Thought I'd make a diary of murdering my Mk4 Golf..
When it came to me, it was a standard 2.0 GTI. I was pretty fussy and wanted a three door and for it to be black in colour which I soon found out are becoming pretty rare.. Anyway, came away with this black beauty and I'm not looking back!
As the car came to me:

Some more from the side:

Not in too bad nick I don't think..
The standard GTI alloys, sadly coming off ;)
And the interior which is looking pretty nasty tbh..

You might want to get a mod to move this into Dub Rides before people shout at your for it being in the wrong section

Bit of a background check on me: I'm a girl, 18, and this is my first real project, although I have already had two Mk4's before this one.. I knew this project would be done pretty slowly as I may have to wait to save money etc.. As I said before, I set out looking for a black, three door GTI because I want to murder it..
Anyway, I thought I'd start somewhere easy and costing nothing at all, Job 1 was to de-wiper my boot. Pleased to say, I managed it, even if I did get crazy with the plastic boot cover..
Next low costing thing was to tint my rear lights black- usually don't dig this look but everything on this beaut is going black so couldn't have it looking out of place..

Just a word for the theme: everything going black.. :)

The whole car completely blacked out, it can look awesome if done properly

That's the plan! Although I'm thinking something different for my alloys! Plus it doesn't really help the car being metallic opposed to just gloss black :undecided:

Yes!

Next thing that had to be done were the windows.. I know it's meant to be completely blacked out but I chickened out with 'Limo Black' on the front two windows because I can't be having any points on my licence.. :undecided:
Final decision: Limo Black on rear windows, dark smoke on front

Not keen on the tints :undecided:
-
I'm eagerly waiting for a few things before I can do any more on the beast. I've bought a set of coilovers on the internet and waiting for them to be sent and I've bought myself some Mk5 Monza II alloys for an absolute bargain on eBay so hoping to pick those up tomorrow too..
Plans for the month:
1. SLAM it
2. Get my Monza alloys powdercoated- cannot make up my mind what I want- whether I go for matte or gloss black and whether I should spray the inside of the alloys gloss red so you can see it through the spokes.. Or whether that completely buggers up my murder look.. WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK?!?
3. Get some adapters if I ever work out what bloody ones to get :undecided:
4. And a couple of niggly bits like replacing the rocker cover gasket and the oil sensor..
Pictures will be up soon to show you how it all went! :)
-
Not keen on the tints :undecided:
Ah, that's a shame :undecided: I've always like tints on Mk4's.. I think it really sets them off.

They're illegal.
Get them off before you pull out on someone because you didn't see them, you moron.

Firstly they're only illegal on the front two windows over a certain percentage.. Secondly, I'd appreciate you not calling me a moron- each to your own at the end of the day.. Fair comment on accidents but as long as you're sensible.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! :) And thanks for the advice.. Hahaha.. Ah make sure you get on a computer and let me know how you think.. Picked up my Monza II alloys today so keep watching for the next installment!

i guess you fully know the percentage of your front ones and if there legal or illegal, plus coppers will not give two f**ks if its a specific percentage or not, they will just tell you to take them off, but still depending on which copper!
not trying to burst your bubble just always worth you knowing that you are exactly right!

I can appreciate that. And it's true, they're all different.

Bit of a mission picking up my Monza II alloys but they're back home now. Really pleased with them. I know they need refurbishing but it never bothered me as I needed to powder coat them black anyway..
Monza II alloys (1- best condition out of all)
(2- probably worst condition out of all)

(4)

Now, I just need to sort out some tyres for them and get them painted.
-
Its not my car bud, someone from a local vw club, but he just slpit the lights and sprayed them matt black and sealed them back up again. Really cheap mod but makes a massive difference!
-
its also illegal for any part of your car other than tyres to make contact with the road, which a nice police officer pulled me for on my old mk2 few months back when front splitter scraped across the road infront of him as i left a car park, luckily by being pleasent to him and not giving him atitude got me left off with a warning. which id sugest would happen with tints.
end of the day if you drive like a twit then you will be pulled and anything used as a excuse to fine you, if you drive sensibly and dont give p.c plod attitude when he does pull you, you will probably get away with it
-

Keep up the good work, i've always wanted to murder out a Mk4, hopefully you can do it for me

More like 3 points and a £60 fine.
Still looks good though.
-
More like 3 points and a £60 fine.
And a prohibition notice, so you can't drive the car until the highlighted defects have been resolved.
This really isn't an 'it'll probably be OK if I'm nice' situation.
They're dangerous.
They're banned.
Those front tints will be way over the allowed percentage.
You're a moron for putting them on.
-
car looks good

the alloys would suit it when there on!

Only if your really unlucky and gone out of your way to argue! Probably be more a case of pull them off here and now before you drive off with the threat of a prohibition notice. lol.
-
whilst i agree with most negative points about tints here...
They're dangerous.
i have to disagree with this one.
i'm (temporarily) driving about in a mk4 golf just now with limo black rear tints and light front tints
- yes they are horrible looking
- they attract a certain demographic
- no doubt the car attracts more attention from police as well
however the difference in visibility is marginal. it took me over a week to even notice that the fronts were tinted, and it was only when i put the window down and saw where the film started.
in my opinion they are illegal not from a safety point of view (this may be an excuse by police) but rather so they can monitor the road users - stop folk gabbing on phones/smoking joints when driving etc etc
if it wasn't for the fact i am selling it in a few weeks i'd have them off. simply can't be bothered.

Haha. Thanks for the positivity! never thought something like window tints would be so controversial.. Lol. Fair enough that everyone has their opinions though..
Thanks for the link, looks good! I saw a Mk5 murdered in Performance VW and ever since then I've been itching to do it on a Mk4.. It's gonna really get going this month.
Keep looking out for this thread- bought my alloys and will be doing them soon and would love to know what you think of them.. thanks again for your words!

Ah thanks for the tip mate.. Sounds good to me- just don't know whether I want to put black angel eyes in it..?
-
Black film over fronts like the cool wide mk3 in the dub rides page they're sellin it for 20 quid

Have a look at my headlights in my sig pic, i've split them and painted some of the insides black then covered the outside in tint film as well
Actually here's a better pic:

Just to stir it up some more, your rear lights are also illegal.
Some other MK4 on Traffic cops got done for it, no working reflectors anymore.
Not hating, I'd risk it and run them personally but just a heads up.
Looking good though!

I got pulled over and cautioned years ago for running heavily tinted lights on a mk3 fiesta xr2i. Apparently they didnt let enough light through, which was a fair comment! But hey i was 18 and we all make mistakes.
If i were going to tint those mk4 lights, i'd only tint the reverse and indicator sections. I know theyre already OE tinted but you could make them darker without upsetting anyone, plus the leaving the tail/brake sections red might break up all that black...

Yeah I know they are.. Obviously I wouldn't let the police know that  They do let enough light through when I'm breaking etc, but as you say not seeing the reflectors is a no. You can buy some to just stick on to the lights but I'm not that bothered really.. Where I live, the police do a lot of looking but not much pulling. TOUCH WOOD

I see what you're saying about breaking up the colour- I really like those half tinted lights you're going on about, but, it just wouldn't be murder if I had any other colour on it really.. I'm also having an issue with choosing whether I should put red on my new alloys or just have them completely black..?
-
This, but with headlight and less in-your-face rear light tints is pretty sick IMO.

Speak to the guys at Bespoke Devision on headlight tint, they have their own stuff which is only £20.
Ok now that the lights were black from the back it was time to smoke the headlights, indicator, dummy & fog lamps.
I used bd's headlight tint film this is much darker than some other films out there
(we stock this at all times 12"x24" for £19.99 + p&p)
As all the lights were stripped out I added a 501 bulb holder with a orange smd bulb to each indicator which I wired up to the side lights which were also changed to orange.

I usually hate bonnet vents/scoops etc, but i LOVE that bonnet vent. Shame its not bonded on properly

I guess at the end of the day if you're happy to run the car like that it's only you that has to drive out. Out of interest, have you declared every mod on your insurance, tints, sprayed lights etc? If not you're driving without insurance...

Car's looking rude! Pretty impressed. I'm not into matte black painted all over cars- just my preference- but still impressed when I see something like that.. I'm really not bothered about the controversy over my tints. It works for me and I like it, and I never complain or won't complain when I'm pulled!

Thanks for that mate.. I do like the look but I'm not sure whether I'd have the guts to drive past the coppers with black headlights. Will bear it in mind though- definitely a cheaper way of getting what I want! Thanks again.

