years now due to my son and some of the things I've experienced show me that until there's a big changes in attitudes we will NEVER compete for major honours. I could go into my experiences but the post would be long and boring. Lets just say that first and foremost it appears to be about the size of the kids and the necesity to win and not technical ability. Before anyone says anything, no my son doesn't play for a cr@p team and has won his league for the last three years, but they have done it by playing good passing football and they are not a big team by any stretch of the imagination.
Some changes are coming into affect in the next two years or so whereby they are scrapping 11 a side up until 13 or 14 and up to these ages they are playing 9v9 with more realistic size goals. This is something that will make a huge difference and allow players more time on the ball etc but this will take a generation before we even see the benefit.
As for the game the other night, I'm no tacticion but if someone had man marked Pirlo the other night Italy wouldn't have had any other option that I could see.

Please come up with some facts to back up your statement, as I have clearly provided. Woys record compared to that of Capellos and you simply have no answer.

As for the game the other night, I'm no tacticion but if someone had man marked Pirlo the other night Italy wouldn't have had any other option that I could see.
That is what I said and for me shows how poor the whole management set up at England is, not just Woy.
Italy player for player are no better or worse than us to be honest, they also have a lot of younger players coming through the ranks , like we do.
All game Pirlo could do what the hell he wanted and if Italy had took the chances he had created, they could of won the game at ease , but for some unknown reason, Woy decided that despite playing 11 behind the ball for 70 odd mins, no one should mark Pirlo out of the game.
We was pretty sh!te all tournament to be honest, only Ireland and Greece had less possession on average than England. We had a awful 39% average ball possession during the tournament, which is not good enough really is it.
To show just how poor we are with the ball, we even made less passes than Holland and Russia, despite us playing for 120 minutes more than them and we only average 3 shots or less on target in 4 games.
So some people can say we did well with the players we had, I think we did pretty shocking
-
I think they should also give sky sports free to all children under 16
Seeing as the barstewards took it away from everyday kids in the first place.
