Title: Which cars are you most wary of when in your GTI?
Post by: FroGTI on 17 September 2009, 17:34
I don't know what it is, but I've got some kind of 6th sense that detects a cock from 500 yards away. You know, the idiot in the suped-up, but worthless car... you can see him saying "hey look, there's a new Golf GTI" to his mate. You know the kind I mean.

Well, what do they drive in the UK? Here in France, it's invariably some kind of Seat Ibiza Cupra TDI nonsense...

Last night's c0ck was an N-reg Mitsi FTO that was falling apart.

Coloue: Primer gray from all the Cat-D accidents he no doubt had!

Corsa

New drivers in 1.2's who think 85 isn't fast enough.

Let 'em by then blow by them at 100+ (kph)

Of course, I had forgotten that Chavs love Saxos in the UK. Kind of ironic really, as they don't command much street cred' here in France (where they were actually built)!

Not sure if you meant weary as in faster cars or weary as in young lads in cars that are a bit 'wreckless'

If you mean faster cars I wouldnt be weary of anything much around the roads. Motorways, yep the Scooby's, some Audi's namely the RS's and S3, TTR's etc but I wouldnt seriously entertain them, I would just wind them up, will give em a less on after a remap though, as long as they aint remapped either  lol.

If you mean the wreckless lads, I stay well clear of them.

Definately the wreckless lads, who want a GTI but their insurance quote would be £2,000+

i never bother with focus st's as invariably its some young (unt in a cap driving it - can't be bothered to race you mate, my car is better, more expensive and (now) quicker - so bore off.

i do enjoy mugging off the young lads in corsas/puntos/saxos on the motorways.  but my favourite are the peugeot 206/306 brigade.  hateful cars and you are a (unt if you drive one, particuarly if you're a bloke cause its a bird's car at best.  they come up right behind me on the dual carriage way to work.  i slow down.  then i nail it cause i know they have the acceleration of a double decker bus.  bye bye d1ckhead.

i had a 406 try to race me on the way home.  bore off grandad.

Yes, I meant young idiots in sheds. Ironically, cars that are genuinely quicker than the GTI are usually driven by more sedate people.

WTF is an e34 M535i anyway? The only M535i I know of was the e28. The e34 535i put out the same hp (when new!) as the MkVI GTI, but weighed 200kg more... I rest my case.

the picture is an e28 you donut. it might have an extra kilo or two but it has a lsd and a driver that doesn't care too much if it gets scratched by the hedges. most mk6 gti owners will be driving to protect their paint.

edit wrt mgf/wheel off - at no point did a wheel come off the mgf, i pulled a tyre off the rim whilst going sideways. also NOT on a publicly owned road.

This is a very typical new car owner attitude. Dont understand history / classic cars / etc and dont know what theyre looking at half the time.
Just cos it doesnt look like its fast or cost the owner 25k + 3k a year depreciation, dont mean that it isnt any good

then again, i wouldnt expect a new audi rs4 driver to know what a rs2, URCQ is, so i guess its fair enough.

Troll - In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]

Defo the boy racer as descibed below. (Came across this on the internet, a good description I think.)

Boy Racer

Main use for car: Driving around town centres, music blaring big bore um... boring. Sitting in local car parks. Visiting local "cruises".

Primary styling mods: Styling mods purchased with no consideration for the car's aesthetics as a whole. Stupid spoilers, bad bodykits. Bodged installation. Car says "look at me, I'm fast" but is probably sh!t.

Primary performance mods: Whatever they can get their hands on. May not be expertly installed.

Usual car models: Cheap usually low-powered models. 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 litre engines, sometimes larger if the boy racer thinks they can afford the insurance. Mods often make them look worse than standard.

Driving style:  "Pedal to the metal" on public roads. Erratic driving in public car parks. Not all that much driving skill.

Car Modifier

Main use for car: "Track days", where a car is put through its paces on a race course, or normal driving.

Primary styling mods:  Subtle styling blending in with the aesthetics of the car. Not too OTT. Time and care taken installing mods. Car says "if you know about cars, you know I'm nice"

Primary performance mods: Primarily safety and handling mods. Performance mods aren't used dangerously.

Usual car models: Can be any size car but usually decent cars in their own right sans modification.

Driving style: Careful on public roads, but not averse to driving fast at special events.

Edit: And before anyone points it out I know it doesn't really count as mine is not even close to a daily but it still makes me laugh when my 23 year old "Shed" gives them a few surprises.

I do most of my driving on rural roads.
The cars I dread are townies.
They drive so slowly, so far from the hedge, and speed up in villages.

Manchester reg saloon cars are worst.

It's great that the older GTI users on this forum are opinionated gits.
No dementia here.

The VW GTI DSG (much brisker than the clutched model in real life) is perfect for fast driving oldsters.

It's just a shame the younger never never boys are such sheep.

Well I hope it's not one of these....

http://cms.met.police.uk/news/policy_organisational_news_and_general_information/met_lamborghini_on_show

Cos if it's got DSG I think I'm gonna be totally screwed. If it hasn't got DSG I think I'll be fine. The copper will never work out how to use the clutch in that thing.... right?

*edit* they are hella cool Police cars
they use them in Italy too, which is kinda unsurprising since they are Italian cars...
