trouble with this is in real life the proportions probably wont end up like that, have you merasured to see if the MK2 lights will even fit the space? afaik the mk3 lights arnt as tall for a start.

if you want to do it then go ahead and try it, dont listen to what we say :P

^^ It's not on there for style, it serves its purpose, it protects the bonnet from stone chips

I do a lot of driving on the A12/A14, and if you saw my grill you'd understand why it's on there

i did some recently, not on a car though, some 3M stuff, £20 would get enough for 2-3 bonnets + was easy enough to work with, just a thought.

When it was first done it was to be different now everyone is doing it its lost its amazement factor.

Vento fronts are over played and a bit out of date if you ask me.

Don't think you'll find anything close to a guide. I saw a post on VW Vortex once that explained the trouble in even getting the thing to fit. The shape of the arches, size of grill, length of the front, position of everything, etc, all pretty different. If you do try, expect an awful lot of modifying bits and maybe some fabrication  :lipsrsealed:
Title: Re: mk3 to mk2 front end??
Post by: boneybradley on 10 December 2009, 12:45
to fit you need

a mk2 front..
a huge tub of filler to blend and fill everything..
and bad eyesight!

Or you could go to a back street "chop shop" and get half a mk2 welded to half a mk3?

You're such a boring fart at times lol! People do it for the same reason the change the front end to a Vento, the MK4 to a Bora and so on, it's called choice, if people want to do it let them, not everyone shares your view

Missing the point, Vento front is a simple conversion, Bora front needs a lot more changed but again a simple conversion but to make a mk3 look like a mk2 is a large amount of work for something that is pointless, not just me view by the way.

Less of calling me boring by the way.

Yes but put yourself in Mike shoes, he has spent a lot on his car to get it to the standard it is now, so why not finish it off and fit a VR6.

However I cannot see the point of having a standard car and swapping engines when you could sell up and buy the same.

mike, dont matter to me, im not scene, i dont go to the shows and i dont hang out in car parks at meets, so it makes no odds to me if ya get me

got far too much other stuff on to do all that stuff, (which i did when i was 17 to 24)  i just put on my car what i personally like and they have a OEM feel, i did my caps myself for a different feel and had the refurb done in a unusual grey to keep them a tad different to most

but iv seen no other 3's in leeds with them so im all good :)

and they sell second hand for what you pay for them, = good investment

but d90s and TT comps are a far cry from a mk 2 fronted mk 3

found this ages ago, obviously a photoshop but it looks alot better than using the mk2 bits, just a set of twin headlights, a few standard grills and a bit of plastic welding, filling and a vento bonnet. only problem would be getting the single headlight chambers to act as sidelights dipped and high beams

I dont get it, if i wanted a MK2 front i would have bought a MK2.

Some of them do look like they have been done well.

As with car modding, each to their own.

Can I just say the reason I chose to become a dub nut was because in the dub world it was all about being diferant and trying cool and crazey stuff with your vw,s.
Like the first cars I saw going realy low were dubs and first time I saw low with wheels sticking out arches it was dubs. Camber shims I'd never seen till I become a dubber. Even the rat look and all these diferant things are why I become a dubber yet when ever I see anybody trying something diferant on this site no matter how simple or bigger job they get slated.

What has happened to the world LOL

Different isn't always good.

If in the pursuit of originality you make something ugly as hell, it's not gonna be aesthetically pleasing just because it's unique.

If have the utmost respect for people that pull off new things.

I hate Vento fronts! But quite like a Mk2 look!

A Mk2 is naff! They break down and rattle themselves to pieces!
Also they do not come with ABS or air-con.
So a Mk3 is far superior!

So a Mk3 that looks like a Mk2 is cool in my book!

Well a nice mk2 is still a better car, yes it might not have many fancy mod cons and lets be honest who need abs or air con, a mk2 is a better drivers car, handles better, lighter, looks better etc.

Before anyone shouts rust they are no worse than mk3 so the question remains why bother making a mk3 look like a mk2

Well both are VW Golfs and in some cases were built in the same year so I think a comparable opinion on the two marks isn't exactly strange TBH.
