Hi people, i have just got my first Golf mk3 GTI. I got the car a few weeks ago and is 100% standard at the moment. I would like some info on what sort of mods i can do, i am looking to fit a full coilover set and new 17" alloys but apart from that i need ideas please!!!

Hi, welcome to the mk3 section, have you tried the search function?
-
not sure what to search for??? and can any one tell me how to up load pics
-
use photobucket to upload pics then use the links they give you to copy and paste em on to here
-
Just use keywords in the search like mods or mk3 mods or specific mods that you have in mind, chances are most will have been done or talked about before. Here is a link for image and sig posting.

I am thinking of the turbo conversion route, i have read some threads and see very mixed views on this!! i understand that some custom work will be needed but see it to be worth while. I have to use of a garage where my lad works

As for wheel size, it will drive and handle bette ron 16's but if you want to compromise handling for looks, go for 17's.

On 16s maybe a 60/40 set up, maybe a little higher.

Make sure that the end bit is fixed on before you take it away, as one of the end caps is glued on, and cant be refitted, but breaks off VERY easy.
I had to get a 2nd one as the dealer broke my first one.
Then i de-arched and de-skirted my car the month after! haha

16"s are better for clearance and handling, I ran 17"s and a 70mm drop did have a few issues with clearance on the back but sorted it with an a angle grinder.

Well you are missing at least 8 valves and have 2 doors too many - but other than that   I'd go down the route of slamming it as a number one priority - it will stop it handling like a boat! Don't go too low would be my advice! I've gone low, and having covered 250 miles since the coilovers have "settled" and now I'm even lower - and as a result I ended up with 2 incidents today - incident 1 - speed bumps one Golf nil and new spliter now required - bugger as its a failry new VR6 one I put on the car about 3 months ago. Incident 2 - MOTSTOP couldn't get it on the ramps at the test centre for the MOT test :embarassed:
Don't bother with the trubo would be my advice. If your going to spend all that money sorting out compression, rod ends, turbo's etc etc I would just drop in a 20v turbo and box from a mk4 gti. You'll have to fiddle around with some bits, but it would probably cost alot less and give much more power with better power curves.
16's are plenty. 17's on low profile tyres and coilovers WILL ruin your spine! If you've got cash to burn splash on some BBS split rims
I'd look at tarting up the body and a S/S exhaust system - but nothing too boomy.

Thanks for all of your comment chaps, keep them coming
