Title: Streaky Mk3 Spoiler *Updated Pictures*
Post by: kahunajb on 24 April 2012, 19:01
My spoiler has been like this since I bought it and I now need to do something about it. I have tried Kiwi shoe polish, Autoglym bumper care and some other back to black type products and whilst they make it darker none remove the streaks.

Was thinking maybe a light sand just to take the top layer off but a bit wary of this. Or the heat gun method but still not sure if this will remove the streaks.

Any ideas welcome. Thanks

Has that been sanded before?

Not by me. Looking at it I'd say not by anyone else either as it very smooth.

just a thought, the front bumper on mine is badly marked and i wouldnt cut thru it but its a lot worse than yours

No not tried that but don't think it will work cos tried similar things and helps darken it but doesn't even out the colour.

i tried back to black etc and 5/6 layers later nothing, so i'll be interested to see what others recommend.
good luck x

read this...

although I said I used 00 wire wool after trying that awful 'back to black' stuff I think now I might try a VERY light wet sanding with either 2500 or 3000

either way.. try a small sample first.. in an inconspicuous area. C4 really is the only way to go for me. see the rest of the black trim thread I linked to for more ideas.

No, total unrelated to the subject, just posted this in the last place that she posted, hoping that she'd see and reply. Didn't even read what she wrote lol

Cheers for the advise going to try the wire wool or wet and dry as need to even out the colour before treating it with anything. Pretty happy with the autoglym bumper care if I can get it all one uniform colour.

I used this on g/f Mk 3.  T'was the only stuff that would bring back a nice deep black lustre (from a virtual grey!)

Failing that - how about the old peanut butter solution?  It has to be the non-crunchy variety though

I'd go with option No.1...

Just use heat!

If Murraymint read the thread he could have helped!

I also attacked the arches with a heat gun yesterday

Right have had a go at it with some fine wire wool grade 00 and then Autoglym bumpercare and it has come up pretty good. Still a bit streaky so not 100% happy but will have another go another day maybe with some wet and dry. Here are the photos.
