And a chipped gttdi will probably be far cheaper on insurance than a v6 4mo anyway, even if the gttdi had an R32 bodykit.

Id stick with a gttdi purely because of cost. v6 4mo is £400/year to tax, and it drinks petrol at a nice fast rate, yet a gttdi will be economical (more economical after a remap infact if driven sensibly) and tax will be cheaper.

My 4mo isn't £400 a year tax - it's £180ish, the exact same as my mk2 GTI.

It's a 2000 model, but as far as I know, none of them are £400 a year tax......

I've just checked on Parkers - pre 2001 cars will only be going up to £205 per year tax, while post 2001 will be £245.  Hardly extortionate!?!?!

Anyway - yeah it is juicy, but not stupidly so - about what you'd expect from a 2.8 V6 with the power going through all four wheels really!  I usually get about 26mpg on my way to work - 14 miles on B roads with about 2 miles of dual carriageway thrown in for fun (it's usually below 20mpg on the way home from work).  I've got to the dizzy heights of 33mpg on a long motorway journey before though.

There's some bargain 4motions to be had out there too as people get scared that they're not going to be able to afford to run them with the fuel going up in price.  Mine was advertised for £5250 and I ended up haggling him down to £3700.  To be honest, I haven't noticed the difference going from having a mk2 as my daily to having the 4motion.

Remember, diesel is for tractors and lorries - V6 power is where it's at.

V6 4motion is a 2.8, R32 is a 3.2 V6 (also with Haldex 4motion system).

Anyway - the mk4 R32 is also not £400 per year tax: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=24062 it's going up to £245 the same as the 2.8!

When the govt introduced their thieving tax hikes last year, all post 2001 cars were going to be £450 from 2010.  They swiftly back tracked - the rates in the above link are the up to date ones.

I taxed my 4mo this month, so got in at the old rates (it's going up slightly from May this year).

You probably read it at the end of last year?

They introduced the new tax hikes around September time, then had a little re-think about November time.  Both the 4motion and the R32 were supposed to go into the top £450 per year tax bracket if they were registered after 1st April 2001.  It's why I made sure when I bought mine that it was registered before then (December 2000) and would be in the old tax code.
