They're now officially gaining value, it would seem - look at the prices on mobile.de and autoscout.

If anyone is serious let me know and I can go look at it.

That's very good of you.... I so would if I was dubless right now!  It's probably the only other golf  I would consider as well as a Mk1.

 not at all, there's plenty I don't like about it but if it's solid, the rest is easy. That motor would be the first thing to go.

You lack vision.

You probably need a lift in mine some time.

why? 89 bhp, 5 door, poverty spec Golf's your thing?

It already has a slight improvement - 8V G3 motor in it.  Meh though.

Look how much unmolested ones are being hawked about for on the continent:

http://bit.ly/fg6RFe

If I were looking now I'd be more interested in this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1995-VW-Mk3-Golf-2-9-VR6-AWD-Syncro-White-/320639362458?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4aa798659a)

Yes, all 650 UK market Syncros were five door.  LHD ones were available in 3-door.

The 4WD should balance out the boat-anchor.  I'd be very interested in how this handles.

Damn!!

If only I had the space!

I'd love a Syncro, but I am loathed to get rid of the mint MK2 shell I've dry stored for the last 12 years.

Shame.

Probably a good thing, i'd end up trying to copy DH

Is it me or did DH just say he would be interested in a mk3 with a VR in it (regardless of the 4wd) and no-one else picked up on that??

Could you get that setup too fit in the mk2 ? Minus the vr, abf instead.

only if you make a transmission tunnel for it...  a lot of fabrication involved for a standard mk2

'that set up' is what I have under my Syncro.

Fitting it to a Corrado would only need the boot floor to be replaced and some minor bracketry to be nailed on.  With a blower on it that would be pretty ultimate looking.

Is it me or did DH just say he would be interested in a mk3 with a VR in it (regardless of the 4wd) and no-one else picked up on that??

Do keep up.

You've clearly not been paying attention as the tax-free age thing was fixed at 1973 (IIRC) and you have also failed to spot the cpas lock on your keyboard.

Sharpen up, Stevie.

Stop shouting....

Sadly that's rubbish mate... That used to be the case a long time ago and I wish it were true still but now it only applies to cars constructed prior to 1973.

And that's not really a lot of cash for a 23 year old car if the car is worth it... I've paid twice that and more for a car of similar age.

With great weight comes great slothfulness.

lightend 16v syncro v's tuned G60 rallye off the lights is very funny.  as the rallye get an outright spanking

And all the reinforcement in the shell VW put in for homologation for rallying.

That's kinda the biggest issue.
Title: Re: SYNCRO MK2 GOLF SPOTTED
Post by: danny_p on 08 January 2011, 19:14
rallyes also tend to be highly specked with toys and trim and that adds more weight as well.

Still prefer a rallye regardless how super the syncro is I like rallyes

syncro's are good for playing with. there much cheeper than rallyes and easyer to fix if you bin it.

ofcourse if a rallye shell turns up i will use as my track hoar and upset people who would prefer to polish it

Title: Re: SYNCRO MK2 GOLF SPOTTED
Post by: Diamond Hell on 09 January 2011, 09:19
No, normally they nail 20VT motors into them (badly too, normally).

There were 5000 built, for homologation purposes.

This should bring up Mobile.de's current list of those on sale:

http://bit.ly/eC5PpJ

There's a period turbo conversion and a 2.0 TFSI 4Motion converted one on there at the moment.
Title: Re: SYNCRO MK2 GOLF SPOTTED
Post by: danny_p on 09 January 2011, 17:59
Badly installed 20VT's are all to common,   someone buys it off ebay drives it it breacks and they then look at what they've bought and think OH COCK and brake it to try and get there money back.

Not in the UK, unless it's a Country.  Syncros were only ever 1.8 carb GU code motor in the UK.
