how do you clean yours?
bearing in mind that mk6 windscreens are different from everyone elses windscreens obviously...
half a spud and wipe with news paper
You go in the detailing section and it's like a willy waving comp of who's got the best and most expensive gear to do a basically very simple job. We live in the UK not California. It's cold most of the year and wet all of the year, and the light is crap. What's the point in having 2 millions quid's worth of cleaning gear when 5 mins later your car is covered in road debris and seagull sh!te?!!!
Exactamente.
Why haven't the mods sent this to the detailing section? They're normally so particular!
It's a Mk6 windscreen. So it's in the right place.
please stay on topic and provide useful and helpful replies on how you keep your windscreen clean, cost effectively...

On the passat you need to use special cleaner as vw fitted special glass to the top of the range model's :lipsrsealed:
Ok I use autoglym glass polish and it works perfectly
-
+1 with the autoglym
or i steal my mates stuff he uses for the race cars!
-
Autoglym
Then every couple of months I use the Carlack Sealing kit
-
I use my wipers on my cars that are not MK6 golfs
-
I wondered where this ended up.
You'd be proud of the restraint I employed in not replying to the OP with some handy tips.

Does cleaning the glass with said products really make a difference chaps?
I just clean mine with my usual car shampoo and then wipers + spray when it gets dirty on the motorway. Seems to work fine for me . . . :undecided:

Try some and see for yourself
Car shampoo tends to leave an oily film / residue. Using stuff like Autoglym will leave it streak free and looking like glass
-
I think what Ryhso is trying to say is....shampoo looks like someones shat on you screen compared to autoglym
-
megs nxt and ag fast glass are ok, and do the job, but imo, surely a glass cleaner should be water repellant? ill be trying rainX next
www.RainX.co.uk
-
I've heard mixed things about RainX as i was going to try it, apparently it's not the easiest to apply but does what it says on the tin by reducing the need for wipers BUT when you do use your wipers it smears quite badly. I haven't tried it so i can't confirm anything though, let us know how you get on mate.
-
I use autoglym glass polish, then rainx.
My windscreen has seen better days though, it's very scratched and has a feck load of tar on it, when the sun is low visibility is so low!
-
Just cheap glass polish, seems to do the job fine.
-
AG, and glass polish, cant remember the name.
I also won some Megs glass cleaner at the rtech raffle but its not great. Carlack maybe twice a year :afro:

This isn't 'that' thread fella.. That was for mk6's only as apparently they're different. No, this is a thread for those who spend gadzillions on cleaning products who can provide sensible advise only...
Me.. I use carlack glass sealant for sealing and Autosmart glass cleaner for a quick once over.. Doesn't smear.
Suggest never cleaning glass in direct sunlight... You'll be there forever!

stupid question, but how do mk6 windscreens differ?
for some reason i have what looks like small black grit on the inside of my windscreen that wont come off, like somebody has welded in the car and not covered the screen :undecided:
would rain x not smear if it was applied lightly?
-
Washed the car this morning and gave the front and back a clean with whiter vinegar. Ill report back on how successful it was.
Who needs fancy products, fooking stink though :D

I was the inside normally with Malt Vinegar and screwed up news paper lol!! Stops them steaming up so much lol!!!
But yeh the smell!!!!!
-
f**k doing that on the inside ! It would smell something rotten. It was bad enough outside. AC will stop them steaming up.
-
i take it to the dealer  :lipsrsealed:
windowlene for me though, takes a load of effort tbh, but its cheap and it comes out of the house budget if its cleaning products that aren't directly for the car

They're under warranty, have 2000 years of finance left on them and are owned by cool people.
Personally I'm still using the job lot of genuine Audi stuff I bought at GTI International about 10 years ago when they were flogging bottles of it for about £1 each. It does the patio doors and TV screen too!!!

Alan, I'm hardcore
