The MKV wasn't but the game has moved on. Just not good enough i'm afraid... Why would I part with an ED 30 for 30hp less? Even BMW 2.0 diesels have 200bhp these days cmon VW!!!
-
I totally agree with overpriced.
Just look at what the previous last couple years MK5 GTI had, Leather as standard etc, making the new ones price rise in real terms ~£3500!
There asking similar money to what the special edition 30 was iirc and once you start adding things to the mk6 like leather (as the cloth is not as nice looking as the mk5 imo) then it becomes an expensive golf.
Spec it to similar equipment levels to an Audi S3 for example, makes it very close to the S3 in price :undecided:.
I was wanting to add a mk6 GTI to our family as my daily driver and let the otherhalf have our mk5GTI but at these prices i don't think i can justify it to myself nevermind talk the family round.
Im sorry but even with my modest spec levels i would like it would come to ~27K (I guessed at what xenons from week 22 will be) and thats S3 money.
-
Totally agree about it being overpriced. I was looking to purchase a Mk6 as soon as it was available to order. Once I worked out the price I opted for a low mileage 2008 car instead. Saved loads of cash, have a car which i'm very pleased with and with a re-map have all the power i'll ever need. I just could not justify spending £26K plus on what is basically a small hatchback.
-
It's not as good looking as the MKV either. It's a shame that VW stay middle of the road.

In your opinion.
-
In my opinion yes. In my opinion it looks like a cut and shut with a MKIV and V and then Capri exhaust pipes added for good measure.
As for keeping the same wheels as the MKV because the designers liked them. What a cop out! They had a load in storage they could not shift more like.
Then they have made the car cheaper to produce but more expensive to buy? Go figure? They just expect people to buy the GTI at what ever price because it is a GTI.
As they said in EVO Ford and Renualt have moved the game on an VW are not much further on than they where in 2004. Just not as excited about it as I was when the MKV came out. Still looking forward to read about the road tests on UK roads.
-
don't forget how worthless our £ is currently against the Euro hence why the prices are completely to cock
don't understand why they didn't throw the ED30 engine in it :undecided:

...........same here. With Renault & Ford giving more performance it's a shame VW didn't use the edition 30 power.
As for the Monza alloys  :embarassed: have to say i'm not a massive fan(sorry guy's) edition 30 style for me.

Because at this end of the market the K04 is too laggy to get rave reviews.
They will put one in a run-out model (at no extra cost to VW) for an extra couple of thousand pounds, no doubt.
-
Audi had a limited edition A4 2.0 TFSI with re worked inlet and a remap that produced 220BHP they could have used that and not gone with a bigger blower. VW just like to stay safe but then again the Golf GTI has never been the most powerful hot hatch in it's class. Just the best all rounder.
-
For a popular car like the GTI they want to keep the CO2 as low as possible to achieve some sort of Euro average for the company overall.
A compromise, but fully expecting most owners who give a damn to chip up.
Hey presto, low CO2 for the Eurocrats and powerful engines with low road tax for we chippers.
No wonder they dropped the 3.2L R32.
-
Got to agree with the Nosh. Just add £500 to the cost of the car to take into account a remap and you have all the power you need. Still expensive though, I thought they brought forward the MK6 release as it was costing too much to make the MK5s thus the MK6 being cheaper to make yet costing more.
Im getting bored of this recession, when is it due to be finished?

When people starting spending their money again

You mk5 lads are sad, the only reason you dont like the mk6 is because you feel threatened by it, as only a few years ago your cars were the new golfs and now they're gonna plummit in price as the new model has come out. Dont you just love depritiation on newer cars  And yes i own a mk3 an iv heard all the comments before so save it.
I personally dont like the mk6 itself but i think its a grower just like the mk5's were at 1st, as soon as the gti and r32 model comes out with all the trim and smart wheel ect i bet it will look good. but for some reason i really like the new sicirocco, they look soo mean
-

(Although your MK3 actually looks quite nice form the sig)
-
LOL i dont mean to offened mk5 owners, i just say it as it is really, dont know if thats a good or bad point about me :undecided:
Cheers alan, we all love each other really doesnt matter what mark golf youve got
-
Its only because I sort of agree with what your saying, FFS VW, who the hell brings out new models
-
But you can't deny it's overpriced once you stick a few extras on...
-
Yeah, it is expensive, but so was the MK5 when it came out.
-
Well, im hopefully picking my mk5 up tomorrow (at last!) and i can safely say that i've got no regrets whatsoever! Roll on tomorrow!
-
About bloody time, is this the same one that the dealer was messing you about this?

