So im so close to ordering a ed35 but wanted some advice on what kind of bartering i could get away with what have other people had discounted on there cars on my last car i was lucky enough to have known the sales rep and he gave me close to 1400 pound off but sadly he no longer works for vw
any ideas guys?

There's no black and white answer to that one citizen Kane.
Do you have a part ex?
Are you going to lease, pcp or generally finance? Or plain old cash?
Drop evo1986 a PM, he works for a busy VW dealership and would work out a deal for you as it's £££ in his back pocket and he's a very helpful chap. As I just mentioned though, it's a busy dealership that do a lot of fleet sales so you may not get a quick build slot unless he can pinch one from another dealer in his group that doesn't do big business in GTIs.
Check out drivethedeal and broadspeed to see what brokers can get you off a car if you aren't part-ex'ing. Again, these will be dealers who do a lot of fleet sales so build dates could be your enemy.
I've been nosing around at GTIs over the last couple of months as I want a car with xenons. I don't want a new car as I don't use it much and it would take forever to run it in, so I've been looking at sub 1 year old models with xenons.
Talking to salesmen here and there I've found that they will offer discounts off new builds but then will be less flexible in part ex prices (which is common sense at the end of the day as there's only so much money in a deal for them).
Very often the best deals are in ex-demo models that are approaching 6 months old and are due to be replaced with another demo so they need the metal shifted. So if you can wait around 6-9 months and don't mind one with a few miles on the clock I reckon you'll see a few demo ED35s popping up towards the end of the year.
-
If that's you in the avtra, they probably charge you £1400 on top of list!!!!!
Go to an on-line trader and see if the dealer will price match, if not they usually come to within about £400 in my limited expereince.
-
I'd be interested to see what you'd get too, I'm thinking about one too, fairly basic bar 19's and RCD510+Dynaudio+DAB.
As this will be the 3rd GTi and 4th golf from possibly same dealer I'm expecting a little movement on list.

Why bother specing a £2k (RNS510) option when you can get one for £500?

Send a PM to N13KKF, he sorted out me a Version C RNS510. He is very active OMB the R32OC website. Quite a few people have used him on this forum and I recommend him. He's taken over as the main supplier since people like Darren stopped selling them.

There have been a few group buys (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=151791.0) previously plus a few forum members have bought successfully from eBay. I think its Lithuania sellers.

... and you know what happened to Citizen Kane..........
As you live in 3rd World UK which still thinks it is 1st World (though not for long anyway), where the road surfaces are as excellent as the majority of its 'educated' citizens, I would embrace the following advice:
The MOST important option which you MUST specify is ACC. Otherwise, your car will ride and feel like an truck and rattle like a kindergarten full of demented children.
Golfs with 18" diameter wheels or greater and without this option are undrivable IMO. No ACC: then you've bought yourself a shaking rattling mess.

Sorry Asker but I don't agree. The standard ride is not harsh IMO, what you've just written is how I'd describe the Audi S3 not the GTI.

I've got acc in my rocco as standard only really use it on sport for those moments when you want to be a bit lively and I want to avoid them as much as possible lol

Jim: You are right. The S3 is a great tool to relieve constipation. It's therefore not a car but a suppository.

I'm always in 'comfort' mode. My old bones can't take the shaking.
I think I've suffered serious damage from when I owned a Honda Civic Type R.

What discounts did you all get if you brought or leased a new car from vw

Just over 10%, and it was like drawing blood out of stone.

Bugger all, I ordered mine in the first week of release ie 23rd May 2009 so there were really no discounts being given at that time, mind you I had the car by 26th July 2009 (2 months from order to delivery) some guys waited up to 8 months for their cars.

Slightly exaggerated there my dear Asker

I'm sure that even the majority of drivers that qualify for Saga insurance would disagree with that statement.

I've no ACC and have 18" wheels and have never experienced any problems with the ride of the car in fact its near enough perfect

Dear Martin: I seem to remember your dissatisfaction with the hard ride from your GTI and you posted to that effect. You also wondered if ACC was retro-fittable. Can you deny this? I can do a search to fish this out, but will let you answer me honestly. Hope all is well.
-
Yes you did say it Martin ha ha ha
-
I don't think the ride on 18s is harsh either. Bt then again, I'm used to it and my mates moan about it being very firm when I take them around in it. Admittedly, they're used to Mondeos and stuff but there you go.
Mine was ordered in May 2009 and I got the price of my extras effectively for free. So, convenience pack, Monzas and paint. £1000 or so. Yet Leeds VW said I would have to pay list so it clearly varies from dealer to dealer.
-
Yes you did say it Martin ha ha ha
^ Sorry to disapoint guys but you must be mixing me up with someone else regarding this. I've never had a problem with non ACC or questioned retroffiting it. I've refered to the BM 1M sports being back breaking in the past but never the golf chaps.
-
IMHO if your ordering a factory order at the current GTI prices you have to be mad to not spec ACC on such an expensive car. As there will be times i wish i had it.
-
Dummer36: You crack me up. Now go forth and multiply in your suitably unnatural habitat.
I would have expected a more eloquent retort than that from you. That reply was positively rural.
-
dummer36: I had to drop my standards for you.
-
Even a GTI running on 19" is not a bad ride... some people just talk alot of crap.
-

Asker: (I presume your virtual friends call you that because you are as thick as sh1t) Kind of you. For once I understood what you were on about.
-
The interior has still not been fully cleared up to my knowledge.
Is it the normal GTI leather option, or something else?
The press release for UK states, 35 logos stiched on the vienna leather, and on the website model comparrison it mentions leather + honeycomb cloth, which sounds like the Euro half leather spec with 35 logos.

Thank you for proving me right all along by using language that defines both of you perfectly.
The saying language maketh the man is so true.
May I venture to ask if either of you has used ACC over a sustained period on our broken tarmac?

I havn't used ACC for a long enough period to give it proper evaluation, but your original comment stated that Golfs with 18" wheels without ACC were undrivable. I, like so many others with 18" wheels and no ACC find the ride perfectly acceptable.
-

You have to try and stop using abusive words and language that define you so perfectly.

why would i need to use ACC over a sustained period?? You may want to re-read what I said... "..a GTI running on 19" is not a bad ride"
just to add... have you run a gti on 19" wheels?? It must be so horrible to drive a golf on 19" wheels... must be why VW offer them as an optional extra
-
on my scirocco acc came as standard and its really only noticable to me when hard cornering. imo
i have 19 inch wheels and the ride is fine to me with comfort or sport on

I wrote sometime ago about the ride difference of two GTIs with 17" and 18" wheels.
From:
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=192717.0
Yesterday evening, I had the opportunity of driving a white 5 door Mk6 GTI with ACC and 17" wheels shod with Bridgestone Potenza tyres. Needless to say, I compared it with mine which is very similar but has 18" wheels and Bridgestone Potenza tyres.
Both cars had full tanks of petrol and the tyre pressures checked when cold. I also had a Bruel & Kjaer sound level meter to hand. Both cars have done approximately 3500 miles and tyre wear was exactly the same. We drove the cars in 'Normal' and 'Comfort' modes.
This is what we found:
(1) The 17" wheels poduced less noise by approximately 1.7 dB(A) averaged over a couple of measurements. They really felt quiter. We did not conduct dB SPL measurements or a 1/3 octave band frequency analysis.
(2) The 17" wheels produced a more compliant ride in both 'Comfort' and 'Normal' modes. There was much less crashing over sharp ridges.
(3) We also found the ride in 'Normal' mode with the 17" much more acceptble.
(4) In 'Comfort' mode, the 17" produced a magic carpet ride.
(5) The 18" wheels prduced very slightly better handling for me (very subjective), though my friend preferred the ability of the 17" in this respect.
(6) The 18" wheels looked infinitely better.
Therefore, and hopefully logically, the above observations should provide some inkling of the difference in ride between 18" and 19" wheels and the benefits of ACC.
What is clear, for me at least, is that ACC is a must have and valuable option.
-
if you want a smooth ride, then buy something that is not fitted with sporty suspension... simple
-

