Coded Radios
« on: 07 June 2004, 15:32 »
After my visit to the scrappy and seeing the piles of car stereos he has there that all have those radio codes on it got me thinking.

Why is it all the crappy ford/rover/whatever stereo's that come in the new cars have these codes you have to enter if you disconnect the battery, but the wicked sweet ?300+ stereos me and you have in our golfs do not?

I mean come on. Do thieves actually want to steal a car's CD player where you can't even fast forward through a track, only skip onto the next one?

Thats a very good point. But most ststems have face offs so I don't believe it to be a problem. I think Blaupunkt are the only one to do the coding aren't they?

Which are the manufactuers ones right? Or do companies like SONY/ALPINE/PIONEER/KENWOOD still do complete units?  I have only seen face off models?

Its actaully a marketing thing....

The cars tend to be aimed at middle / old age people. The fact the stereo has a security feature is a selling point.......

personally i prefer face off radios the new motorised radios have codes as they are not face off.
problem with coded radios is the people who steal radios are usually thick kevs who will probably steal it then throw it away when they find they cant de-code it

My kenwood has the faceoff and code facility built in, but the code is never on, and I hardly take the face off. Just let it rotate round. I take it off if I'm leaving it in a dodgy place though.
