Ok, so looking like im going to sell my 130bhp tdi to my sister, n im thinking of going for a v6,but to be honest i dont know if its worth changing from the gttdi to the a v6 4 motion.
so this is me being stoopid, n asking if theres any vast differences that would make it worth the change if i do sell my current golf to my sister.
-
Keep the derv or get a 1.8T
V6 is a nice car tho TBH

how many miles you do a year??
How about buying a v6 4mo and swapping engines to have a PD130 4mo and a V6 2mo
-
Would it be worth remapping my gttdi? like, wont my insurance company frown on it more as its a modified car, rather than if i bought a v6, which im sure would burn a hole in my pokcet for feul.
see if i keep my car, i really want to do something to make it look special, but body kitting it falls into the moding zone again.

Remap HAS TO BE DONE
depends how you're with re your insurance - mine went up about £90 or so i think
body modifications aren't adding power to the car which is what insurance companies tend to frown upon
why not get some quotes so you can decide what to do

Go with HIC, engine mods will put the price up but body mods and suspension didn't on mine

i considered a mk5 gti, but i had one for two weeks as a hire vehicle when mine got a ding. was good, but im not sure, thats a car that needsss playing with, but looks so good when done right.
hmm, see im kinda blonde with insurance as far as body mods are n remaps. if it wouldnt effect me on a kit id put an r32 bod on it, but im sure it will hit high if i do that on my insurance.
hmm, confuzzeled!

Ring some one like www.adrianflux.co.uk who are mod friendly and ask you may be surprised

remap gttdi. Just look at rhysos torque!
And a chipped gttdi will probably be far cheaper on insurance than a v6 4mo anyway, even if the gttdi had an R32 bodykit.
Id stick with a gttdi purely because of cost. v6 4mo is £400/year to tax, and it drinks petrol at a nice fast rate, yet a gttdi will be economical (more economical after a remap infact if driven sensibly) and tax will be cheaper.

:smug: :smug: (allow for rolling road inaccuracy mind)
on my run to work (20 miles) i can easily see 55mpg + :afro:
long term average is holding steady at around 50mpg - thats with 18inch wheels too

My 4mo isn't £400 a year tax - it's £180ish, the exact same as my mk2 GTI.
It's a 2000 model, but as far as I know, none of them are £400 a year tax......
I've just checked on Parkers - pre 2001 cars will only be going up to £205 per year tax, while post 2001 will be £245. Hardly extortionate!?!?!
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=18512 (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=18512)
Anyway - yeah it is juicy, but not stupidly so - about what you'd expect from a 2.8 V6 with the power going through all four wheels really! I usually get about 26mpg on my way to work - 14 miles on B roads with about 2 miles of dual carriageway thrown in for fun (it's usually below 20mpg on the way home from work). I've got to the dizzy heights of 33mpg on a long motorway journey before though.
There's some bargain 4motions to be had out there too as people get scared that they're not going to be able to afford to run them with the fuel going up in price. Mine was advertised for £5250 and I ended up haggling him down to £3700. To be honest, I haven't noticed the difference going from having a mk2 as my daily to having the 4motion.
Remember, diesel is for tractors and lorries - V6 power is where it's at.
-
thought the v6 were a 3.2l, which is £400 per year i believe.
-
V6 4motion is a 2.8, R32 is a 3.2 V6 (also with Haldex 4motion system).
Anyway - the mk4 R32 is also not £400 per year tax: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=24062 (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=24062) it's going up to £245 the same as the 2.8!
When the govt introduced their thieving tax hikes last year, all post 2001 cars were going to be £450 from 2010. They swiftly back tracked - the rates in the above link are the up to date ones.
I taxed my 4mo this month, so got in at the old rates (it's going up slightly from May this year).
-
where did i read that R32 costs £400 to insure then
ah well.
-
You probably read it at the end of last year???????
They introduced the new tax hikes around September time, then had a little re-think about November time. Both the 4motion and the R32 were supposed to go into the top £450 per year tax bracket if they were registered after 1st April 2001. It's why I made sure when I bought mine that it was registered before then (December 2000) and would be in the old tax code.
-
no i read it today on the forums, but no idea what topic
-
Who cares about the car, got any more pic's!?
+1!!!

Remapped 1.8T where it's at :afro:
-
What about a remapped 4motion? The engine's not as receptive to it as the 1.8T, but you're starting at 204 anyway. I think you're looking at around 220 with a stage 1 and obviously more with exhaust/CAI and higher stage map.

Tax all goes on Co2 readings, the goverment are putting it up, they just delayed it, 225g/km and over is going to be £400 i thyink, and i am pretty sure the 4mo is above the 225g/km level, below 225g/km is going to be £300 or there abouts, and anything pre 2000 (oct i think) is one flat rate (£195 at the moment i think although this is also going up aswell, most cars around 2.0l are going to be in the £300 a year box and most 2.5l and above are in the £400 a year box, thats as a rough guide anyway.
-
Right - it seems that there's a few people who are incapable of clicking the rather handy link I posted (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=18512 (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=18512)) showing the current 4motion tax, what it's going up to from May 09 and what it's going up to from April 2010.
So here it is in table form - you don't even have to click anything, just read and digest. Tax for the 4motion and the mk4 R32 for that matter is not going to be anywhere near £400 a year as it stands.
Volkswagen Golf Hatchback (97-04) 2.8 V6 4MOTION 3d
Rates effective from 13 March 2008
Date of Registration 6 Months 12 Months Band CO2 (g/km)

Rates effective from May 2009
Date of Registration 6 Months 12 Months Band CO2 (g/km)
5 Jan 2000 – 1 Mar 2001 £104.50 £190.00 -

Rates effective from April 2010
Date of Registration 6 Months 12 Months Band CO2 (g/km)

1 Mar 2001 – 1 Jan 2004 £134.75 £245.00 K 264
As the R32 wasn't registered until August 2002, it does not qualify for the "old" tax bracket for pre April 2001 cars. It does however, still fall into new Band K which means that it's only going up to £245.00 per year in April 2010 the same as the 4motion.
The website can be found here - http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/ (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/) and you can put any car in to find out what you'll be paying in tax in the coming years.

Only R32's registered after April 2006 are subject to the £400+ tax.
Mine was regsitered May 2006 :undecided:
