Title: 3yrs Servicing - £250
Post by: GolfTi on 16 July 2010, 21:10
I know a lot of you took up this offer.

I've done about 8K, my service interval is showing a service due around 13k (20k km??) which at this rate will be around the 18 - 20 month old mark.

Does this mean only 2 services?  VW seem to put all new cars on long life servicing and not time and distance at the moment.

VW say
This affordable solution manages servicing for up to three years or 30,000 miles (whichever comes first). Terms and conditions apply.

I'm not being overly cynical about this am I? I understood when I took this option that the first 3 services would be taken care of. Hope so.

IMHO GTI's (or any other performance car) shouldn't be LL servicing.

I had mine switched to T&D at the PDI so I get a true 3 services out of the £250

Somewhere it was mentioned that it is something to do with a letter on your log book mine has a Q so is that time and distance or long life?  My car says it was due a service at end of this month so is booked in for next week having done 6000+ miles only.

I know it isn't a very high mileage so I'm not too sure which it is, but I paid £250 for 3 years servicing.

I bought my GTI a month ago with 5,500 miles on the clock.

They offered me 2 yrs free servicing.  I thought my first service would be 10,000 miles?

I was told when i purchased mine, the car would be put on t&d because i'd paid for it. Regardless of what the car says you've paid for it so you should get it. End of!

Same here, I asked for T & D. The car doesn't agree. My main reason for this post is to ask people to check as my sometimes cynical mind thinks VW may be 'forgetting' to put people on T & D so they only have to provide two free services.

Phonecall to my dealer I suppose.

Its entirely up to the owner. If you want to take it in for a service using T&D as opposed to LL.

Not sure VW are being cynical as LL is every 18k miles so you could easily have 2 services in the 3 years and from what I have read they change / do more to the car in those regimes. In effect 2 LL services equal 3 T&D services.

^Hmm, thats interesting, i'll have to have a look in the service book, i never really thought about it like that.

I took out the £250 servicing on mine

If you take this option you should be on T&D, regardless of what the car is set on the display.  That way you get the three services in within the three years (or sooner).  1st service at 10,000 miles or 1 year, 2nd at 20,000 or two years etc.

In the service schedule book on the first page there should be a sticker with the car details on it, VIN number engine code and transmission code. Then there are 7 rows of numbers and characters further down. On the third row mine shows 3 characters then a space, three more characters the QG1, then a space and three more blocks of three characters. The other half of this sticker should be in the boot.

QG1 is the shorter 10,000 miles and the QG2 is longlife 20,000 miles service. These can be changed with VAG-COM.

Even if you have the long life service 20k its still 20k or 12 months which ever comes first so you sould still get 3 services in 3 years. I'm told that they should send you a service booklet with the details in it and this can take 4 months to appear, I'm still waiting for mine.

Now I've talked about these long service intervals on other VW forums. Just because it a longlife oil which is supposed to last for 20,000 miles doesn’t mean its any good for the long term life of the engine. One of the by products of combustion (petrol or diesel) is carbon that escapes past the piston rings. This carbon is being absorbed into oil, the oil is filtered but it still has impurities that are being pumped around the engine.

I opted for the service plan because a normal service will cost yout £150 (even for just the oil change) so while its under warranty for 3 years £250 is the better option.

Long Life service is 18K miles or 24 months, whichever come first.

^^ which would mean two or even one service for the £250.

Mine is showing 211 days (thats a total approx  500 since new) or 5k before the next service, that will make it around 18 months old.

I'll be taking it in for a service on it's first birthday anyway, just wondering how many on the service plan are being diddled.

Finally found the paperwork from my dealer for the £250 plan.

"Once you've made a payment of £250, your first 3 services are taken care of.'

12 months/10,000 Oil change service
24 months/20, 000 Interval service (including oil change)
36 months/30,000 Inspection service(including oil change) and brake fluid change.

So ignore what the service interval on the car says and take it in every 12 months. Make sure the 3rd service is just before the 3 years are up or you'll miss out.

I took out the 3 year servicing deal on my R. The dealer insisted the car was set to T&D, not longlife. I wasn't going to argue.

Ok I don't have that interval so you must be right.

Can someone just remind me how long this can be purchased after picking up the car?

90 days max. But remember it has to be processed by VWuk within that 90 days period  so a much shorter time in reality

Same here...

The thought of going 18000 miles on the same sump full of oil, fills me with dread.
Yearly service and oil change for me.

As I mainly drive in London town, up and down the Marylebone Road, stated as Europe's busiest city road, day-in and day-out, I will change my oil every 6 months and use Motul Specific 504 00 5W30. Best to be safe than sorry. I also run the engine for a minute or so before I drive off and before I switch off. Good for turbo engines I am told.

Oil change very 5000 for me.
I got the 3 years free servicing at time of purchase. Also getting the next oil change free, as the garage tech spilt oil on the engine bay when it was in at 5000. It's been a bit of a pain to remove so far

I was told by my dealer that VW would contact me re the details but they never bothered.
I phoned the dealer the other day as my 10k miles are now up and they have the same offer on albeit £1 cheaper for 3 years servicing. Probably run by most VW garages.

12 months/10,000 Oil change service
24 months/20,000 Interval service (including oil change)
36 months/30,000 Inspection service (including oil change) and brake fluid change.

Irrespective of what the service regime the car is coming from the factory set to that ^^^ is the T&D schedule.  :nerd:

Get it in to VW after 12 months and get the car set to T&D.

No 'performance' car should be on the same boggo LL regime as some crappy cooking Golf, IMO.
