-
i dont think that's a lot. (more than i can afford though, dont get me wrong)
-

They're now officially gaining value, it would seem - look at the prices on mobile.de and autoscout.
If anyone is serious let me know and I can go look at it.

That's very good of you.... I so would if I was dubless right now! It's probably the only other golf I would consider as well as a Mk1.
-
why? 89 bhp, 5 door, poverty spec Golf's your thing?
-
Could have at least ABF'd it.
Proper tidy though
-
Got mine for just over a grand and its mint !!! engine aint up to much though, but theres no welding on it like this one !!!
-

 not at all, there's plenty I don't like about it but if it's solid, the rest is easy. That motor would be the first thing to go.
-
I think it looks sh!t

You lack vision.
You probably need a lift in mine some time.

It already has a slight improvement - 8V G3 motor in it. Meh though.
Look how much unmolested ones are being hawked about for on the continent:

If I were looking now I'd be more interested in this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1995-VW-Mk3-Golf-2-9-VR6-AWD-Syncro-White-/320639362458?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4aa798659a)
Yes, all 650 UK market Syncros were five door. LHD ones were available in 3-door.
-
!!!!!!!! PARTS !!!!!!!!
-
Id love a 4wd mk2 dont get me wrong, just dont like that one
-
"this" has a 3 grand reserve, think i will stick with my bad choises !!!
-
H'mmmm.
The 4WD should balance out the boat-anchor. I'd be very interested in how this handles.
-
Damn!!
If only I had the space!
I'd love a Syncro, but I am loathed to get rid of the mint MK2 shell I've dry stored for the last 12 years.
-
I'd like one but I'd have to get rid of the heap and I can't because I'm too attached to it!
nick
-
Where theres a will theres a way !!! rent a garage, ive got two now!!! simples
-
It's not just space but cash as well, I can barely afford to run 2 cars let alone 3!
nick
-
I've got the space for it, the only thing thats stopping me is a lack of £1400 spare cash and an unfinished project...
Shame.
Probably a good thing, i'd end up trying to copy DH
-
Dont bother trying, i fell at the first hurdle !!!

Is it me or did DH just say he would be interested in a mk3 with a VR in it (regardless of the 4wd) and no-one else picked up on that??
-
He's always said it's the only G3 to own.
Nick
-
Could you get that setup too fit in the mk2 ? Minus the vr, abf instead.
-

only if you make a transmission tunnel for it... a lot of fabrication involved for a standard mk2
-

'that set up' is what I have under my Syncro.
Fitting it to a Corrado would only need the boot floor to be replaced and some minor bracketry to be nailed on. With a blower on it that would be pretty ultimate looking.

Do keep up.

Soz dad.

You've clearly not been paying attention as the tax-free age thing was fixed at 1973 (IIRC) and you have also failed to spot the cpas lock on your keyboard.
Sharpen up, Stevie.

Stop shouting....
Sadly that's rubbish mate... That used to be the case a long time ago and I wish it were true still but now it only applies to cars constructed prior to 1973.
And that's not really a lot of cash for a 23 year old car if the car is worth it... I've paid twice that and more for a car of similar age.
-
Not my cup off tea if im honest and I would rather just buy a rallye instead but I spose if your on a budget and want a 4x4 golf its good value.
-
Rallye is a lot heavier.
With great weight comes great slothfulness.

And only available in LHD with a slower 0-60 than a standard mk1. :lipsrsealed:
-
And has a grenade strapped to the front of the engine.

So you do get more bang for your buck at least.
-
Shame its only an 8v
-
Shame its only an 8v
16V just bolts up, Len.*
* additional parts and extensive custom fabrication may be required.
-
Love the above post and I think the car is cheap would love a synchro for scene points.
-
Do you get point
-
lightend 16v syncro v's tuned G60 rallye off the lights is very funny. as the rallye get an outright spanking
-
why are rallyes much heavier ? both 4wd, is it the charger on the rallye?
-
The f*ck off body kit
-
And all the reinforcement in the shell VW put in for homologation for rallying.
That's kinda the biggest issue.
-
rallyes also tend to be highly specked with toys and trim and that adds more weight as well.
-
Still prefer a rallye regardless how super the syncro is I like rallyes
-
syncro's are good for playing with. there much cheeper than rallyes and easyer to fix if you bin it.
ofcourse if a rallye shell turns up i will use as my track hoar and upset people who would prefer to polish it
-
rare...pah! 3-door G60 syncro now thats rare!
-
For sure.
Another reason not to use one.
I would love to have a Rallye shell to play with.
Plain jane panels all round and an ABF FTW
-
do Rallye's come up often for sale ?? how many was made ??
-
very often actuay, uasally over priced but shells come up for reasonable money every few months
-
So do people strip them for the running gear and that then and just flog the shell ??
-
No, normally they nail 20VT motors into them (badly too, normally).
There were 5000 built, for homologation purposes.
This should bring up Mobile.de's current list of those on sale:
http://bit.ly/eC5PpJ
There's a period turbo conversion and a 2.0 TFSI 4Motion converted one on there at the moment.
-
Badly installed 20VT's are all to common, someone buys it off ebay drives it it breacks and they then look at what they've bought and think OH COCK and brake it to try and get there money back.
-
what do you mean by badly fitted 20vt ??
-
Upside down, so you can do 140 in reverse
-
that'd be cool
-
Thought i would post this in here as we are talking about syncro. I didnt know that they had made a vr6 mk3 syncro??? Looks nice though, will be watching to see how much it sells for
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1995-VW-Mk3-Golf-2-9-VR6-AWD-Syncro-White-/320639362458?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4aa798659a
Does anyone know how many of these where made???
-
Errr, I posted that link earlier in the thread, but never mind.
Quite a few is the ball park number - there's always a fair few bobbing about on the German Autotrader style sites.
Have a look - you can switch the language to English: www.mobile.de
-
Sorry DH only just scanned through the thread   treading on toes again
-
stripped a mk2 syncro a couple of years ago to get all the 4wd parts just in case my golf country ever gets any probs as,none yet so all still sitting there(better safe than sorry).engines are 1.8 gti 8v bit slower due to running the 4wd set up
-
engines are 1.8 gti 8v bit slower due to running the 4wd set up
Not in the UK, unless it's a Country. Syncros were only ever 1.8 carb GU code motor in the UK.
-
yes sorry was a GU,thinking of my country which is the 1P 1.8 inj but i expect it slower than a standard syncro as it lugs around loads of extra weight
-
He's gone National with it!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1988-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-GTI-SYNCRO-4x4-vw-/280614679904?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4155f03560
Still WAY overpriced.
-
what price would you have it up for ??
-
Sell it?
I wouldn't sell it!!
£4-500 - it's been welded etc.
-
I no that i mean if it were yours and you were selling it.. only like £400 ??
-
Yeah - for reasons I think I outlined at the start of this thread.
-
This is what you want :
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150547021066
Litte bit of tlc, will be a show stopper and less than £400 !!!!
-
thats just engine and transmission
-
since been used for light use off road
Spells death to most things...
-
LOL 400 for engin eand box LOL
the back diff, prop and rear driveshafts are about the only things worth anything. rod change gearboxes are made of chocolate and are actualy worth nothing i tryed for years to sell some of the spares FAIL
