Folks,
Does anyone know of any info regarding removing the front lip spoiler and rear diffuser sections from the bumpers?
It appears to be just screws...but don't want to get all rough and break something.
Can anyone help?
Cheers

Replace a cracked front lip - my old man was driving my car...I told him it wouldn't go up his driveway...he argued it would.
The driveway won.
New lip required.
The rear diffuser thing I may get painted as it seems to attract polish from all around!
-
Iirc Mike has posted this info on here before for me.

Oh dear hope it's sorted soon.
Do you think this is the reason why the front splitter/lip is not fitted to US cars?
-
I've not looked how easy the rear is yet as my diffuser should be coming back any day now, i was hopping i didn't have to remove the entire bumper, the rear diffuser looks to have some screws but a shed load of clip fittings where it meets
-
I recalled seeing the diagram before on an older thread.. it does show some bit for diffuser and lip
Here you go

New lip ordered...
Father told...
A crate of Brewdog's Punk IPA delivered today by way of apology
Nice!!
I didn't know the US cars didn't have it...but that's probably why.

Sadly this doesn't show the front lip or diffuser...just the complete bumper units.

Never tried the front lip but SteveP painted the one on his old mk6 GTI so he could tell you how to get that off. Having had a quick look under mine it looks simple enough.
I've taken my rear diffuser off, that is very easy, undo a few hex nuts underneath and then there are a load of plastic lugs that just push into the bumper, you just manhandle the thing clear. 5 min job max.

Ahh...thanks.
I've not really looked as I had surgery on my left hand last week, so I'm struggling to do much...but that sounds promising.
-
oooh, hope it's healing up okay Glen.
Yeah, the back is a very easy job (two handed!), front looks easy too

Sadly not...it's still weeping but got the stitches out today as they had just started to get infected.
Not a big op...to cure 'trigger finger' on my left pinkie.
Not good on a left hander though...and the cut being accross the crease lines on my hand, it's healing slowly.

Another job added to the list.

Iirc on stevep mk6 forum I have a post about compatibility of the edition35 lip iirc there's elsawin photos etc on that thread shown how there both held on.
-
A couple more from Elsawin, not sure if the rear tells you much.

It sure does...it confirms it's just the fasteners I can see are used to hold the lip on.
Mike, if you have a minute...could you have a look to see what the diagram for the side sill trims looks like?
I'm wondering if they are clipped on, screwed on, stuck on...or a combination of those three.
-
sills Iirc as it was 2 years ago. Theses bolts underneath, then you slide it backwards on its clips and pull it off.
-
Just self tapers holding on the front lip matey. Not sure bout the back but doubt there will be much to it once you have a look.

i took my bumper and headlight off and fitted new bracket and put back together with one hand (right arm and hand in a cast after an op) so get cracking!
the front wasn't hard but looking at the back i think you would need 2 hands as them clips take some pulling apart
what colour you on about paining them?
i think the same grey as the front grille would look good

I'll have a look tomorrow.

Mirror backs, front lip, diffuser and side trims in metallic anthracite matched to the wheels colour, I think.
Then some black tips for the exhaust...
And the de-blinging will be complete.

Here are the side trim diagrams

I think that would look crackin, perhaps some Akrapovic tips?
-
There is a vid on You Tube of someone detailing how to remove a GTI front bumper, sorry I haven't the link.

Have you seen the price of Akrapovic carbon tips?
Ask the doc...but be seated when he replies!
No, I've got some of these:

Broken front lip now removed - many thanks for the info chaps.
-
rear one is straightforward with bumper on, simply remove 4 screws then gently pull it and it unclips, took me a few attempts to get it back on and in reality best method i found was get the screws in before pushing the clips back in, had to use some gentle pursuasion with a rubber mallet and diffuser protected with bubble wrap to get it fully into place and clipped in give the bumper flex
