Underpowered and Overpriced
« on: 29 March 2009, 19:41 »
The MKV wasn't but the game has moved on.  Just not good enough i'm afraid...  Why would I part with an ED 30 for 30hp less?  Even BMW 2.0 diesels have 200bhp these days cmon VW!!!

I totally agree with overpriced.
Just look at what the previous last couple years MK5 GTI had, Leather as standard etc, making the new ones price rise in real terms ~£3500!
There asking similar money to what the special edition 30 was iirc and once you start adding things to the mk6 like leather (as the cloth is not as nice looking as the mk5 imo) then it becomes an expensive golf.
Spec it to similar equipment levels to an Audi S3 for example, makes it very close to the S3 in price :undecided::huh:

I was wanting to add a mk6 GTI to our family as my daily driver and let the otherhalf have our mk5GTI but at these prices i don't think i can justify it to myself nevermind talk the family round.
Im sorry but even with my modest spec levels i would like it would come to ~27K (I guessed at what xenons from week 22 will be) and thats S3 money.

Totally agree about it being overpriced. I was looking to purchase a Mk6 as soon as it was available to order. Once I worked out the price I opted for a low mileage 2008 car instead. Saved loads of cash, have a car which i'm very pleased with and with a re-map have all the power i'll ever need. I just could not justify spending £26K plus on what is basically a small hatchback.

It's not as good looking as the MKV either. It's a shame that VW stay middle of the road.

In your opinion.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

In my opinion yes. In my opinion it looks like a cut and shut with a MKIV and V and then Capri exhaust pipes added for good measure.
As for keeping the same wheels as the MKV because the designers liked them. What a cop out! They had a load in storage they could not shift more like.
Then they have made the car cheaper to produce but more expensive to buy? Go figure? They just expect people to buy the GTI at what ever price because it is a GTI.
As they said in EVO Ford and Renualt have moved the game on an VW are not much further on than they where in 2004. Just not as excited about it as I was when the MKV came out. Still looking forward to read about the road tests on UK roads.

don't forget how worthless our £ is currently against the Euro hence why the prices are completely to cock

don't understand why they didn't throw the ED30 engine in it  :undecided:

...........same here. With Renault & Ford giving more performance it's a shame VW didn't use the edition 30 power.
As for the Monza alloys  :embarassed: have to say i'm not a massive fan(sorry guy's) edition 30 style for me.

Because at this end of the market the K04 is too laggy to get rave reviews.
They will put one in a run-out model (at no extra cost to VW) for an extra couple of thousand pounds, no doubt.
Currently digging a bunker.

Audi had a limited edition A4 2.0 TFSI with re worked inlet and a remap that produced 220BHP they could have used that and not gone with a bigger blower. VW just like to stay safe but then again the Golf GTI has never been the most powerful hot hatch in it's class. Just the best all rounder.
