i've been a member for some time now but tend to stay in the background  :evil:

hopefully i'll be taking ownership of a gt tdi 150 soon its a 2003 model with 66k on the clocks

now, i've sifted through the tdi topics and people rate the 130 and 150 quite highly! which is good news! myself like a few others are interested in remaps but after reading several peoples threads one which after a remap may have caused her turbo to blow and another entioning needing a new clutch?

so my questions to you lot are, can the 150 with a remap handle the extra power or is clutch killing a typical result from the extra 'umph'? also the golf i have my eyes firmly on has the usual caravan mahogony fascia panels which i want to yank of and tart up! is there any guides on here are are they a simple clip on/strap on  :tongue:??

Depends how you drive it but yeah the standard clutch is not really up to the remap - too much torque  :cry:

yep sadly not cheap at all

Sachs organic clutch (includes pressure plate & friction plate) - £468
Flywheel - approx £210
Release bearing from dealers - £40
Fitting - anywhere from £100 up

Mine came to approx £900 fitted - not cheap but worth it

Standard clutch can take up to 285lbs ft torque but most remaps will take it beyond this or put it under so much pressure it will give up the ghost sooner or later. 

To prolong the life don't load the engine at low speeds under 2000rpm

mine was standard for about 2 years and then i couldn't resist and got a Custom Code map on the cheap - that lasted all of 10 months before the good man Nick from R-Tech worked his magic - it goes like it should now :afro:
