None.... as far as I'm aware.  The best they could offer was a 'fair' if not good part exchange on my current ST, which I was quite happy with.  For reasons unknown to me, I was informed by the stealer that supply will be limited to two allocations per dealer for the first couple of months.... consequently they were in no rush to offer any discounts.  However I'm sure things will change, once they ramp up production.  Give it a few months, once all the hype and publicity has died down.

Hopefully mine is due sometime in June.

Thanks for that, please share your brokers, I'd appreciate it.

I have found this one in my travels, it shows the GTI mk6 for a very reasonable £20,313

None based on my experience of our local VW dealership.  I went in there with my vgc 2006 gti to get a part exchange deal on a new top of the range gti.  I specced up a car to match my existing gti and the price came to approx £30k.  they said they could only offer me £450 off the total price of the new car!  Are they living in the real world?  I haven't signed up but they are talking about July delivery.  They offered me a good price for my car but that price isn't set in stone until the new car comes in anyway so may go down.  Not impressed.

Well, with dealdrivers.co.uk, you are not actually buying from them and dont give them any money. They arrange this price with one of their nearest dealers in your area. So you order on the dealdrivers site (or phone), pick your extras (which are discounted too) then you pick up the car from the dealer they advise you to. It could be someone very close by, or it could be a dealer a little farther away. Saves you the hassle of haggling with the VW dealer direct, they do it all for you and your guranteed the price you see. Result in my book.

when you think about it, all were doing is taking off the price hike because of the weak £.

Were still not getting a good deal, because once the pound is strong/normal again the depreciation will hit the car hard.

What gives you the idea that the pound will become 'normal' again - it may well be that this IS normal now.

If you know anything about economics, when the economy recovers so will the pound, we may not see the dizzy heights of almost $2 or 1.5e euros to the £ like we saw in the past, but it will get stronger as the economy does.

It's a fair question to ask though, and what you have now made me think about is when it does recover, will VW pass on the savings..... I very much doubt it.

There's been quite a few more people on here in the last week saying they have either ordered or have got the new GTI.  Anyone get a deal on these.

The reason I ask is that I've got in touch with 2 dealers for a new GTI.  5 door red with DSG and with other bits and pieces which takes the price upto £25,220.

One dealer has offered me £12,600 for my 06 GTI (5door, DBP, with 18's and 24,000mls) in september and another £12,600 for the new gti on a 59 plate.  I contacted another local dealer to see what he could do.

It would be nice to hear what sort of deals others are getting even if no-one is getting anything.

OK chaps, first post so be nice!

I'm collecting a tornado 5 dr MK6 with 18" Monza'a shadows and winterpack next Monday, ordered last week from Loders in Dorchester.

Firstly, if you're flexible on spec, there are built cars in Germany that can come over in a couple of weeks.  I'm getting almost the spec I want but not waiting.

Next deal, surprisingly I spoke to two local dealers who stated (with a touch of smug arrogance) that there was zero discount on a MK6 GTI.  I told them politely that I didn't think paying list price in the current economic climate was wise, they said no deal so I walked. Their loss! They did say that they had sold their current allocation so couldn't get any more anyway. Hmmm....

Anyways, I traded in my 08 Scirocco GT TSI that I bought last November for £21K with 800 miles on her (was £25.5K list) and was offered book value of £19K from stealer now with 13000 miles on it. Agreed the deal at £19775 on the PX with finance at cost so was happy, that was a grand better than their offer and i'm happy that they're doing OK out of it, i'm a firm believer that they need to make a decent living too.

So that's my deal, can't wait to get the car.

Cheers.

I was told a similar story in that there were no discounts on the new gti, very few slots for the dealers to place an order. My dealer has chosen to order 4 up front, which they were then amending the specs when someone came in and bought one.

I asked for a discount on leather, he refused a number of times. In the end, I agreed to sign there and then if he took £500 off the list price, which he did.

Metallic Black, Monzas, delivery start of september on a 59' plate. No build date as yet. Counting the days...

Manmath, is there a reason why you're waiting until September? I was offered two black cars from stock last week when I ordered mine, both with 18" Monzas and a few other bits.

