What battery?

I have a 91 16V gti, I need an new battery, current one is old merc one.  Do I need a 45 Amp one?

i got the halfords heavy duty one after getting 2 duff battries from a local auto-electric place.

the new one has never let me down :)

It can be however many amps you want, 45 is the factory fitted one IIRC.

Just get one from somewhere that does a decent lengthy guarantee.

 If you're going to install some meaty ICE then get an optima yellow top/red top, otherwise Bosch silver is a good choice, then the cheaper 3rd party affairs.

i went into halfords and had a look in their battery book and it listed the battery that should be fitted

I just replaced my with a GSF one.  45 Amp.  They are doing them at trade prices.  Got it for £34 instead of the £60 Halfrauds wanted.
