first up got an ebay can and had some stainless 19mm fittings custom made as it only came with 9mm and 15mm and wanted to use all 19mm pipe just want to point out that this is not a how to but feel free to use at your own risk

decided to mount at front as it seemed to make the pipe work sits best there
(http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af149/cullygti/IMAG0273.jpg)
skipped a few bits as didnt take any pics of taking out the old

after 9 days i noticed it was starting to get quite a bit of gunk in there and what appeared to be my can leaking
(http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af149/cullygti/IMAG0312.jpg)
where the top of the can bolts to the bottom was metal to metal so in my knowledge there was no seal so decided to take apart and use some gasket seal to bond top to the bottom of can and then tighten it back down with the bolts that were in there reason for doing this in first place was i noticed oil seaping through as in the pics

gasket seal on
(http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af149/cullygti/IMAG0313.jpg)
and fitted back together hopefully there will be no more leaks through the seal not saying this will happen to everyones but my luck is poo and if summat can go wrong then it does for me
all finished and back together

-
Looks tidy pal..
Paint the 20v - Turbo on engine cover same blue as pipes!

Want to help me with mine??
-
Want to help me with mine??
what engine code you got dude
-
I have an eBay catch can too and I also dismantled it to apply some clear silicon gasket but I used braided hoses instead, unfortunately those hoses you used aren't intended for use with oil and won't last too long.
So far it's not leaked at all, can't complain given how cheap these catch cans are.
-
very nice that mate fair do's yeah it was a cheap simple fix with the pipes as the old litteraly well were not there
-
Want to help me with mine??
what engine code you got dude
AGU mate.
-
pretty easy to do mate just as long as nothing breaks in the process of fitting
-
Knowing my luck something will
-
Did you not decide to put any thing in it like wire wool to help condense the vapour like the sachi ones have??.....
Also on that note what would be good to use as a gauze??
-
rio i have been thinking of it mate but cant decide on what to use was thinking of summat like a really washed out brillo pad or summat  have you got any ideas mate
-
See I think Brillo pad might be ok but things like wire wool it might break up and end up thru the turbo??
Thing sone sort of proper gauZe is needed and wedged straight down the middle (so intake is on one side of it) :undecided:
-
didnt think of it breaking up good shout mate guess it would be very small amounts going to the turbo which aint good this is summat il have to have a good think on :undecided:
-
neat looking bay mate!
-
cheers jamie  its getting there very slowly
-
ware did you get the hose from?
-
ebay mate it is not oil or fuel specific so as said prob wont last as long but it was cheap does what it is suppose to so that will do till i can afford some tidy stuff  i had it a lot cheaper than this tho as it was on offer

-
how many meters you use? ive done mine with standard silicone so need to change it and move catch can.
-
2 metres of 19mm mate you may need a different size to mine tho
-
mines 19mm booth inlet and outlet ill sort 2 meteres out then
-
where did you get the 19mm inlets from?
-
where did you get the 19mm inlets from?
He had them custom made, I am in the process of making some up, take it you are after some? Need to start a list of people who want them, then I can order the material.
-
copied from #List of names - Custom made 19mm catch can fittings#
I'm interested in a pair made to the same spec as cullygti's.
I have the same catch can but I have decided to mod mine slightly, I've stretched out a steel wire scourer and dropped it into the can. I've also got some copper plumbing pipe (12 or 15mm I will check when I get home) and bent it slightly and also drilled a couple of holes down the side. I am going to epoxy that to the inside of the inlet fitting so that the gasses have to pass through the scourer baffle first. Thats my cheapo bodge to copy the saikou michi internals. http://www.saikoumichi.com/OCC_explanation.htm (http://www.saikoumichi.com/OCC_explanation.htm)
Would you be able to lengthen the thread of one of the fittings or possibly machine it so the copper pipe can slide over or into the fitting?
dunno if a scourer would break up, i had one on the side which was wet and it ended up rusting and falling apart and as there is almost 90% water when catch tank is emptied i think it would rust.....
would a stainless steel one not rust with the oil/water mix :undecided:
-
Thats what I was thinking so I went for the stainless steel thick wire type
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pack-Heavy-Stainless-Steel-Scourers/dp/B003UP0UZW/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1332243632&sr=8-6 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pack-Heavy-Stainless-Steel-Scourers/dp/B003UP0UZW/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1332243632&sr=8-6)
Being stainless steel, it shouldn't rust. In theory! I'm guessing it wont be as good quality s/s as an exhaust system but even then it will last at least 6 months. They're cheap enough to replace nearly as often as I would empty out the can.
-
its just the worry of it starting to break up and get sucked into the turbo causing boom boom!!!!
-
as the pieces are bigger on the scourer maybe epoxy resin some gauze to the inside of the inlets like this or maybe if you get a big enough piece of gauze line it right around the can and then put in the scourer something like this in the link as an example to line right around inside of can obviously you can find it a lot cheaper this is just an eg..

-
showld have kept my old pick up pipe
-
Orrrrrr it would add like 100bhp look http://youtu.be/5MDH92VxPEQ?t=1m15s (http://youtu.be/5MDH92VxPEQ?t=1m15s)
That gauze is a good idea, however since its made from the same material wouldn't there be the same chance of the gauze breaking up?
The scourer I am using is pretty tough. I've used one on my pots and pans for a while and it hasn't broken up or rusted yet. Since it will be having a much easier time inside my catch can I will take the risk.
You do have the right to an I told you so though.
-
yeah the gauze could break but i would of thought stainless gauze would be better but after searching the price is pretty steep
-
It has been mentioned before about putting something inside it like a panel off a cheese grater so it has such gauze type effect, without actually being able to be sucked up..
Wire mesh could also work..
Say no, to brillo!
-
yeah brillo was just a silly idea dave
-
Panell off a cheese grater haha that sounds perfect!! Better wash it first thou!!!
Wonder if she'll notice it missing
-
 sounds like a plan
-
will this pipe be good for a catch can???