I phoned VW UK and they said the only way to get a car was a factory order with 12 week delivery, I just wish you could get a straight answer out of someone!

Anyways, stealer phoned today, car might be ready Friday and did I want Autoglym Lifeshine? No i'm not a lazy bugger that's never going to clean his car!

Nope, trading nothing in. Used to own an A3, but got out of my pcp deal when I bought a house...

The only reason I am waiting for a 59 is that apart from wanting to drive it right now, I don't actually need it so I can wait and save a little bit more of the maximum deposit I agreed to. He did have a look on his system for suitable stock cars, and I think there were a couple but I didn't mind waiting.

I had the audi version of Lifeshine on my A3 - I personally don't think it's worth it. Yeh the car looks great after you have spent 3 hours polishing it but in truth I didn't use the kit they give you to keep it's shine enough to get the value of it.

I ended up buying it from a vw dealer 10 miles away because my closest dealer tried to hard-sell the scirrocco to me even though I kept saying I was only interested in the golf gti. their loss i guess...

:smiley:we take delivery of a shiny new MkVI in mid July. Black, 5 door, leathers, sun roof, bluetooth prep, winterpack, and a  couple of other things that escape me just now. We ordered it in April through a dealer site on the net and they quoted us a price which was 3.5k yes £3500 below list. I was sceptical at first and went to 3 local dealers and tried to get close and the most they would offer was £750, we showed them all the quote we had and they all said snap their hand off. So we did!! I test drove one a silver 5 door with dsg and it was nice.
Cant wait now 3 week and counting

3 door dsg in tornado red, black leather,18" wheels,ACC, winter pack and luxury pack.
Should cost £26865 but got it for £24575, I'm happy with that.

Haven't driven one yet but I know it will be good.

Managed to get £1295 of the price of a new Mk6 from a dealer.

Test drive was brilliant, I really liked the ACC and the cabin, seats are classic. The mk6 seemed better in
most respects (slightly) - the car looked gorgeous.
Lack of turbo whistle and door sill logo though.

The dealer wouldn't offer any discount while I was in the showroom so I left them with my best offer (6% ish).
They phoned back about 3 weeks later and said they had some 'new figures' for me.
I went in the next day to place my order.
I'm trading in my mk5 GTI (which I love dearly).

I think the price you pay depends on whether the dealer has sold their allocation or not and how long you are prepared to wait.
I did look at some of the internet brokers but didn't want to wait 6-9 months.

Mk6 is due Sept 1st.
Deep black, manual, 5dr, ACC, winter pack, cloth (leather is just too cold or hot for me and I WANT the jacara tartan).

From the "Blue Graphite" thread.

OK, deal done!  Been on the blower to Verve, paid the deposit by debit card, and we're on the move.

VW Golf GTi Mk VI
5-door
Blue graphite
DSG
ACC
Sun roof
Winter pack
Luxury pack
Flat tyre indicator

£22,500 on the road, including scrappage on R-reg Peugeot 306 GTi-6.

I've probably got a couple of weeks to change my mind on the specifications, but I don't think I will.  The cloth upholstery is actually quite classy, and £1,675 is a lot of money.

That is actually £3,995 below list price, and the car I'm scrapping is only worth £500 to £600 on a good day (and when the dealer valued it he didn't know about the dead aircon, the leaky sunroof, the passenger seat that behaves like a fairground ride or the clutch slipping out of the odd-numbered gears), and due for a service - which it is not now going to get.  If we take the faults into consideration then the car may be worth little more than the cost of the service!

I have this forum to thank for getting such a good deal, and I'm extremely grateful.

Rolfe.

Was this at a main VW dealer?

How do you calculate the discount when the scrappage scheme is involved?

If you ignore the fact that the deal is also going to relieve me of an almost worthless car as well, I got 15.1%.

If you subtract the £1,000 that the government contributes to the transaction then I got 11.3%.

If you completely ignore the entire £2000 of the scrappage deal then I still got 7.5%.

And yes it was a VW main dealer, Verve.