And because that's what you think, everyone else has to agree?
-
Gilly: With ACC in 'comfort mode', my GTI's ride is smooth enough for me.
-

I am sure it is...
For me I like my GTI on 19" with no acc and the tyres over inflated

Go on ........................... you dare devil
Anyway, Mr Kane should get 19" Glendales with his Ed35 + ACC.
-
I just didnt like the idea of having to fix it, if or when it breaks, I like the idea of cheaper shocks, at replacement time.
-

I keep checking mine is working!
Car will be changed first or second quarter of 2013, so I am not too worried.
-
I'm going to stick my 4 penn'orth into the 19 inch argument (oo er missus). I've been in Gilly's GTi with the 19s and I thought it was bloody marvelous. Admittedly, the Revo helped put a smile on my face but the ride was fine and I can assure you the roads of Leeds aren't great.
I test drove a VRX Astra on 19s before I bought my GTi and that was a lot firmer but I still didn't think it was that bad and could certainly have lived with it.
-
Ive been watching some you tube bids and now after seeing one in red with the glendales it's got to be to be
Tornado red
Glendales
Rcd510
Dynoaudio
Not fussed about acc I'm sure Vw are perfectly capable of making a car drivable on 19s plus red with black looks evil check this vid

Mr. Kane, Sa!
I would not put so much faith in the Golf's suspension shod with 19" wheels on our broken British tarmac. ACC is a small price to pay for the excellent flexibility it provides. Do try before you finally buy if you can. But as is always, ETTO.
Your colour choice is most commendable. The Red brigade will welcome your Ed35 with open arms. Additionally, I'm glad you chose Dynaudio, which is excellent value for money.
All the best and hope you don't have too long a wait.

Exact same spec I'm interested in too, its just the price I've got to sort out now.......
Broadspeed are quoting about £600 odd of list for similar spec.

They are growing on me, i may end up just buying one as soon as they hit the showrooms as there are always dealers that will sell them. The only thing thats niggling me is i had a ed30 before and its almost exactly the same car/ the same feel to it i presume.
-
Report on Youtube didn't exactly do the car any favours, you may as well just get an ordinary GTI and map it, cheaper and better too possibly.
-
Depends on the spec really Amanda. If you're after a GTI with leather, bi-xenons and 18s the ED35 actually comes out a few hundred cheaper. When you throw in the little extra bits of trim you get with the ED it makes it a no brainer really as its resale will probably be a lot better.
:undecided:
-
If I was the market for a new car then it would be the ED35 , shall wait for ED40

It was purely down to VW waiting list, I took the Tig and with no regrets, but I could have stretched to 30k for ed35 and its a top motor I have to say. My old ed30 I still miss the poke on that

Takes a bit of work but you can get several k off prices no matter what dealers say.
My local one said no discounts for our gti but ended up with a good couple of k off in 2010 (but had to wait ages for the car).
Basically I went away called lots of car brokers for the lowest price then called around all the dealers in my area to see who would beat the lowest price. The no discount dealers soon knocked off cash. Don't think you have to be loyal to your local dealer as they won't do you any favours re low price.
I've just bought a new tiguan to complement the golf (delivery times on Tiguans are also about 6 months grrr!). My local dealer would only knock 1k off and asked me to come back if I got a lower price to give them last say- I ended up going to another vw dealer just out of the local area got almost 4 grand knocked off the price. Was funny as when I went back to my local dealer with the lowest price, they said "i'm not going to get caught up in a dutch auction" and had a right cob on as I went to the other dealer, yeah right as if I'm going to spend a couple of k extra on the price just because they are my local dealer! - lol
