Title: GTI / GTD Colours
Post by: branchespark on 31 December 2010, 14:45
I prefer the dark colours (Carbon Grey and Deep Black), but wanted to know the views of the team.

From the metallics in order of preference: Shadow Blue, Steel Grey, Carbon Grey.

From the flat colours in order of preference: Tornado Red, Candy White. Either is superb and does not cost extra.

Overall preference: Tornado Red. Outstanding but a real pain to paint match.

From the metallics, I find Shadow Blue very classy.

However, if your choice is between Carbon Grey and Metallic Black, definitely choose Carbon Grey IMO.

Metallic Black looks pretty good. Worries it might show up dirt, whereas Carbon Grey looks like it might cope better.

Does the metallic black scratch easy, or is that the non-metallics that are prone to that?

Cheers mate - New Years Resolution #1 - enroll myself on a digital photography/ IT web nightclass!

I went back to black after my Steel Grey Mk5 GTI.  Not sure how easy it will be to keep clean though.  First impressions - managed to wash it yesterday for the first time and it really shows any droplet water marks that you might have missed after drying.

Yeah mate - Deep Black.  I need to get a few protective coats of wax on her but the weather has just been so dire since I took delivery.

I will definitely ensure my next new car is ordered for delivery in the summer.

Where's my 'emotional' take on colours I posted at 1 am?  Hmmm. The New Year Fairy has been busy again.

Anyway, a bit more advice to the OP.

Most of us pay nearly 100% attention in selecting the external colour of the Golf and very little on the interior as there is hardly any choice. It's obviously not a premium enough brand but nudges with a premiun price. Pretty annoying.

Seeing that one spends most of one's time inside the car, is it not even more important to get the colour scheme inside to perfectly suit one's taste when this rare opportunity arises?

The OP in this case has, and I'd advise him to choose the colour of the interior leather very carefully and then decide on the outside colour. But please avoid a dark interior with a dark exterior colour.

Just a thought.

....... and here is a Tornado Red GTI in all its passionate glory.

Same colour chart for GTI/GTD. Total of 9 colours, 3 flat, 6 Metallic/Pearl.

Slightly different colour chart for R. Carbon Grey and Flat Black not available. Rising Blue available in their place. This colour not available for GTI/GTD. Total 8 colours, 2 Flat, 6 Metallic/Pearl.

You can actually get any colour Volkswagen.de list as an option. All you have to do is contact VWuk and get them to put in a special request. So the colour range is not as restricted as alot of people think.

You can put in a special order request with VW sales team at VW customer service to get it in any colour VW currently do.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your recent enquiry. I am delighted to learn of your continued interest in Volkswagen, in order to request a non standard colour on the order; the retailer will need to request a special build from the factory. If your retailer calls or emails our sales team then they can request this build from the factory.Regards

It's a shame that these colour options aren't in the golf brochure, it seems other European countries also get lots of options that we don't get here, for example electric memory seats.

Yes I posted those colours before Golf Colours (http://www.myturbodiesel.com/images/a5/buyg/golfcolors.jpg) so why aren't there 36 colours available?

I think the choice is crap when we only have 9 to choose from in the States they only have 7. I love blue and I love the Rising blue used on the 'R'. Why isn't it available for the rest of the range? The ONLY blue is the Shadow blue which is a bit dark because the bloke that called Blue Graphite Pearl blue must have been colour blind as its basically grey. It must have been a bloke because only blokes are colour blind.

Happy New Year guys. ;)

I love Shadow Blue more than Rising Blue.

Now you've probably upset Rolfe.

But I see what you mean, because it looks very similar, to my eyes, to Carbon Grey.
Title: Re: GTI / GTD Colours
Post by: Rolfe on 02 January 2011, 17:58
It's quite a subtle colour, and it's more blue than Carbon Grey, but I agree I'd have preferred it slightly lighter and slightly more blue.

Look at it this way.  Nine colours available.  Six monochrome (black, white or grey/silver).  One knock-your eye out red.  And two very dark blues.  Not much of a choice, really.

I've usually gone for metallic blues, and I didn't much like the Shadow Blue car I was shown by the dealer.  Might have been wrong.  The Blue Graphite is nice when it's clean and polished, which Prospero isn't at the moment!

My last car was a rather nice shade of gold, and although that was a Hobson's Choice situation as well, I liked it.  I think the choice VW give us with the GTi is pathetic.

Rolfe.

Well I has my dealer if I could have the Rising blue and they said no you can only choose the colours available for that model. Or is that the norm from dealers they don't know what they are talking about?

In Aus, we only get a choice of 5 colours, none of which are blue, the Rising Blue is only for the R, unless I wanted to wait for 3 months this was the only colour available, but I like the subtlety of the silver. but really wanted the Rising Blue.

It is as Asker posted with the colour chart, any of these colours are available but will cost you 2000+euros more.

When you have already paid almost £30000 for a new car having to pay extra for a particular colour liking is daylight robbery, but VW have us over a barrel and they know it.

I would have loved my GTI to be dressed in most of those lovely blue shades but no way was I gonna pay them any more of my hard earned wonga

Mind you in saying that I do love my Deep Pearl Black.

If you read the whole of my post, you'd have seen that I'd have preferred the colour to be lighter and more blue.

But still, in what way isn't it blue?

I saw a Passat in Shadow Blue and felt that was too dark also, and I liked the shade rather less.  I don't know what that is in your sig, but it's nothing like either the Passat I was shown as "Shadow Blue", or the sample colour tile in the showroom.

Anyway, Carbon Grey is very popular, and if the Blue Graphite isn't blue enough, then it's as much like Carbon Grey as anything!

Blue graphite is one of those subtle colours that looks great in the sun - same with shadow blue. Steel grey is underrated but I reckon looks great on the GTI. Although I think the Mk6 looks best in silver or red, I'd probably choose carbon grey. Or perhaps deep black...