Golfgti, your car has very similar spec to mine which I ordered 23rd May and was originally told August delivery, however today I've been told it has been built and is ready to ship and I will have it by end of month.  Therefore you may be lucky and get yours earlier than you think.  Good luck and congrats on a fine order.

Thanks for that.
Now I'm hoping/wishing/dreaming...

Forget to mention the tyre pressue indicator (free on the mk5, but very useful).

I ordered (or was it begged for) mine 3 weeks ago so Sept is probably realistic.

Bet you can't wait.

Congrats, I originally wanted leather, then when I saw the seats I loved them too, then when I saw the leather I thought it just looked much more classy especially with the colour of the car. I couldn't make my mind up for a while.

The dealer I'm buying from had the tartan seats in his showroom model.  In contrast to the one I had the test drive from, who had both showroom and test cars in leather.

I admit to a sneaky desire for the leather still (the car I'm scrapping has leather seats), and I originally intended to have it.  However, a few things swayed me.  First, I liked the DSG, and having that and the leather started to make the price a bit eye-popping.  So I began to consider having the DSG instead of the leather.  Then several people praised the cloth seats, saying they were warmer, and wear well, and indeed look less doom-and-gloom in the black interior.  Then I saw the cloth seats in the showroom car at the second dealer, and it's true, they do look good.  I still like the leather, but I think I like £1,675 better.

The second dealer seems to be a bit of a fan of the car.  He enthused about the cloth seats, saying that VW had gone back to the original Golf GTi design in including them, and said he thought it made the car classic and reminiscent of its illustrious ancestor.  He actively tried to talk me out of the leather.

So it's cloth on the order, and will stay like that unless I have a change of heart before the build starts.

Rolfe.

I had a mk1 years ago so I'm biased about the tartan (jacara) cloth.

Leather looks and feels good but not on a cold winters morning or a hot summers day (especially with black).

On a totally different note. I'm new here and wondered if it is the done thing to set up a new thread for some Ford Focus ST jokes as my mate at work has just bought one (BRIGHT Orange).

I'm about as new as you, but please do!

I was originally considering the Focus ST, when I started this game about 2 weeks ago.  But I saw the light.  And that orange is absolutely offensive, and deserves to have all the fun in the world poked at it.

And then we can laugh at them when the cops pick on them for having "Boy Racer" tattooed on their foreheads....

I cannot believe anyone in their right senses would go for that puke inducing orange!!  come to that why would anyone go for a ford focus be it an ST or RS it's a positively ugly looking great beast of  a thing.

Give me a golf gti anytime especially with the jacarta cloth trim, the leather is nice but remember it is not all real leather some is plastic and unless you go for the winter pack can be cold.

So excited tonight and can't wait for end of the month.

To be fair, about your last point, the leather seats come heated anyway - they do a reduction on the winter pack with leather seats to compensate.

Yes I know all about the leather with winter pack, still cold for the first minute or so (depends what you wear I suppose), in summer it can almost burn your legs if you wear shorts.

I think this forum is fantastic.Your posts have been great.

You know what really scares me about this deal?  Even with that good discount I'm paying more for this car than I did for my first house!

OK, it was a small flat.  But it was indeed possible to buy a brand new small flat within commuting distance of central London for £22,150.  In 1981.

The day I got it, my bank credited the mortgage advance to my current account, and said, just write a cheque for it.  I did that, completely gobsmacked by the size of the sum.  The friend I'd been staying with said, you ought to keep that cheque when it's cancelled (they sent back all cancelled cheques to the customer in these days) because it's probably the biggest cheque you will ever write in your life.

Uh-oh.

A bit scary.

Hang on, when you say "total price", does that include the financing?  I mean, is that the total you will pay, including interest, or the actual on-the-road price?

this is for a manual - VWkev, you reckon this is a bad price?

rolfe - total price i believe is the total cash price.  the finance cost would be on top of that, but of course it is spread over 3 yrs... so time value of money and all that means that i won't really feel it.

thing is, i was originally going to get a 2nd hand Mk5 outright, but having seen the Mk6, i just think the newer car will make me a lot happier.  not having the cash i'll have to finance it.

p.s. i also got a lease quote from freedom contracts... about £1k initial payment, and £380pm thereafter for 3 yrs, 10k mileage limit.  same options as this quote.  thing is, less certainty about the value of the car at the end if you want to buy it.  PCP at least typically gives you some equity.

