Big bumper fog wiring
« on: 08 June 2004, 07:39 »
Had the big bumpers and fogs on the car for some time now but not got round to wiring them in.

The car is an 88 16v that came without fogs but Ive noticed what looks like a fog lead on the nearside just behind the foglight (fits onto the back of the fog perfectly), problem is there is no lead the other side?

Do I just split the connections on the lead that is there and wire over to the other lamp? I plugged it in the o/s lamp and tried the button but nothing happended - Is it likely to be connected at the switch end?

Anyone else looked into the wiring of these?

Help!
Mk 11 8v - Bright blue metallic, 5 door.
Passat 20vT wagon on 18's.

just fitted a set to mine, i ran a live and eart from the plug in the corner, down to n/s fog then continued the same wires over to the o/s fog.
The one thing i did do was to fit a relay in the fuse box, for some reason vw didnt put one in, the socket is there and connected. btm left of relay plate/fuse box.
the fogs only work with ya headlights on, not with ya sidelights.
Cant legally be on without dipped headlights.
If you want them on without, you will have to fit a seperate switch and extra wiring and relay.
Most accesory shops etc do complete wiring kits with all the neccasery parts.
Good luck, do it proper an ya wont come a croper ;)
