Continental Contact Sport 5's are very impressive!

can anyone second that?
-
The best I've tried to date has been the Pilot Sport 3s.
But do have a search. Before his departure AM1W posted quite comprehensive reviews on almost every tyre for both winter and summer. It was a while ago so perhaps some fresh rubber designs have been released but I'm sure it will still be most helpful.
-
Yep, good info HERE (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=185782.0)
I'm sticking with the Michelin PS3s when the winters come off.

If that's the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetricals...then yes.
Great tyres in the wet and dry...but not good below 5 degrees C....but show me a high performance summer tyre that is.
-
GoodYear ASYM2 is what I have - they are a little slippy until they get heat into them then they are brilliant

Did they come standard with your seattles when you got the car?
-
No Sir, I got those horrible plastic bridgestones  (IMHO)
-
Only fit Dunlops if you are deaf.
-
agree!
my dunlops are sooooo noisy , wheels spins a lot and rather a harsh ride even with ACC comfort on, but they are very hard wearing apparently so I will be stuck with 'em for a good while
i fitted them to my missus audi a3, 17', her car rides far better now that the Pirellis that were fitted from new
read up the below and you can make an informed choice, have a good look at various autoexpress tyre reviews ont he summer tyre tests
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Goodyear/Eagle-F1-Asymmetric-2.htm (http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Goodyear/Eagle-F1-Asymmetric-2.htm)
not cheap though but quality costs and i would not scrimp on my gti tyres of it were me!
-
Askers tyre reviews: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=185782.0
-
Yep no scrimping here...it's looking good for the eagles at the mo....so as soon as I have the shadows in my possession I will make a informed decision... thanks all
Steve

I can recommend the Goodyears Asymetrics 2. Just had them fitted to my golf after having the Dunlops on which were a harsh noisy ride and also always made me cautious going around corners at anything other than normal speeds in the wet.
The Goodyears I am very pleased with.
-
Remember though the PS3's only come with 7mm tread compaired to the Bridgestones 9mm tread. I will be asking that question next time too. Paying £20 a tyre more for 2mm of tread less.
-
But my PS3s with 7mm tread lasted 2k miles longer than the Dunlops with more tread.
One thing I noticed with the Goodyear Asymmetric 1s compared to the Michelin was that the fuel consumption was 10% worse on the Goodyears, not sure on the Asymmetric 2s as I have never tried them.
-
Some really good points made there...will take it all into consideration when finally choosing the rubber....
Thanks
-
Been to kwikfit today to get a quote to supply and fit the goodyear eagles which came back as £600+.....
so I said ''oh okay thanks''
kwikfit guy says ''what have you been offered''
so I say ''£500 fitted''
kwikfit guy says ''hang on''
He goes and speaks to his manager and comes back and says ''we will match that''....it works out at £125 a piece which i thinks quite good!
So once I have picked up the wheels on saturday I will be getting them fitted with rubber sometime next week....then they will be stored till 2nd march which is when i pick up my new ride....i will be keeping the seattles for winter....Woohoo me! lol
Once again thanks for all of your comments...
-
hope your wheels come back in the same condition! they couldn't give a sh!t if they mark them.
-
Everyone at Kwik Fit arer a bunch of cockaroaches.
-
He'll fit in well there then!

Get this months EVO mag - there's a huge tyre test article with 10 tyres, nearly the same size as the Golf GTi (235/40 R18), albeit that the main test car is an S3.
Results were :-
1. Continental Contisportcontact 3
2. Hankook Ventus S1 EVO
3. Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2
4. Michelin Pilot Sport 3
5. Pirelli P Zero
6. Bridgestone Potenza S001
7. Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT (standard OEM on Golf R 19" Alloys)
8. Vredestein Ultrac Cento
9. Kumho Ecsta KU39 LE Sport
10 Accelera PHI

Here is the Autoexpress test on a Golf with 17s
Here the Contisports are 6th and they mention they are one of the worst in the wet.
You wonder about these tests sometimes, probably best using them as general advice and going with what works best for you.
1. Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2
2. Michelin Pilot Sport 3
3. Pirelli P Zero
5. Vredestein Ultrac Cento
5. Nokian Z G2
6. Continental Contisportcontact 3
7. Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT
8. Bridgestone Potenza S001
9 Apollo Aspire 4
10. Hankook Ventus S1 EVO
-
the results don't tell the whole story though
the bridgestones are the best in the dry cornering and lap times but road noise and rolling resistance spoil the final score
IMO the sport contact 3 is the best tyre I've used.
-
What size are the tyres on the 18in monza's...225 40 18 or maybe 235 ect ect?
Thanks
Steve
-
Zz3s don't exsist anymore, zz5s now
-
On the off chance I phoned my old Suzuki dealer and asked if he could beat the quote I was given by kwikfit to supply and fit the goodyears and he's gonna do it for £485 so the cost is now £121.25 each fitted..
I totally trust these guys as I've been with them for the past 6yrs and have had loads of stuff fitted by them with no probs....
-
good price, those monza shadows need to be handled bit of care !!
-
He'll fit in well there then!
Well I've now picked up the Monza Shadow II's.....they are (like ash said) in Brand spanking new condition with not a blemish on them....I just have to get rid of the residue left from the barcodes....they came in vw bags and boxes....Ash is a top fella, a really genuine guy....and it's a BIG THANK YOU!! to him
I suppose if you treat people with respect and the way you would like to be treated then in turn they will treat you the same...LOL
Here's some pics......Thanks Ash!!

Aren't Monzas on a GTD going to look a little strange
Each to his own and all that but anyone in the know will just think that it's a GTD trying to be something it's not.
I know you said you liked the look of the monzas and that's why you chose them but I think people will form a certain opinion when looking at the car, even if that's not your intention.
Anyway, as I said, each to his own.

Apart from the exhaust/diffuser and the colour of the stripes on the grille the GTD and GTI look identical anyway - so monzas won't look out of place on a GTD at all.

Yeah totally understand where your coming from...but I've always wanted a performance golf and I've always liked the look of the monzas...this is my first vw and if I could of I would of paid extra for the GTI but there is a very valid reason why I couldn't get the gti (and it's not the money) if you must know...im actually disabled, So I've bought the monzas as a compromise!
In my opinion they won't look to out of place as (mac7) said the gti and gtd look similar...only a few differences...
Steve
-
I have seen them on a couple of GTD's and they were fitted for customers by a vw garage I went to when I was looking for a new car. Like said before you don't see any difference really apart from the silver trim and twin exhausts at 1 one side.
I thought it was a GTI at first as saw it from the side.
-
and then you heard the clatter when it started up?

Yeah the first time i saw them on a gtd was at my dealers...I used to worked with someone who now works at my dealers and he's got the gtd as company car which happens to have the monzas fitted to it...apparently a customer want to buy a gti from the showroom but didn't like the monzas so the dealer swapped them with the charlestons of a gtd and my mate got the monzas...
