Hey there guys, a friend of mine recomended that i invest in a 3" big bore intake to replace the plastic one on my 89 gti 16v! He didnt really explain why, seen as you guys seem to know everything lol, and i am a relative novice to the world of GTI's, i was hoping someone could explain exactly the benefits and also the drawbacks of doing so!!!!!!!

there would be no benefit, the intake manifold and the throttle body are still the same size.

Sweet pal, so if i replace the intake manifold say to the 50ml one, then it would be worth it??? Or am i wrong?

You are wrong. Stick with the 42mm you have. The pressure waves involved in the induction cycle are all matched up to the engine. Alter one and it then creates a ripple effect.

Previous people have changed to a 50mm intake and it has made them drop power and as a result torque.

So ultimatley i shouldnt invest in the 3" big bore intake as it will have no effect or make any difference??? Am i right in saying that??

It will make a difference. But not a good one. Induction strokes all work on pressure gradients and as a result all the piping around them is set up to get the best that it can from it.
