Title: TIP Fitted - With Pictures (page 2)!
Post by: bobbarley on 14 February 2009, 16:10
I agree with Rich, this is one of the hardest, most annoying things I've ever done!!!

I could NOT for the life of me connect the new pipe to the turbo, with that stupid pipe in the way.  I had to remove those allen key type screws for the coolant pipes, and got coolant EVERYWHERE!!

I got the new TIP on, and put everything back together again.  I can feel a huge difference, when I put my foot down it blasts through the rev's!!  Igf I floor it I get constant wheel spin too.

I don't know if the above is related to my problem though :( - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=106006.0

I've been doing mine today, too.  You're right.............................  That bottom part which slips (yeah, right) over the turbo was a right biatch!!  (Remember my AGU TIP has to go over the bigger KO3-S ).

In the end, I sprayed it with some deodarant so it would slip on more easily (then it would evaporate later, you see ;)).  I'm not sure I 've tightened that bottom jubilee up properly, though, so I'm going to get back under tomorrow.

I took it for a run, & initial thoughts were excellent, though there was a couple of 'flat-spot' moments when I was up at 6k revs.  No fault codes before OR after fitment, though?! :undecided:

I don't know if it's just a placebo thing, but I swear it's more than a small difference it makes!

5% performance, 95% placebo, IMO. A new sense has been awakened, Bob. ;)

You've now got more noise when u bury the throttle. ;)

It will fit on, but I don't think you'll get a tight enough seal with the jubilee clip on that larger TIP, IMO.  I think they'll be too much excess material, TBH.  Personally, I would sell it & buy the AGU one, as if you do upgrade to KO3-S down the line, then you will be able to stretch the AGU one over the new turbo. ;)

I couldn't get that black metal bar in front of the turbo intake to move enough, so I just started undoing EVERYTHING!!   Am I right in saying to add more coolant I just keep adding more into the circular tank?  I've been steadily adding more, as it keeps telling me it's low, even when it's half full!

Just been out in the car again for a small motorway run.  you can hear it sucking air into the turbo now, definitely spools faster, which is NEVER a bad thing!

Ok, couple of pictures!

Car on stands, work ready to start
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y114/bobbarley/golf/TIP/CIMG2915.jpg)

Old TIP, and the airbox, begging to come out
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y114/bobbarley/golf/TIP/CIMG2916.jpg)

Airbox gone
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y114/bobbarley/golf/TIP/CIMG2917.jpg)

All these gubbins need to come out
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y114/bobbarley/golf/TIP/CIMG2918.jpg)

Under the car, you'd need child's hands to get close to the turbo!!  Took me a while to undo the screw
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y114/bobbarley/golf/TIP/CIMG2919.jpg)

Old TIP out
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y114/bobbarley/golf/TIP/CIMG2920.jpg)

Compare them, behold the beauty of the Forge!

I've had easier to sort rubics cubes!!

Big black tube in the way of the turbo, GET OUT OF THE WAY!!

At this point I would have happily ripped the engine out if it would have helped
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y114/bobbarley/golf/TIP/CIMG2924.jpg)

YES!!

Such a bugger to get it all connected in correctly
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y114/bobbarley/golf/TIP/CIMG2926.jpg)

As Ramsey would say, DONE!
