traction control on,4th gear,35mph,gentle acceleration=headbutting the windscreen.

keeps cutting in as soon as i touch the throttle in 3rd or 4th

operates perfectly in 1st and 2nd
no faults found with vagcom or launch x431
tried various tyres,bridgestone's,yoko's.. still the same
we'v even plug'd the laptop in and altered the remap to bring the power down but it still does it,so power went back up as thats not the answer either.

tried everything, tyres, abs sensors, even fitted new drive flanges for new abs rings!!new driveshafts, wheelbearings,no fault codes.i own my own garage and we cant work it out.Anyone got any ideas please..This is my own car

Seems odd for it to not report any faults.. MAF sensor doesn't always throw up a code though, especially if it's an intermittent fault that only shows up when under heavy load. I heard of people using mercedes MAFs in the TDI's, not sure how they got on.. but deffo avoid the cheap copy ebay/gsf ones. VAG all the way.

hi dude,i had been thinking of the airflow sensor, styl the original one on,but have ran live data screens whilst driving but no tal tail signs.i've just been out in it and it was hasitating at around 2800rpm..never done this before but does sort of support poss airflow meter.
which merc is a good donor matee?

not really a diesel man but there's some info here http://www.geocities.com/tech4tdi/ but its not just a 'plug and go' swap.. they're about £20 less than you'd pay for an exchange unit from VW. Try running it with the MAF unplugged to force it to use default mass measurements.. if it still kangaroos in 3rd/4th its probably not the MAF. If it fixes the kangarooing (bare in mind with the maf unplugged you won't be making full power) then pop over to ventura and get an exchange.. bloke on parts desk is the only one I'll talk to in that dealer :lipsrsealed:

A few hours logging data and bypassing parts for trail and error solutions is the only way to go with problems like this.

If you get stuck let me know as we are only down the road from you.

hi guys, just to let you know no boost leaks,un-plugged maf ages ago and it drove it.was slow, but still the traction control was going mad, even when you lift your foot back off the throttle.you either wait for revs to drop back down to 1000rpm or turn it off.it's driving me mad.
im a mobile mechanic,im best mates with james form bhpremaps.com (he owns the mk1 with 2x1.8 20vt,featured in performance vw & maxpower)
all his work is top notch,re-maps perfect.inported original software to try it,and it was worse!!so in whet the modified software again.
i,v been trying all day agen with it,i use trade parts services in aston, genuien vag parts at a quarter of the cost, cheques are even payable to volkswagengroup uk so all parts ever change are genuine.i'v checked all pipes, even tiny vacccum pipes,no air leaks anywhere.
i'm starting to wonder if it could be to do with the diff, could it be starting to fail, but i'v been told by many people the 6sp is bullit proof.no unusal noises anywhere