I've just checked, I think my initial thoughts was it was a bit high, but after checking its actually pretty much spot on. ie v.good price. Only one thing bothering me, your car + the extras work out at less than 23k from their website, why did you pay nearly £400 more ?

400 quid off?  not sure... the quote i did originally is on my work laptop.  will have to check later.  can only assume that this is a "real" quote vs indicative ones on the website?  it matches off pretty well against other ones i've seen on autoebid, drivethedeal and car finance.net

p.s. to be clear, i haven't paid anything as yet... this is just a quote

My experience suggests that the web site prices were real until the weekend or just after, when the last car was sold.  They then put that note on the page to inform people of that.  I think they ought to have updated the actual page by now, but as I said, they could be a small outfit in terms of pairs of hands, and this is only one car out of what must be many hundreds of new and used models.  Their web page is pretty amateurish too, though I'm not criticising, as it gets the job done.

Work out the list price of your specs, then see how much you're getting off.  The VW web site is great fun for specifying cars, I've played with it for a couple of hours.  I love the bit where the little paint-spray heads appear and spray the car the colour you've selected!

the paint thing is annoying, i wish it would paint quicker!  plus it doesn't seem to show the grey's properly, though perhaps the greys are indeed like that, i.e. slightly green/ blue.

Wow, I just checked the DealDrivers page again, and as well as the note about the GTi prices no longer being valid, there is one saying no more scrappage from Volkswagen dealers!  Like, none!  Not even on a basic Polo, apparently!

I've tried to run your specs through the VW flash player, though I'm not absolutely certain I got the parking bit right (I could only find the whole "park assist" thing, not just sensors and camera).  It came out at £25,065.  That's £1,711 off, or 6.8%.  It's not a bad deal.

There is still stuff about scrappage on the VW website (at time of posting this anyway), so maybe it's just the dealers that are tied in to DealDrivers can't afford to keep the level of discounting going with a few hundred tonnes of scrap metal parked outside their dealership?

So maybe you were rather lucky Morag. Would be nice to think so as I think the scrappage scheme has had more success than many people ever reckoned. I don't think VW would abandon it too quickly as it would make them seem rather aloof, however I wouldn't mind a wager that it's putting a lot of pressure on Polo production at a time where they're trying to kill the old model off!
Title: Re: What Deals Are We Getting On MK6 GTI ?

Oh, it's fairly clear from the wording that it's just the dealers tied in with DealDrivers who have stopped the scrappage deal.

Nevertheless, at one point DealDrivers was by far the best price I was looking at, with scrappage.  However, looking at what's happened I don't think there was any real chance I could have had all the decisions made and the order placed in time to catch one of their deals at all.

What it did for me was concentrate the minds of the Verve dealership to come up with a deal that was within spitting distance of the original DealDrivers figures.  Even when I showed these figures to Verve, I knew they were out of date (as of that morning!) and said so, but Verve still worked to that target.  If I'd been a couple of days later, there would have been no keen DealDrivers quote to do that for me - if the note about no scrappage had been on the site at that point I'd just have closed the page and thought no more about it.

I was always intending to go to Verve on Tuesday afternoon, and I think Verve are doing good deals anyway, I just doubt I'd have pushed them down so far without the target set by DealDrivers.  Which no longer exists.

Ah well, we all deserve the odd slice of luck in this life.

Yeah I know this, but I'm not sure what your lump sum at the end of it is, if you have to pay £8k for example and if he pays £100 a month extra for 4 years then he has a better deal. I just dont know your exact figures so I'm just guessing at the mo.

Its always exactly what the car is worth. They use a book price so its never going to be extraordinary. You could however just give the car back and go out and buy private or just a different spec if thats what you wanted, keeping things flexable too.

Which leasing sites are you looking at please as my google attempts are clearly failing me.

