Title: Jfscooby86
Post by: golfyste on 10 February 2012, 19:08
Hey, was wondering if anyone has bought any item off this member?
I bought some Anni valances and skirts off him at the end of November and they have still not arrived.
He said he sent them with the courier- cjonescourier who I contacted at the start of jan and he said the clutch in his van had gone and then asked when I want the parts and hasn't replied to me emails since.

I looked up this courier and couldnt find anything apart from someone on the evo forum who had scammed people using the same courier.

Just wondered if anyone had succeed illy bought anything from him and that I'm not being scamme and just being unlucky with the courier.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers lads

when will you people learn.

What to check out:

1.  His posting history, very good and varied, IE not just in the sales area.
2.  To see if he has sold succesfully to others, yes with good feedback.
3.  Check if items are realistically priced and not "too good to be true", yes

What more can you do on an internet forum?  At some point you actually have to trust someone not to do you over.  In this instance it would appear that we all just got caught by a well timed scammer.

I received a cheque last week for £65 and guess what it bounced. I feel like such a fool cause you trust these people. Does anyone have any details on him at all. I know his name is Jason farrant- apparently you can contact citizens advice who can trace him via his bank details

no but it's frustrating and annoying when once a week someone comes on here crying cause they've been scammed. There are warnings all over the forum telling people not to do bank transfers and paypal gifting but people still do it.

if you want people to stop saying "i told you so" then stop giving your money away.

You keep repeating it on the same topic, yes I know it was stupid and I won't do it again therefor I have learnt but that doesn't change the fact that I still don't have the money and using this topic may possibly help people get it back if we can get details or someone is sucsesful so sorry but your statement isn't really helping. Its not like the same person has done it again and keeps starting new topics that he has been scammed again.
This is the first time I have been scammed and will be the last so I have learnt but your not exactly helping which is what the forum is supposed to be about

I think you'll find he's adding in the sarcasm, as specified in the top banner.

I somehow doubt this will be the last time.

PayPal gifts and bank transfers were WAY dodgy when I started buying clutter on forums, which must be nearly a decade ago now.

So how do you expect anyone to purchase from a site like this without sending money in advance by some means?  You could send a cheque, but guess what, once it's cashed your in the same position as before.  I certainly cannot accept visa payments so that's out so you are left with cash on delivery, but then how many people think that DHL will accept cash from the doorstep and send it back to the consignee?  You could ask for the goods to be delivered free of charge and then I'll pay later but that's just the same thing but the other way round.  At some point, if you are going to purchase from a site like this, you have to be separated from your cash before receiving goods.  There is no other way of doing it, it is simply a question of trust.  And I have bought quite a bit of stuff from the classifieds on here and, with this one exception, have been very satisfied.  You can protect yourself by doing a few checks, which I detailed earlier, but there is no certainty in this world.

What your post effectively says is don’t buy anything from anyone on the internet who cannot accept visa or you might be scammed.  If you really live life with that little risk you must be very bored.

On a side note I have not seen anyone dripping about how awful it is to be scammed, just asking if anyone has contact details so that they can try to get either the goods they have paid for or their money back.  We all accept that we have been scammed, that’s part of the risk you run when using the classifieds and not going direct to VW, we are just trying to find a route back.  If one is not available then we will have to write it off.

So how do you expect anyone to purchase from a site like this without sending money in advance by some means?

Well, there's a couple of ways.  Go to the person's house and collect is the best route I've found.  Although this is inconvenient, I'd always ask to do this first up.  If they say no way, EVER then don't deal - there's clearly no trust.

Secondly would be not using the 'gift' option on Paypal.  Because you're not sending the gift of free cash in exchange for nothing, you're sending money for services.  If they ask for that, don't deal - you're both using a service, it's not being provided for free, someone has to pay, or you won't benefit from the service Paypal have made a business out of.  Likewise for bank transfers - don't do it, you're not protected.  You may as well send money to Nigeria instead.

What your post effectively says is don’t buy anything from anyone on the internet who cannot accept visa or you might be scammed.  If you really live life with that little risk you must be very bored.

Quite the opposite - I first met DannyP and Chuff through trading.  Just as well, as the seats I thought would fit in Chuff's Golf, didn't.  He didn't buy them, wasn't disappointed and became someone who I now know as a mate - that was as a direct contact with him, but an unsuccessful sale.  Forums are social engagement first and foremost, somewhere for friends and known associates to trade second.  Go into a transaction on here on this basis and you're much less likely to get screwed, otherwise use known, protected environments to trade, even if it costs a bit more - you're buying protection.

If you can't buy face to face then take measures to ensure you're buying securely.  It really is that simple.  If someone comes out with any form of excuse not to trade with you in the way you want - walk away.  There will always be other sh*t for you to buy, but you'll only ever earn the money you're proposing to spend once and that is why it hurts getting scammed.
Title: Re: Jfscooby86
Post by: Seanl on 08 March 2012, 12:07
I agree with what DH is saying actually. I never send payment by gift unless I know or fully trust the seller. On the few occasions I've bought stuff from people I don't know, I send them a message asking if its ok to send money for services and I pay the extra quid or 2 that they will incur in fees. Its not that I don't trust people, its just that I don't trust people!
Cover yourself as much as you can when purchasing goods, if they don't get back to you, or refuse to take payment outside of a gift, you know you've had a lucky escape!

To be fair what DH has said is what you should do.

I have paid for things via bank transfer to members of the forum. There are many people on here you can trust.

I put £280 into someones bank account via bank transfer :lipsrsealed:  in fairness though i have met this person face to face before and purchased stuff from them in the past.

So there are people that can be trusted.

People that i have dealt with and would deal with in the future are coincidentally the ones with higher post count.

Would hardly put it down to coincidence.... It means they're established on here.  The same thing for ebay, You're more likely to run into trouble with a buyer or seller who has a feedback score of 1 over someone who has 100.

No, what I am saying is pay it thru PayPal for goods and just bite the bullet and pay the extra fee

Thus getting protection.

It's that simple yet people still go down the gift payment route to save a few quid then b!tch like a mofo when they get fleeced.

Simple really, just like me
