A Mk2 is naff! They break down and rattle themselves to pieces!

So mk3's don't break down then

I may be asking for it now but... In 80,000 miles neither of my Mk3s have ever broken down.

Mine hasn't broken down either...

But, lets not forget every other thread on here is 'Help my GTi cut out..'

Well a nice mk2 is still a better car, yes it might not have many fancy mod cons and lets be honest who need abs or air con, a mk2 is a better drivers car, handles better, lighter, looks better etc.

Before anyone shouts rust they are no worse than mk3 so the question remains why bother making a mk3 look like a mk2

I don't really see why people bother comparing a Mk2 to a Mk3... They're different cars.

Well both are VW Golfs and in some cases were built in the same year so I think a comparable opinion on the two marks isn't exactly strange TBH.

Plus early mk3's used some mk2 parts

If people wanted a Mk2, surely they would own one?

So true! Mk3's are rot boxes.

That said, ours wont die...

I don't think a semi will give the same results

have to admit never had a mk3 break down on me.
had starter motor go and front engine mount bracket snap dropping the engine on the subframe via the oil filter at 60mph but the engine stayed running so that dont count lol.
