Story starts and ends so far with VW
When i was 17 got a 300 pound mint condition red polo mk2 was wonderful until i couldn’t afford it so had to sell it that’s the early days in a nutshell
when 19 and being the manager of a pub had 1.4 untill the 10/05/2011
now 20, 2 years ncb! i decided to perchase myself this!
(http://i1042.photobucket.com/albums/b429/nero1701/mk3%20vr6/IMG_2377.jpg)(http://i1042.photobucket.com/albums/b429/nero1701/mk3%20vr6/CBJdg6QCGkKGrHqQOKjEzJugmvIDBNGfiQq2_3.jpg)
drove down today, left at 6am to drive 173miles down to London, got there got taken for a test drive funny thing was got pulled by cops, due to us drive down the road pulling into the garage then turn strait back out!
so they followed us blues and two's stopped ended up just asking why we did the strange act, basically said that i was going to buy the car, blar blar blar, so ended up speaking to them about golfs for a few mins!
to cut the story short ended up buying this for £955, and drove it all the way back to chester from bottom of london ended up taking 4+ hours in all, but worth it, car didn't miss a beat driving back even though managed to use 70 pound worth of fuel!
got it home about 6pm just had enough time to give it a wash and installed my hella quads, off my old 1.4 and disconnected the sub to install in the vr tomorrow! i shall also post pics tomorrow of what it looks like with quads on! thats all for now!
-
Them coppers were actually alright,

Them coppers were actually alright,
i know was surprised, well don't really have anything to compare with, but looking back on it now it did look strange, pulling into garage and out again after seeing coppers!

-
Nice car man, you last one looked spot on so I'm looking forward to seeing how this one turns out :afro:
Also you pay less on insurance for a VR at 20 2than I did in a 1.4 at 20  I'm still paying more at 22 :lipsrsealed: I hate this country sometimes
-
I'm looking on to see what becomes of this,
Glad it went to an enthusiast and forum member.

cheers dude, have many plans, just not promising anything super interesting till more funds are available

Good to see you cracked right on with the tweaking mate, Im quite liking the tweeter fitment and ive never seen them installed there before and id imagine they're not too badly positioned considering they're firing upwards towards the listener. Did you simply disconnect the dash mounted tweeters and re-route the cables to the door pockets?

no mate, currently have 6 tweeters and 4 woofers in the cabin, two tweeters in the front dash the two after market ones in door cards, also ones in back for rear passengers, which were installed by a auto lekky, beautifully in 2006 by previous owner, the ones in door cards run off the woof leads but there is a splitter behind the door card that sends high frequency to tweeter and low to woof! if you get what i mean!

as long as its cosmetic mods i have no need to declare, but anything that effects the BHP needs more information for the insurance company!

+1 on the matte grey. I was going to do that to my old valver. Although that was because the paintwork was a greyscale harlequin finish.

anyone know much bout detailing want some basic stuff to give it a good clean, and shine which will last 2 weeks max!
-
In the past 6 months that car's had
1.Claybar,
2.Meguires Deep crystal polish 2 coats
3.Meguires Paint Cleaner
4.Poor Boys Black Hole Glaze
5.Meguires Carnuba 2 coats
6. Megs Nxt wax
so it should shine up pretty well after just a wash

yh it did due after i got it home but even after what you explained i could feel small particles on the body work and when looking really close i could see them, recommend any routine or/and products to keep it gleaming which can be topped up every 2 weeks, bought car cover for it tomorrow, as it being sat on drive it picks up stupid amount of dirt!
-
If you can feel tiny spots on the bodywork, another claying session would be worth doing. It'll get rid of most of the rubbish that won't come off with washing. Including embedded bugs and the like. But if you clay you'll strip all the wax, polish and other products that are on the paintwork so you'd need to reapply polish and wax etc.

so whats the best starter products would you say from shampoo to wax and ect, as to be honest i know nothing about detailing!
-
You're better off grabbing the attention of the detailing gurus in the detailing section:
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?board=56.0
Plenty of threads in the that should answer any questions you have. For claying, I personally use Megs Clay Bar set, Autoglym Shampoo, Megs Polish and Collinite 915 Wax, however there are plenty of better products out there. Have a look and make sure you set yourself a budget.
-
Oh yes...budget indeed as some of that detailing shizzle will need a re-mortgage to fund.

cheers dude looking forward to using them, hopefully get a nice run though on Wednesday with them!

Get yourself some tar spot remover mate, you'll really notice the difference round the wheel arches and bottom half of the car - especially if your going to the trouble of claying.
-
have you got yourself a nice wax to protect your handwork once its all shiny?

Wax is after polish :)

Wax is after polish :)
cheers fella!

Wax is very dependant on what you're after. I like a durable wax so I use Collinite 915, others have there preferences. :)

Poorboys Natty Blue is good value!

i have a habbit of sticking with same products just purchase off amazon.
Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover
Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing
Autoglym High Definition Car Wax (had alot of good reviews)
i think my arson is now complete!
-
I was going to suggest Collinite 476s wax, i've had some very impressive results with it
personally the only Autoglym products I rate is the bumper care and glass polish. I'm sure the others are good I just prefer other products

honestly have not! found it noisy at all, actually its one of the quietest cars ive driven until you hit 4k on the revs! maybe exhaust is restricting as when 4k gets hit is more of a sweet engine note than anything else!
it does need de-catting and cat back exhaust though! all standard at the mo!

Does tinting the fogs affect their performance? I'm considering tinting my indicators and fogs like that, but am concerned they wont be as bright.
Cheers

If you use fly eye tint it shouldn't have an impact on light output
Smoked lights are looking mean btw Grand
-
Yea the car looks awesome, hence why I want to do my fogs and indicators like that, I'm not the biggest fan of quads but do see their appeal and think they look great on this car and sharki's.
I like the joey mod done on Dom's best, how is that done? have you tinted the lights as well as joey modded them? they look a lot darker then the usual ones you see.
Storm grey is definitely the coolest colour

i was thinking that noticed a few extra scratches, so not been using it recently just its a stone drive, so dust central! which is annoying!
-
yes mate you do right not to use it, dust lands on car, which u trap under the cover, then when the wind moves the cover, it rubs the grit thats landed on your car about = not good.
im real funny about what covers are good, theirs a few out their but they cost ££££
-
To remove the HT leads you should have a tool like this:
Can be bought here:
http://www.toolbox.co.uk/laser-3793-ht-lead-removal-3802-113183?utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=GB&utm_campaign=GoogleBase
They should have come with the car, attatched to the bonnet holder.

De cat will gain you very little plus it is needed for mot, schrick inlet manifold is a worthwhile mod but very expensive, why not pick up a ABA (corrado) 2.9 engine, check it over and fit new chains then drop that in, worth it for the extra torque, it will run ok on your 2.8 ecu but get it remapped.

Well yours is going to need the chains soon @ 120k and the engine will need to come out anyway so it is worth thinking about.

Save up for the re - map mate, deff worth it. Mines been re-mapped at AmD and it's on a different level compared to standard. Would recommend

was done 18k ago!
Save up for the re - map mate, deff worth it. Mines been re-mapped at AmD and it's on a different level compared to standard. Would recommend
how much that set you back mate! bit of a drive though down there!
-
Was done ages ago mate before i owned it - car came up from Cirencester (spelling?).
Theres a place near Leister that does them, I'll find the link for you tomorrow but should be looking around £250 for a stage 1 which is what mines got. I've got a rolling road print out in the file for 196bhp not long after it was done.

is that from standard or with other mods included!
-
No mate standard apart from K+N induction. Standard exhaust though. If your thinking of remaps i would personally fit an induction intake, corrado 2.9 inlet manifold and throttle body, and a decent exhaust system first - also a 6 branch mani. I rekon you'd be pushing out the horses after that and prob cheaper than buying a shrick.
As standard you will notice a difference with a remap even as much as the drive will be so much smoother etc.
The skies the limit mate, just depends on the dollar.
-
Good news that yours has had the chains replaced, :afro:

gave it a nice drive today, remembered the ride, its terrible its currently on standard shocks with 40 or 60 mm lowering springs, currently handles like jelly coilovers needed!!!!

downside to VR ownership, thirst... that would annoy me not having the funds to fill it up. I have enough trouble with mine!
MK3, jelly?... no way.

well i could fuel it just cheaper to use mrs car, but giving it a nice run to oswestry tomorrow going paintballing with the lads, well not fully like jelly it just cannot stand any sort of bumps, otherwise it bounces like an ocean liner!

Why not just fit a good quality set of shocks and keep the springs you have already got.

In that case try to avoid cheap / budget coilovers, not worth fitting on a VR as the engine weight will kill them quick.

Sad times but cars with motors like this are getting harder and harder ti insure for the young folk.... Why retirement from VW, couldn't you just get something more Insurance friendly?

Aye, you need to build up no claims and drive smaller capacity cars unless you're loaded. That way you're also not driving a seriously quick car when you are still daft enough to use the full power in an inappropriate place. Plenty of 8v's out there which will get you the look without the insurance premium. Or a Tdi....? :lipsrsealed:

yh, think its gonna be well under 1k for the insurance on the 1.3 saves buying new car aswell gonna re investigate the insurance when am 21! with 3 years ncb! but either way that means i can do few mods to the golf while im not paying the stupidinsurance for it!
plus got plans to move to manchester next summer so cash needs to be saved!
-
Eventually you could possibly look at getting another MK3 that's more insurance friendly, spend some the huge amount of insurance savings on modding the car to look and sit how you like then at a later date when the insurers love you, stick a transplant in.

Never build what you can buy. Waste of cash unless you can do it yourself quickly and easily. Plus if you mod' your car, even just wheels and suspension some insurers will either jack the price or refuse cover all together. It's bullsh*t but that's how they work it. Better off getting something like a Driver or such that looks the part (ish) but is stock and insure that for a year or two. Also bonus accelerator schemes are rip too. Also adding a more mature driver to your insurance provided they have a good driving history reduces premium. There is a link somewhere giving the grading of your postcodes too as that effects your premium.

There is a link somewhere giving the grading of your postcodes too as that effects your premium.
the way my insurance works is as long as its no modification that adds BHP there is no extra cost! also i would never transplant, as the shell and the engine is in to good conditions = NO f**kING RUST what so ever! so worth keeping it for the condition!

Shame you're so far away.
I've got spare pump and ECU here if it matches. I can't really sell them as the ABS light bulb was blown and the ABS didn't work and I never scanned it.
Could just have been a sensor so you'd be welcome to the other two bits just to try and yours if they worked.

Start of a few fixes and something big