Fair point re: the balloon payment. With pcp I'm told they generally aim for a lower balloon so that it will be below mkt value. In other words getting you to pay more on a mth'ly basis, but a smaller payment at the end. They have an incentive to get you to buy the car or use it as part exchange to "tie" you into vw.

But anyway despite that I'm attracted by lease purchase or a cheap lease deal. Buying it isn't a major factor.

Clearly 239 was a one off but where can I get 289 AND with the spec I want? (And incl vat?)

thanks R32UK, however sadly once i add the options i want, 5dr, and add VAT since I am a personal buyer, the quote i got from freedom contracts adds about 100 quid pm:

initial payment: 1,162
mth'ly rental: 387

2 yr deal

fair point that it is still cheaper.  lower deposit up front and cheaper monthly rental.  ok, the final payment if you wish to buy the car is not certain and there are penalties if the contract is cancelled early.

hmmm... certainly food for thought.

another query re: leasing... i was told today by the dealer (so a slight pinch of salt here) that with a lease there is still a residual value figure.  if the car ends up at the end of the lease being worth less than the residual value, then you have to pay that difference at the end!  is this true?

apparantly this is how they get the mth'ly payments low, i.e. bigger residual value at the end in case they get their market value predications wrong.

e.g. if residual value at end of the lease is 13.5k and it turns out the car is only worth 12.5k at the end then the leasee has to pay £1k at the end of the contract...!!

Had a good long chat with the dealer today going through the salesman, finance guy and sales manager. In the end could only get about 2.5% off list (will be entering into a pcp deal)

Back to deal drivers to see what they can really really offer.

I didn't really follow what r32uk is getting - the HP figures were difficult to compute.

r32uk, what discount are you actually getting?

(I'm just feeling smug here because I'm very pleased with what I got.  I know it's hard to compare because I get the scrappage money, but a £4,000 discount on list price including the scrappage has put a smile on my face.)

no, that's not the case, with these lease purchase schemes once you have paid over half the amount payable you can hand the car back without paying a penny.  if you kept the car to the end of the term and it was worth 12.5 from your example but you had 13.5 left on the finance agreement then you would hand the car back and not pay a penny.  i didn't know this until recently, its quite handy to know.  ok you will be left without any deposit on your next car but at least you won't get stung for a payment for a car you're not going to keep.

There are two very similar but different leasing options out there.

One is the PCP I'm sure we're all familiar with where you get to the end and hand it back or buy it of them at the agreed value.  Then you have something which looks much the same but is often called Low Payment scheme which follows the same formula; deposit, monthlys then a baloon payment at the end.  But with this LP scheme I don't think you have the same flexibility when you come to the baloon payment, this figure has to be met by you, either buy buying outright or its worth more as a trade in that the agreed value.  Either way you have to pay - there is no tossing the keys through the letter box option.

Thats my understanding anyway...

Ok lets break it down. The deal I am getting is a lease deal (or contract hire as its known). Very similar to hiring a vehicle over a set period of time. In my case its 2yrs, 3yr deals seem to be the most common at the moment.

So my deal breaks down like this. Its 29 payments in total (6 + 23)

£1434 + vat - which is the deposit.

Followed by 23 monthly payments of £239 + vat.

So including the VAT the total cost of the car over 2 yrs is = £7970.65

Without the VAT which i get back = £6931

So all in all I am paying £288.79 pm (worked out over 24 months) for a brand new GTi, 5dr Manual. Now the car I believe lists at £23k.

There are no fees to pay at the end of the lease. Only cost would be excess milage if you go over 20k over the 2yrs. This would be changed at 0.06p per mile. So £60 for every 1000miles. Not bad I would say.

Road tax is free over the 2yr period. Servicing has to be paid for. Its a good way of working if you want to know exactly what your car is going to cost you over 2yrs.

Got a revised quote from dealdrivers, after adding xenons, ACC and removing the dynaudio and telephone prep.

Total otr is about 24,500 some 9% off list :)

On finance I upped the deposit to 3500 and mthly payment are 395. Not far off leasing (higher initial of course) but the balloon is 11.5k. Now if you tell me that you can buy a 3yr old decent spec gti for 11.5k I'll bite your arm off!! Ie there should be equity left in the pcp, I reckon the gti will be worth about 15k at the end, so recovering the deposit.

Anyway, awaiting the dealer's call to confirm! :)

That really does sound like a good deal.  Are you having to travel far to get it?

I'm getting an OTR price of £22,500, with DSG, ACC, sunroof, metallic paint and a few more trimmings (winter pack, luxury pack and flat tyre indicator), but without leather, 18" wheels or xenons, and just the basic entertainment package.

Comes to £3,950 off list, but of course I've got the scrappage money in there as well.  Your deal sounds as if it's in the same general ball park.

I thought so too!  I grabbed it quick before they changed their minds!  It's from a local dealer to - well, about 25 miles away, so that's not too bad.

It's hard to calculate percentages though, when £2,000 of that reduction on list price is scrappage money.  (Oops, I wasn't quite right, it's a £3,945 reduction in total.)  If you ignore the scrappage entirely, it's still a £1,945 reduction, that is 7.4%.  With the £1,000 part of the scrappage deal that is the dealer's contribution it's 11.1%, and overall the discount is 14.9%.

I'm not sure which figure I should be boasting about!

p.s. i understand a bit better how brokers like dealdrivers are able to get such good prices from dealers... the dealer i spoke to (after having done a quote with deal drivers) was based in the fleet dept. i.e. not the usual guys at the front of the showroom.  i have been reassured tho that everything will be just as if i were a private individual buying from a dealer.

i will report news of my progress as i hear/ experience more.

Thats a great deal.  It definitley helps to keep the spec to a minimum when financing.

I use PCP but have considered PCH due to the lower monthly payments and car tax is paid (worthwhile on an R32!!).

My only concerns with PCH are :

1.  Insurance - Can you still get decent quotes (I pay less than £500 for my R32 on PCP).  DO all insurance companies accept PCH cars as you are not the legal owner I believe, nor are you on the V5 ?

2.  What would happen if you had to give the car back early due to unforeseen circumstances ?  How much would you have to pay in penalties ?

1. Correct. Your not the legal owner of the car, but you are the registered keeper. Some insurance companies wont be interested but if you use a decent broker than you will find quotes for maybe just a little more than what your currently paying.

2. Not too sure about that situation. I would imagine that the finance company depending on what you leased would probably work with you on that one as they always seem willing to listen whenever I have called them previously. Ideally its not a situation you want to be in. Hence the reason I went and got myself a new lease rather than trying to continue my current one.... which will instantly save me £150pm!! not a bad saving for getting myself a brand new car

ave always wondered about these lease hire things, have fully spec'd a scirocco (same platform as the golf) to my wants and all the deals i get are sh!t.

This is including a listed price on the config tool of around 22,500 yet the dealer i wanted to talk to said my car was the deposit, and monthly price was closer to £500 a month.

Can someone provide a more detailed breakdown at all?

Good deals are a b!tch to get now,

Internet : 2 cheapest are Dealdrivers and Broadspeed..

Dealdrivers do not have any more cars available now till after the 1st Sept, and will only accept orders on the price increase from this date. Broadspeed are a little more expensive but wont give you as much of a 'deal' if you want scrappage.

Verdict : Dealdrivers can I disagree, Broadspeed would be my choice, should still get 10% discount from them if no scrappage.

Dealers :

I've never seen any dealer so far match the Internet for prices, some come close, from what I gather top discount seems to be around 7% with an average of around 5%. Then that 5% you were saving will be taken from your hand come 1st Sept, you will from then on be paying full price for the GTI. Then come the extra 2.5% VAT added 31st Dec.

Verdict : For the love of god, buy now !

Kev, from reading back on the forum, you've been talking about getting a car since about April.

For the love of God, have you ordered yet?

I know I said it before, but I got a discount of £1,945 in addition to the £2,000 scrappage deal.  Is that sort of thing not achievable now?  This was less than 2 weeks ago.

April ? Been well before that  So what does that work out as then Rolfe ? Around 8-9% ex scrappage ? As mentioned, around 7% is the highest, if you got 1-2% more ex scrappage then great especially from a dealer. Still achieveable ? Don't know to be honest, but going by the numbers some of the guys have left recently, then it doesnt seem to be and it seems you have had the best deal from a dealer by far.

Ordering tomorrow regardless of what happens. Still waiting on my client coming back from holiday which is tomorrow. Then if he cant do me a deal (which I highly doubt) then its off to the internet I go, but either way it will be done tomorrow.

I already gave the details, but here it is again.

5-door, DSG, ACC, Sunroof, Winter pack, Luxury pack, Flat tyre indicator.

List price £26,445
On the road for £22,500, with scrappage on R-reg Peugeot 306 GTi-6.

Total discount including scrappage £3,945, or 14.9%.
Ignoring the government half of the scrappage deal, £2,945 discount or 11.1%.
Discount over and above the entire scrappage deal, £1,945 or 7.4%.

I'm happy.

Ordering tomorrow regardless of what happens. Still waiting on my client coming back from holiday which is tomorrow. Then if he cant do me a deal (which I highly doubt) then its off to the internet I go, but either way it will be done tomorrow.

You're in or near Glasgow, did you say? Or your client is?  Well, the dealer I got the above from is only about 20 miles from Glasgow.  They responded really well to me waving the then-current DealDrivers price at them, even though I wasn't being pushy about it.  I think if you've got the time, get your specs finalised, then, get your best internet quotes together and go to two or three dealers saying, well, I'm looking for a good deal and this is the sort of price I'm seeing offered.

By the way, Broadspeed offered me nothing on top of the statutory £2,000 scrappage deal, which was worse than the first dealer I went to (£500 extra discount offered).  However, they did offer a discount of £2,227 (8.4%) for the same specs if I didn't take the scrappage deal.  That would have been well worth following up for someone without a scrappage car - or for someone with a scrappage car in better nick and with lower mileage than mine.  (Wasn't worth it for me, obviously, even compared to the first dealer's £500 offer, as to better that I'd have had to realise more than £273 from the Peugeot, which wasn't necessarily a given, especially as it's now about 400 miles overdue for a service it would have needed if it wasn't going to be scrapped.)  I spoke to them on 7th July, so it could still be current.

Yep, I'm in Glasgow.

I've known what I want for a long time now, I have had prices and finance sorted for a while too.

Already done that Rolfe, no dealer I went to would entertain the internet prices, best discount I got was £1000 off the car and nothing off the extra's. Other local dealer told me to talk to my works client as their deal would be nothing like what he can offer me which Is why I waited the extra couple of weeks till he comes back from Holiday.

Which dealer was the one you went to ? I may give them a go if all else fails here. My problem is that when I know a conversation/deal/haggle is not to my liking I just end up walking away as I can't be bothered with them. I am offering them money, they are still making a profit, so why all the foreplay ? Its like meeting a girl/boy you like, you know you'll end up shagging so why all the small talk. I wanna know prices and if it doesnt match what I have in mind then I wont waste my time with it.

http://www.vwdealerships.co.uk/dealers/view.aspx?dl=5740&ty=1 (http://www.vwdealerships.co.uk/dealers/view.aspx?dl=5740&ty=1)

I used to live only two miles from there.  My father bought a second-hand Polo from them some time in the 1980s, which my mother went on driving after he died.  Well-known local firm, used to be Ian Skelly's before metamorphosing into Verve.

I live about 25 miles away now, other side of the Pentlands, but I remembered they were there when I drove past on a trip to Glasgow at the end of June.  I had to go back on 7th July to take my mother to the eye clinic at Wishaw General, so I decided to call in on the way home and see what they could offer.  My main objective was to better the Edinburgh dealer's quote (Western Volkswagen) then go back and beat Western down further using that as leverage.

However, the salesman saw the DealDrivers price that I also had on the notes I'd taken with me.  I was entirely upfront and told him I knew that deal had gone, but said they were going to get back to me with their current best price.  He and another guy went into a huddle and came out with the £22,500 offer.  At that point, I just gave Western a courtesy call to thank them for the test drive and say I'd had a better price from Verve, because there was obviously no chance of an Embro city centre garage coming down that far.

