it's the only way for a daily these days!... sad isn't but at least diesels have advanced over the years and I like your choice.  Mines not a dub but at the moment its quicker than the golf and does nearly 3 times the mileage per gallon when driven the same way!

I suppose I better start washing it properly now.

Since the last update I have also replaced most the wood trim with base spec black trim , fitted some eibach springs and replaced a load of the bushes on it.

from what i have read, up to 52 plate the light deffo won't come on. 03 onwards it might come on but mine hasn't touch wood. Feels a bit livelier now and is a lot nicer pulling from low revs but i put that down to the inlet diameter previously being reduced by about a third by all that crap

you know how small jobs turn into big ones...

well the rear washer was leaking behind the c pillar. I took it off in my lunch break and decided it would be a good idea to remove the headlining and all the cream bits and spray them black at the same time

autoglym black dye spray should be turning up tomorrow so that's my lunchtime project sorted for the next week!

really wouldnt bother with the dye mate! i wasted £30 on the stuff, it just staid grey :\

iv satin blacked mine and it looks good!

Title: Re: mk4 pd150
Post by: VeeDubGTI16v on 22 February 2012, 21:15
the dye seems ok so far! the only trouble is its taken 3 cans to do the a and b pillars
Title: Re: mk4 pd150
Post by: VeeDubGTI16v on 18 March 2012, 16:20
so, I switched over to paint after I worked out how much it would cost in dye

all the fabric is done minus the door seals, and still have the plastics to do, but will do these one at a time over the next month or so when i'm bored on lunchbreaks. Its a weird mod, when it was all cream it annoyed me but now its black I don't notice it

so, i have been having boost leak issues for ages now. It started with the pancake to i/c pipe wearing out, pipe replaced, then the cold side of the i/c pipe wore out, pipe replaced, then the i/c outlet cracked! so its been zip tied together for a while now pissing out air.

queue a new intercooler, sfs pipe ends, and some jb weld

I cleaned up the surfaces to be glued and sandblasted them at work, and left them in some acetone so there would be as good a bond as possible.

tada!

so the only sh!tty clipped join is the turbo outlet now, hope that one doesn't leak! i'll fit it all on saturday

oh, and last week the clutch slipped a few times  haven't even remapped the bloody thing

will have to find the reciept but think it was just shy of £300

next up is dampers, which don't really damp much anymore, have my eye on some billy b4's to go with the eibach springs

hoping i can put the clutch off for a while after seeing the cost of the sachs performance ones   it seems to be manageable atm! Basically it just means there's a certain hill on my way to work i can't overtake up anymore.

But if the clutch gets changed it would be rude not to remap it

new front assembly-

goes here-

air con needs regassing now
Title: Re: mk4 pd150
Post by: Steve_PD on 24 March 2012, 18:00
No point buying a sachs performance clutch if your only going for a remap. my standard clutch last over 70k after having my car mapped and died at 144k.

I still got my sfs kit sat here waiting to go on...... Might do it next year sometime :lipsrsealed:
Title: Re: mk4 pd150
Post by: VeeDubGTI16v on 24 March 2012, 18:03
oh really! i was under the impression it was needed

how much are the standard ones?
Title: Re: mk4 pd150
Post by: Steve_PD on 24 March 2012, 18:12
I paid £325 for a sachs clutch kit and sachs flywheel.

Its not needed, especially at the price they charge for them now  Its needed if you're going hybrid but not for just a map
Title: Re: mk4 pd150
Post by: VeeDubGTI16v on 24 March 2012, 18:17
gotcha

it deffo won't be getting more than a map, just want to put the bigger brakes on it now and maybe a front arb to go with the eibach rear, oh and a tt rack would be nice
Title: Re: mk4 pd150

Nice thread going mate. Looks awesome after Guy sorted it, what 'package' did you opt for?

Did you fit the pipe work your self? If so what kit etc, or was it a made up custom kit?

Title: Re: mk4 pd150
Post by: VeeDubGTI16v on 19 April 2012, 19:36
cheers, yeah its the take out the swirl marks package whatever that is  Guy's work is top class though, all I do is wax it every couple of months now and it still looks awesome. The bastard made me buy a sheepskin mit to wash it though

Sfs pipework throughout, yep fitted it myself. Still need to get round to making some better fixings for it as you lose all the mounting points as per the original pipework. It also makes the pancake pipe have some weird resonance that is a bit annoying with the window down. Might try sticking a bit of sound deadening on it.

if you want to go with the sfs, quote uk mk4's and get a 25% discount
Title: Re: mk4 pd150
Post by: scarr89 on 19 April 2012, 20:44
 The sheep skin mitts really make a difference from cleaning it with the standard (http://www.kehoemarine.ie/product_images/w/006/wire-brush__54417_zoom.gif)  eh

The SFS pipe is on my list...I will replace the standard pancake pipe with one from the 1.8T, I helped my bro do this on his 130 and it such a better piece of kit, just joined it with some silicone. You mention weird ressonance, I'm sure someone else said about this in some thread a while ago...interesting

Thanks for the tip, but I'm on ukmkivs so I didn't need your help

What is next on your list mate?

Title: Re: mk4 pd150
Post by: VeeDubGTI16v on 19 April 2012, 21:10
yeah its weird, its not vibrating or rubbing on anything but if you put the lightest pressure on the back of it with your finger it stops  haven't heard about the 1.8t pancake pipe but will have a look into it!

next mod will probably be a 23mm front arb, which i believe is the r32 one, and whenever that gets done put the tt bushes on the sub frame.

oh and forgot the good news, clutch slip has dissapeared  its healed itself!!!!  don't want to upset things so the remap has been removed from the list of things to do (booooo!)
Title: Re: mk4 pd150
Post by: scarr89 on 19 April 2012, 21:20
Interesting...

http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/413937.aspx?PageIndex=1

I know the above will be different for the 150's but replacing the pancake pipe should be similar!! The size difference is amazing as well!!

Change the clutch for a standard one, smash the remap...The difference is ridonkulous!
