seen one of these today, just wondering what spec this model is? engine size ect...
-
170bhp from memory, have been told it is not that good an engine.
-
I think they are 150bhp but no Turbo, 1.8T better to be honest ??
-
I think they are 170bhp mate and are a 2.3
-
2.3 V5 (5 cylinder) 170bhp ish, nice sound but not that tuneable compared to the 1.8T!
-
Yep and use forgot SUPA thirsty like the VR6
-
early ones were 150 and the later ones were 170bhp
someone correct me if i'm wrong
-
Your are correct Mr Rhyso
-
Yep it was 2000/2001 they changed over and saw sense to have 4 valves per cylinder rather than 2.
-
Your are correct Mr Rhyso
first time for everything

It was a bit of an odd ball model, but it had to be in the range to add an Auto with a powerful engine. The only other Auto option was the 1.6 at the time I think
They sound quite nice at full chat but drink fuel and they ain't that quick either!

Correct! The best model Mk4 (UK) to have if you need an Auto!

Thank you!! It was a model for the American market... They seem to love V5's for some reason! !

Is it true that it is a VR6 engine with a cylinder / piston missing.

In basic terms, yes......................... It's a VR5. ;)

Should have reworded it, it is a VR6 block then.
-
no it's a different block. None of the Golf range had a true V engine, they are all VR by definition

It is one block yes but VW still called it a V6, and it is 15 degree angle, VR was German for very narrow
