Right I have a 99 1.8t. I've not driven the 2.8 but fancy giving it a whirl. May sound silly but is fuel efficiency horrendously different. My car is standard except from a piper cross incuction and it's been lowered by about 35mm with 18" alloys. Is it a noticeable different drive? I like the idea of 4wd too. I've scouted this forum every now and again but there seems to be many more of you guys with a 1.8t to anything else rather than a 2.8v6.

i would get the v6 4mo they are miles better than the 1.8t,plus 4wd good for snow :grin:

i`ve considered putting the running gear from a 4mo/r32 on my 1.8t, would mean changing the boot floor pan though and possibly fuel tank. too expensive so sticking with fwd. the plus side is less transmission loss :undecided:

so what are thinking buying a 4mo
ill tell you fuel effiency is crap,suspension will need changing bit bouncy,r32 springs is a good way to go.
4wd is not perminant only when is needs it,
and in my own oppinion its underpowered for a 2.8v6
but i wouldnt change it for the world.
im back in norwich at the end of november visiting parents and family ill give you a shout :smiley:

Double your fuel costs!! Sounds awesome like very good in sh!t weather All your tuning Lads will tell you stick to the 1.8t of course as getting more power out a 4mo isnt cheap and as bricey said standard suspension on the 4mo is bouncy as hell! I love the 4mo though and you can pick up a 4mo pretty cheap as people dont like the fuel costs

Okey dole. I mean I have no intention of remapping my car. The big one for me would have been the 4wd as where i live when it snows it's a b!tch. but from the sounds of it the 1.8t is a better car?
Thatd be great bricey. I know fuel economy would go down, but is it that bad?

Well no the 4mo would be better in bad weather overall i prefer the 4mo i love the noise and i dont care about fuel if you want MPG then the 1.8t is the better option

Well u must be thrashing it then my mates 1.8t gets about 25 to 30 around town and 35 to 45 mpg on long runs

mines about 26 around town dropped to around 18/19 when giving her some mid 30s on long runs

on a typical trip to norwich i cant just about nudge 32mpg that is being very gentle with the throttle.
great car though

dont see much diffrence in fuel between my 4:mo an 1.8t on the motorway feels like your revvin the nuts out the 1.8t but the 4:mo is so much better for it but 1.8t is better about town

Mine over 80ltrs of fuel averaged out @ 28.6mpg (mixed driving, mostly short runs) and that was not doing it on the mfa readings but working it out with miles covered etc.

short runs are where all your fuel is going. i used to drive 1.5miles to work every day and was only getting about 22mpg, go for a long motorway drive and i would see about 45mpg driven sensibly.

since i had mine remapped im gettin 39-40mpg on the motorway doin 80/85 round town im on 34 give it some and im gettin 28 thats proper bootin it aswell:-/ lol

Doubt that tbh, book figure is around 37/38 for a 1.8t, most I have ever seen on a run is 35.6.

Sensible run i can see 40-42 with a feather-weight foot and thats on the IOW. Boring as hell though.

if your bothered about fuel consumption get a dirty diesel if not then a 1.8t is the way to go