They're easy to get to by road.  Just take the M8 out of Glasgow city centre as far as the Newhouse roundabout (not the one signposted to Newhouse, the next one, called "Newhouse"), and follow the signs for Peebles.  The only tricky bit is the five-way roundabout in Newmains village centre, but keep following Peebles (A721 I think).  Bogside is about two miles beyond that roundabout and the garage is obvious on your left, at a big roundabout.  Be ready to turn left into a concealed side road to access the forecourt.

Worth a try.  Just have your exact specs listed, and the other prices you've been offered or seen online, and see what happens.

I really liked the ACC when I drove the test car.  Some people have mentioned that they noticed no difference but I honestly did. We went along some bumpy country lanes and it felt smooth in the comfort mode, stiff but well able to cope in sport mode, so yeah if you can go for ACC I think you will appreciate it.

I was told by my dealer they'd be in touch when they had any info for me and true to their word they've kept me in the loop all along.

If you give them a ring they can probably have a look on their computer and give you a build week.

All I got was "maybe September".  That was while I was in the showroom, before we started talking turkey.  I got the great offer and accepted it by telephone, and I didn't push him on anything in case the deal somehow evaporated!  I haven't spoken to him since.

He said I had a short period, possibly a couple of weeks, to change my mind on the specification, but after it was in the system, that was it.  I decided I was happy with the specs I'd given him, so I haven't called again.

The first dealer I spoke to said three months, which would actually take us into October, so I'm not really banking on September.  I'd love it to be early September 'cos I've got holiday time booked starting then, and nowhere to go.  With a new car, I'd just pick up a late hotel booking somewhere way up north, and with ACC and dual aircon, maybe I could persuade mother to come.  But I think that's too much to hope for.

rolfe - you should ask for the build week.  that isn't too much to ask for.  that way you know when they'll be building it in the factory and delivery is approx 1 mth after that.

Yes do it I'm pretty sure they will have a certain build date for you and then you can go and start making plans.

Well, nothing about this game seems very certain, given other people's experiences around here.  But it's worth asking.

Mind you, when I ordered the Peugeot in January 1998, they said, maybe Easter.  Then phoned in the second week of February to say, pick it up Friday!  There must have been one in the system close enough to my specs to make it worthwhile just giving it to me (even though it had a CD autochanger I hadn't ordered).  I don't see that bit of luck repeating itself though.

what deals are people getting now? Seem to be in very short supply with all the dealers i've spoken to complaining about their allocations.

I've gone for a high speccer - pretty much only sat nav that i'm not going for-

carbon grey, dsg, leather, xenons, ACC, 510, park assist w/camera, sunroof, lux pack, i was going for 18's, but have changed my mind as i have made a bit of a mess of the 17s on my scooby wrx over the last 4 years.

i got £2100 off, which is 7% off (inc options). I went in with a printout from broadspeed showing 9% - but as i am still waiting for a call back from the broadspeed dealer (3 weeks later) i don't think they have stock.

demos seem to be even worse- a lot seem to be pretty much list price

I think I would of specced 18's if I were honest... The car don't look right on 17's.
Dealers don't have to give discount as they can sell the cars two to three times over at the moment as demand out strips supply...

I have seen Carbon Gray with the 17s and 18s it does not look right to me with the 17s there far too light a silver and im not one of them that says 18s are a must like some others always do.
After speeking to most my local dealers i got similar responce to what you did. Except i was offered nothing off as they said they could sell everyone they could get at or near list and im know for been good at getting deals.

The answer to the questions we need to know is:
WHO has allocation left before September 1st
WHO can deliver before 1 jan 2010
and The most important bit WHO is still willing to give a decent discount?

Well I can tell you for sure just now that no-one in the UK has allocations for the scirocco, and if you want a 1.4 golf its March 2010 as VW cant get parts for their engines. Few other things going on with VW right now, wouldnt be surprised if this is having a knock on effect with the family car version.

Might I sugest Drive the Deal .....ordered mine via them (second time using them), called by dealer next day & hopefully beating both deadlines. Only small discount but if it beats both rises its actually going to be quite a decent saving over the "new" list price
