Parked my car last night outside one of the local shops to get a pack of biscuits. Whilst I was in there paying, a bloke popped in, then ran out. Saw him get into a car and heard the "clack-clack" as he was quickly trying to put his seatbelt on.
As I got back to my car I heard voices from above! No, it wasn't a guardian angel but two wonderful people who had witnessed the guy hit my car. He had gone into the shop then obviously panicked and driven off. They had his Reg Number. They are my witnesses and are quite happy to make a statement if required.
He has been reported to the police and has likely been paid a visit by my colleagues in uniform.
Damage isn't huge, but my car is a very straight standard example. Oh well. Insurance job and a new rear bumper I guess...

My guess is he'd had a couple after work and wasn't sure if he was over the limit or not and thought he'd got away with it... Have a nice day you w4nker!

Karma for the witnesses. He will get his comeuppance
-
At least there was willing witnesses!
-
......has likely been paid a visit by my colleagues in uniform.
No, he hasn't.
In about one to two months he'll just get a letter in the post asking him to admit it or deny it, NIP.
-

Sorry to hear Mr B, hope they find him and he gets done for being a f@cking imbecile.

I draw your attention to the "colleagues" bit. I think he may have got a visit in double quick time imo.

No, you won't get preferential treatment as that peverses the course of justice. Nip in one to two months.
-
after that it becomes criminal damage
No it doesn't. All that will happen is he'll recieve a nip with charges for not stopping, leaving the scene of an accident.

The speed (or lack of) of any investigation is unlikely to be considered "preferential" and it would in no way "pervert" (I think that’s what you mean ?) the course of justice. Any NIP where issued would almost always be issued within 14 days and no charges would be laid until the identity of the driver had been supplied or established as part of any ongoing investigation into or in relation to any alleged offence !
To the OP, I hope it all works out O.K

Made, not laid. The charges they'd be looking to prosecute for are lined out in the NIP.
-
"Laid" is in relation to the laying of information in relation to an offnece. The laying of information ensuring the accused's presence before a magistrates' court resulting from an arrest warrant or a summons !
There is a difference between "intent to prosecute" and being "charged with" and "prosecuted for or in relation to" !

Yes, we all know that. Hence it's called a NIP, notice of intended prosecution.

I'll leave it as I don't want to "perverse" the course of this thread any further

Good lad

Malted Milk creams if that helps?
-
....or if its anything like my case, you will get a court summons for not producing your documents..... :lipsrsealed:

When the old dear across the road hit my car and didn't bother telling me I just phoned my insurance and let them sort it. Police weren't that interested that she hadn't bothered reporting it, just said they would go round and talk to her. She flatly denied it for months until she was about to be taken to court then suddenly admitted it