As a MK5 owner I have to agree a bit with what you have said. I think a lot of us will be a bit envious the first time a MK6 Gti pulls up beside us at the traffic lights (even though many won't admit it). It's always nice to have the most up to date computer/TV/mobile phone etc (call it snobbery if you want). Still dissapointed that the ED30 engine/turbo isn't being used. At least I know he won't leave me at the lights. All in all though I'm kind of glad the MK6 is such a huge leap forward as the MK5 was. Think I'll wait for the MK7. But that could be 5 years in which time it may be a people carrier.

lol ! I actually cant wait till I see a MK6 at the lights as I will leave him for dust and he will sitting there thinking "I should have bought a MK5" :D

When i read replys like this it brings back memorys of the mk2 GTI advert with the astra GTE driver sitting next to the calm collected mk2 GTI driver at the light with the GTE driver gripping the steering wanting to race. It does seem there is a large portion of mk5 GTI drivers who think they are astra GTE drivers out there and feel they need to prove something. I see them on a daily bassis and its sad the rep they are giving the true GTI driver.
-
Believe it or not I dont drive everywhere wanting to race people, I find a lot of people seem to have a chip on their sholder with regards to people that own MK5s :undecided:
-
That they're all yuppies with more money than sense?
Or that they're Posers? :lipsrsealed:

I think it was directed towards me

Given the choice, I would personally pick the mk5 over the mk6. mk6 seems over priced, and really doesn't have the aggressive looks the mk5 has. The fogs on the mk6 look  too, really ruin the front.

I agree, if they put them side by side i'd go for the mk5 on the exterior front, mk6 just edges it on the interior though imo.

It looks like you're not a 'true GTi driver'   (whatever that is)

If you meen i have to prove myself and want to race everything on the planet, drive like an idiot like i see just about every Mk5 GTI driver in the north east seems to want too, especially DSG ones in rush hour for some reason. Then no i will no longer class myself as a true GTI driver I am actually becoming ashamed of been associated with the mk5 GTI it seems the c0cks have moved from BMWs to Audis and now to mk5 GTIs.
I have always owned GTIs since the late 80s and currently own 2 mk1's, a Mk2 and a mk5.
It seems the mk5 has attracted the ford+vauxhall+BMW crowd/driver.
Is that directed towards me or to the guy who replied?
It was directed at no one Individual, It was a general reply about alot of what i see on the road and read from Mk5 owners on the net....

You've been watching top gear havent you.
-
I drive like a c0ck whatever car you put me in  figure that one out
-
to say that all Mk5 gti owners drive like c0cks is an amazingly sweeping statement and quite unfair. It's like saying the Mk3 golf is like a boat to drive. Well it isn't is it. Does it float, have a keel and rudder?
All the Mk5 drivers I've seen (mainly down south and some around the chester area) do not behave any different to other drivers on the road. Also take into consideration that top gear is an entertainment programme and anything they say should be classed as entertainment and not factual.
Claiming that all audi drivers are c0cks on national tv does not make it true. I think people should have enough sense not to take clarkson seriously and treat everything he says as a joke or entertainment.
Just my 2p worth.
-
I never said they all drive like c0cks  But quite a few do from seeing them with my own eyes on a daily basis.
We own a mk5 GTI and may own another soon so im not likley to say all now am i?

Its not really fair to say the MK6 Golf GTi is underpowered given that it is more powerful than its predecessor and has lower emissions as well as better fuel economy. It is of course underpowered compared to its competition though, especially at the price it costs to buy. Remember the R20T will come behind it to boost the power stakes though.
It is fair to say its overpriced though. A basic car with no options is £23k. I was at my local VW stealer and they were saying how they would only have one as a demo purely because the price is as high that they dont think it will be a big seller at all, especially with the likes of the facelift Leon Cupra with 240bhp and latterly 265bhp costing a few thousand less. One would have to expect the R20T to be closer to £30k which will carry a premium over even the Focus RS, and therefore pit it directly against its cousin, the S3.

Currently have a mkV GTi Owned from new. Ordered a MkVI GTi as soon as I could. No regrets whatsoever. As to you smoking my MKVI from the lights.... Ide enjoy you trying. As you'll only catch mine standard for about the 1st week as I run it in. Then it'll be straight off for the remap 3" downpipe decat. It also helps I have a good relationship with local dealer. As they seem to turn a blind eye to my "Aftermarket modifcations" when it comes to warrenty work. But you'll find me at most vwaudi meets if any of you use the forum and quite a few trackdays so you can come try
