need some advice

my mk2 16v gti 1991 has developed the gear box whine in 3rd and second has started to do the sme in 4th.....

and has doen this in the last 3 days of use before that it was perfect!

i jacked it up and looked under it unfortunately i didnt have a 17mm alan key to drain the gear box but i noticed the left drive shaft whilst laying under the car is missin the grean seal which is on the right hand side! is this ok?

ive been told that this whine siginifies a gear box on its way out! how much do reckon this will cost a independent mechanic to sort and anybody got any contacts for good recon boxes at good prices

alrite dude,

as far as the whining sound goes i think that does signify a gearbox on the way out, not an expert but thats wat im thinking it is.
if your quick i noticed that somebody is selling a 16v box on this site for like 40 quid which is a fookin bargain!

quick tho, it mite hav already gone!