Of course I'm fully insured!! Fully comp as well, I may add. I think that was a bit of a rude assumption that I haven't and I think I'm fully aware that not declaring any of these mods means that my insurance is void!
-
Go for Fly eye tints dude! http://www.flyeyeskit.co.uk/ (http://www.flyeyeskit.co.uk/)
for me the rear tints would look better if they wernt so dark, buuuuuut, your car innit. tints look good, just get it slammed on its arse :afro:
-
Wasn't suggesting you're not insured, just to remember to declare each mod. It's so easy to forget the odd one or two, I've done it myself, and insurance companies will look for any reason not to pay out
It's a good job I didn't assume you had no insurance, wouldn't want to be rude

sh!t, no I haven't. What's the penalty for that?!??

So this morning, I've just bought:
- black Angel Eyes
- a debadged mesh grill
- and a pair of black side repeaters.
My coilovers are stuck at the Post Office  so I will have to wait until tomorrow to get them- hopefully they'll be open then?! And will hopefully be getting my Monza's sprayed at some point. I'm so impatient.
A pretty big month for me on the car front.. Will post pictures up when I've installed it all
-
This is moving very quickly! I had my mk3 over a year and only got round to lowering and changing the exhaust!

Half of this is that I'm a very impatient person and like things done :) and the other is that I want it done for the summer to take it to some shows!

Sadly, they weren't my coilovers sitting at the post office- boo  so still waiting for them to be delivered! (Thanks to all these bank holidays we're getting  )
Good news is that I'm getting my wheels sprayed as I speak by the best ever neighbour- he used to be a panel beater so is very good at spraying etc, along with everything else, and does it as a favour rather than charging £50+ per wheel! Wheels should be done today/tomorrow- seen one finished- and MINT is not the word! Have got photos but I don't want to spoil it until they're sat on my car :) well maybe I will when they're all done
Also, I'm sure you all will love this, but I have decided to get rid of the tacky tinted rear lights- if they were more mirror-like and glossy which is how I had planned them, I may have kept them on, but my attempt of spraying them just doesn't do my car justice. Plus, what with putting red in my wheels I think it will all come together better if there's red in the rear lights too. I'm planning on getting half smoked crystal rear lights :) and at £70 for the pair- don't think this is too shabby at all!
Some people won't say this is 'murder' but I'm making this my own and unique.

Better that way anyway.
Setting out to make a car fit directly into one category and one category only is fail.

My black angel eyes turned up today along with the smoked side repeaters.. Haven't a clue where my coilovers have got to?! :undecided: Anyway, I was going to fit my angel eyes tonight but I think it's a bumper off job so thought I'd best save it for the light.
Wheels are looking pretty mint tbh. Pretty chuffed how they've turned out- wasn't sure what I wanted was going to work out but it really has! Just need to buy some adapters so I can actually get them on my car! Should be getting them tomorrow night and there will be photos- I just can't hold back
Kbye for now!

Angel eyes were fitted last night (y)
Not 100% working though :/ something to do with the wiring.. Dipped lights are working perfectly, along with fogs and when I flash but on drivers side, when I put main beam on, the indicator light stays on rather than main beam light going on, but other side works perfectly.. I've had a few issues with the same indicator though.. Looks like I'll have to replace the bit inside the stalk because the connection's dodgy. Don't know if this is causing the problem with the angel eyes or not? If any one knows, please let me know.

I'm in 2 minds about the wheels, my head says they shouldn't work but I think they will probably look awesome when on!

I felt exactly the same way. When I put one next to the wheel, I wasn't too sure at first, but it is growing on me. I know I like them on Mk4's- have seen a couple on here, but I think cus my car is like a metallic and the black on the wheels in straight black it doesn't merge as much as I wanted. I think I need to get the tyres on and then see :) might take the car for a full respray to sort this niggling feeling out

ive got a good feeling about the wheels! different, but i think theyll look great on the car! more pics please

Yes! I like em!

Me too, although gloss black wheels always look naff when the tyres start to perish. Matt or satin might have been better :undecided:

Yeah, I was thinking matt/satin for ages, but the upkeep would have been dreadful, not prepared to keep spending money on maintaining them, but yeah agree on that one!

Or just keep on top of them with tyre cream, keeps them nice and black and shiny! 8)
Not keen on the wheels, would have looked better all black imo but it's your car ;) :D

Not sure on the wheels :undecided:
Good job it's not your car then. :afro:
