Maybe that was worded wrong. There is a car industry but not much work going for somebody who studied car design. From my course i think there's 1 maybe 2 who are actually doing some kind of car design for a uk manufacturer. Others including myself have moved into other design disciplines or moved abroad.

Warehouse staff get paid good rates as well at work!
 Good joke! To be fair though I think TNT were just tight as Excel in the same warehouse for the same client were paying their staff more than TNT were.
I did enjoy the bonuses I got when I worked for TNT, £20 just for walking in the door on a Saturday if working in the w/h or £40 if going out on a delivery run, £10 per week for holding a FLT/CB licence and very negotiable over time rates if they were desperate  Also creating the need for overtime was a good earner

Im currently assistant manager of a co-op store, obviously that dont compare in a larger store, but has to count for something when moving over.
Its rare for them to employ externally (i was one of a few in over 2 years!) but its still possible. Enquire to see if you could move to a team leader position and train for line manager? So no need to sell the R now then??
No i might not need to mate, will see what happens. I need to free up cash (not much but enough) so might have to as i want to move before my wage goes up! Even if i sell it im looking at something new in about 1.5 years (nissan gtr, rs4 avant or range rover sport)
If i keep the R then im going to keep it for ages, its the perfect car apart from a lack of power!

professional racing driver and race car designer, outside of the xbox and forza 3, college and seeking employment, i want to work at mcdonalds just to open the doors on the drive-through for some reason hah, applied for an apprenticeship with car body work repair even though i don't want to get into the mechanics as thats how my grandad died in a garage fire, so next year when i reach 18 years young i'm going to go for my counterbalance and reach license (forklift to you and me) and also lgv (light goods vehicles) as the age has gone from 21 to 18 and also my dad is a hgv driver so be nice to follow in his footsteps but hopefully not as grumpy..

i'm a firm beliver in "the grass isn't always greener on the other side", as i've seen quite a few employees come and go over the years, and when on the odd occasion i bump into them, most of them say they wish they had never left / been sacked

Is it so hard to believe a pilot would frequent this site? Obviously driving an insane Golf is more fun than piloting a plane
There was a pilot a few years back who built a monster 1.8 20vt MK2 which cost him like £20k with I think 2 or 3 engines in the time he had it and sold it for £6k or something around there when he moved to Spain.

Road traffic police constable...
Let the flaming begin!
Kent police are the worst, met FTW

Saying that - we do have a defender v8 at Lydd police station.
I'm looking to join either one but its a nightmare at the moment, no vacancies online plus I can't go down the special constable route as it conflicts with my current job as a CSO even though im CTC and SC cleared... In my previous job we worked with the Kent police closely in your security system, that was a disaster yet it won an award
-
The specials have a HUGE waiting list at the moment.
Plus - the police HR people frown upon applicants who haven't been specials for two years.
It's a huge commitment, but it gets you in.
Alternatively, the Dover harbour board might be a good place to look in Kent, or the civil nuclear constabulary.
-
Jack after the flaming you'll now probably get asked loads of questions I bet due to your job.
-
how can there be a waiting list. we still have REAL CRIMINALS to lock up!!! utter bullsh!t.
i got stopped friday night and all the cop said was oh i can smell petrol, you need to do an engine flush
they were outside a bar at closing time an instead of waiting to catch a drunk driver or stop a fight, they decided to give me mechanical advise (how help full). it took less than five mins. i bet they thought they got a good stop here and were disappointed when they met a law abidding citizen!!!
probably happened to many on here.
-
I spend too much money for a living

Road traffic police constable...
Let the flaming begin!
Being a son of a pig sergeant/acting inspector I have big respect for the feds. It's a tough job and you see some really nasty stuff especially RTA's if you are on traffic.
Turned over to itv4 night before last just as one of the old mans chases came on, was a proper mind f*ck after a few pints.
And the infamous XR4x4 chase through Leicestershire (stolen XR4x4 being chased by a police XR4x4) came on shortly after, the camera car was driven by my Dad's mate Dick. My claim to fame
Thought about jumping on the bandwagon a few times as most of my mates seem to be joining

Fun job with a great pension!
What's there to lose?
Apart from obviously your dignity...
The only downside is having pikeys spit in your face and not being able to do anything about it.
The other day a friend of mine was put on review because he called a heroin user in custody a disgusting c*nt after he chewed off the inside of his mouth and spat a mouthful of aids infected blood into his eye (a favourite of the desperate, angry junkie!)

Lucky they didnt get roughed up, being verbally abused is getting off lightly for that sorta thing. They are allowed to use quite some force these days when people spit at them arent they. Surprised your mate got a rollocking.
A very good friend of mine got stabbed in his first week of being a special, only in the arm like, but still it does show you how dangerous it can be. He is a fully pledged copper now though and he loves it, been moved over to Braunstone area in Leicester working from headquarters to see a bit more action.

I never get the whole house wife thing, what do you do ALL day ? Id go insane.
Where do I begin....cleaning, cooking, washing etc etc and most importantly spending time with my beautiful children, I'd much rather be at home to bring them up, rather than working and putting them in nurseries with people they or I don't know. When they're both a bit older at school then I'll think about my own career, at the minute we manage happily on one wage, money isn't everything after all!

Alan, i feel you got off veeeery lightly there!

Plc's are programable logic controllers. Basically like a small small computer (without screens or mouse ect thought) and you program them so that they react different ways according to different inputs or outputs. A loose way to describe it is a big IC chip (the type you find in circuit boards) that you can program and reprogram and reprogram over and over again, hold a lot more memory and can be used for a lot more things.
Really horible lesson because we spend most of our time programing them when not one person on the course has to program plc's as part of there job. i dont even need to know anything about PLC's for my job, if we need a PLC puting in we get a contracted companie to decide the PLC suitable and program it.
The course I do is 'BTEC L4 HNC electrical/electronic engineering'
